    Chris, I am getting a permanent colostomy April 17th. I have watched your videos for a few years now. Pelvic radiation and surgery for anal cancer has caused problems that have worsened over time. Your videos are so very helpful! Thanks for all you do!!!😊

    The same bag as I use.Its ok in the shower for me and I havent been swimming in it yet but not likely to but I would still feel ok.I keep mine on two days and it's usually fine but if I eat spicy food it balloons!so easy on the spice.I have had my ileostomy for over two years and not too much has gone wrong.Good luck with your swimming.

    Hi, Thanks for sharing. The adhesive works much better with warmth. I either use the hairdryer or a heat pad for a minute or two after my appliance change. I know that many people use the flange extenders with these bags particularly for showering or swimming. Also, what type of convex is this bag please as coloplast make several depths. It might be useful for others if you showed the code number on the box as well. Best wishes from Kit.

      Hi Kit. Thanks for the comment and I agree a valid point about the product code. The product code is 16510. I will update the text on the video shortly aswell. I have the coloplast extenders, but I find they are bit aggressive on the skin. I normally put the bag in my waist band to heat up whilst I am a changing a bag, that works well to warm them up. But as you say a hairdryer does a good job to! Hope you are keeping well and again thanks for the comment.

    Hi Chris, I have had a colostomy for just over a year and use the concave drainable version of these as I unfortunately have developed a parastomal hernia. I find them ok, but I also find the standard Dansak bags fine as they are very light and soft, especially when wearing a hernia support belt ( not to be confused with the belt you wear) over the top. I totally agree with you about the adhesive on the 2 bags and although I do not have skin problems the Mio leaves my skin looking healthier than the Dansak. Have you tried the Salts Confidence B ? I tried a few samples some months ago and may give them another go.

    • @sydneystoma385
      @sydneystoma385  Před rokem

      Hi Ged. No I haven't tried the salts bag. I agree Dansak bags are good. For ultimate soft feel and good looks the Respond bags I reviewed a while ago are very good.

    I sampled the Sensura Mio flat bag. Very nice and the vent worked. When I have my colostomy I would like to use these. I do hope the vent works on all the bags.

    I’ve had really good luck with these exact pouches for years. The less sticky adhesive is deliberate on Coloplast’s part - they expect frequent pouch changes given that it’s a one-piece, closed pouch. They are meant to be changed daily for most people, but like you, I’ve gone 3 days without needing a change. This adhesive is gentler on the skin. I’ve never needed barrier cream or pastes or rings, which makes my changes super easy and quick. I simply remove the old pouch carefully, clean the area with just water, dry thoroughly, and then stick the new appliance on my skin. I hold my hand over the area for a minute or two, just to let my body heat activate the adhesive, and I’m done. I’ve never had a problem with noisy pouches either, but I do wish the viewing window were just a bit larger. I have an oddly placed os, so I have to double or triple check placement for best fit.
    I’m embarrassed to admit I’ve been using this product for years (I use 16301 because I am short-waisted and the mini fits me better), and I did not know until recently that the filter stickers go on the INSIDE and not the outside.

      They are great bags. But recently my skin has become quite sore so I have changed bags and my skin has improved. I have used the Coloplast ones for ages for no real skin issues. It's funny isn't it that we can be doing something for years and then find out we have been doing something wrong, as you say it makes you feel a little embarrassed. 😃. Thank you for watching.

      Wait…what? The filter stickers go in the inside? Really? Same here 3 years sticking them on the outside. I do this to retain air and reduce pancaking but do remove the sticker if I get too much air. Can’t see how that would be possible if the sticker was inside. Or am I further confused 😂

    On the advice from a Coloplast we converted my wife to the convex style two piece system. It stopped all the leaking issues we had with previous bags systems. we give it a 5 out of 5 for wear-ability and leakage. we have gone from changing bag several times a day to at least 5 days of no leaks. We also started using the half moon elastic adhesive strips. they extend out around the attachment for a more surface area of adhesion.

      Hi Zarmo. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. I am glad the new bags have helped. They are very good bags. I have used many different brands since this video, yet I always come back to the coloplast convex. With the half moon strips yes the do increase the surface area, but just be careful with using them a lot as they are very harsh on the skin.

      @@sydneystoma385 Great, Thanks for the reply. so far so good. We have run out of the sample convex wafers and am waiting on the new order. the present bag system has been on for at least 5-7 days. so we need to change it out. but I do have a sample kit from Holster, maybe it will have some convex wafers in it as well.

      Yes, I like those strips too! As my swelling (new ostomate) is going down, I have some wrinkling along the appliance tape. The barrier rings just add a little more security for me right now.

    Nice Video Sydney!! Could I please ask why you use a CLOSED bag with an Ileostomy? How on earth can you keep a closed bag on for three days? CLOSED bags are SO wasteful if you have a Ileostomy, which emits more or less constant output....and....not good for the skin with the constant removal of the sticky wafer. Closed bags are more relevant for those with a Colostomy. It would drive me mad constantly having to change a bag!! Mine last 4-5 days. Adhesive on the Sensura MIO I would give 1.5 to 2 out of 5. I LOVE the MIO - BUT - leaks every time from the wafer.

    • @sydneystoma385

      I dont have an ileostomy. I have a Colostomy! My output is thick and super slow which is why I can wear a bag for aslong as I do.

      @@sydneystoma385 Thanks Sydney. Lucky you - with a thick, slow output! Mine is thin output, even watery most days, which is a nightmare! Liquid output can quickly seep through a wafer! I do get a few leaks from the MIO baseplate....but I do love the MIO, so I'm persevering. The best NO LEAKS wafer for me is Hollister Ceraplus with Tape Border and Salts XND 1352. Both are only SOFT convex, as my stoma protrudes okay. I have to use a barrier ring also. The Hollister CeraRing is superb. Keep safe end well. Teddy UK xx

    I get a lot of pancaking with this convex bag. I feel that I am pushing stool down constantly to avoid buildup at top of bag. I was considering the two piece system, which has liners available.

    Thank you for your video. My sister just received her colostomy 8 days ago and we have so many questions. She has the retracted stoma and has had many leaks under the wafer. She is going to buy the system you have. Do you have to change the bag out after every bowel movement? Thank you

      IF you get the DRAINABLE bag...NO....you don't have to change the bag after every bowel movement - there's an "opening at the bottom of the bag, so you can just "empty it'.
      If you get the CLOSED bag, you would need to change it after each bowel, movement.
      If you can you the "drainable" bags, they are better for your skin, because you do not have to pull the bag off your skin so often. A good bag systemshouldladt AT LEAST 2-3 days before it needs changing. It's good to use a protective ring under the bag wafer. Either Salts MOULDABLE Seals or Hollister CERA PLUS Rings are the best, even better than Eakin Rings (which USED TO BE good, but are not Now). I get LEAKS from the wafer area on all versions of the Sensura Mio bags. I use TWO different BOMBPROOF bags - NO LEAKS Hope this helps. Email me if you need help. teddyburr@hotmail.co.uk

      @@Teddibere1 I also use the Mio Convex drainable system. I don't use any of the seals the companies sell. I use ''Hypa-Fix' Adhesive non-woven fabric tape (5cm.x10m. or 2in.x11yrds0 A much cheaper and (I like to think) efficient alternative to the pricey Mouldable Seals... . I cut them into 15cm. lengths and adjust them so they fit snug up to the base plate under the belt ties. And I always wear the belt. I've had my stomia for almost 10 years now so I think I know a bit about trials and tests. Please believe me when I say this and I'm not trying to disrespect or say anything bad about what other people use and/or tried. It just works for me and costs about $7.00 a box. Sydney stoma, do the filters on the coloplast bags cause pancaking?

    • @sydneystoma385
      @sydneystoma385  Před měsícem

      It is not really filters that cause pancaking, if you use flat based bags and your stoma is low to the skin, and your output is thick that is what causes pancaking.
