I'd totally buy a Suzuki VanVan...would you?
It was exactly what I was looking for, I'm too small for tall trail bikes
as soon as you said "no technology" I'm sold on it!
For the type of riding you described at the start of the vid, nothings beats a Fantic Caballero Scrambler 500. Such a simple yet competent and FUN bike when off the road! Follows the same philosophy as this this and the van van. Only newer.
@@JuanRodriguez-cn1ek how could a Caballero be newer than a brand new bike?
@@savage22bolt32 haha what i meant by newer was that it has more modernish tech. ABS, hydraulics disc brakes (front and rear), fuel injected etc. Yet they remain similar in philosophy by virtue of their set up/purpose (scramblers/dual purpose). Both Lightweight, throwable, single cylinder, both upright, lacking tcs, slight offroad capabilities etc... fun simple bikes. All scramblers are pretty much. This just has a little more oomph with better braking power.
I’m 5’6” with a 28” inseam. When I got back into riding a few years ago, the TW200 was what I bought. I ride a 1250GS now also, but I still have the TW. I use it as my farm bike. I still love it and I don’t intend to ever get rid of it.
I used this bike in my beginner course and got my license on it. I fell in love with it and so I found one and bought it. Most of my riding and practicing has been off road. My drills are not on level ground. lol! That’s hard to find around here. But I love love my TW.
If you can ride offroad then it makes the switch to pavement really easy, that's how I've always taught others
Stumbled on this channel and I live in SD too so this was by far the most applicable review for this bike! Definitely gonna buy one now.
How I learned was with a stick shift. Took drivers training stick too. The instructor took me all through San Pedro haha. Figured automatic was too easy. Glad you did this review/vid. Much appreciated!
I first saw this bike in Avalon, Santa Catalina Island. The bike totally made sense for the island.
At 6ft-240 lbs. I would look like a trained Bear on that thing! 🤣
Agreed!
Im 6'4 and 200#... this is one of my favorite little bikes.
That's usually the point.
I looked great on my Navi.
@@paradoxworkshop4659 To each their own I guess. 👍
@@RollWithSoul317 I'm probably getting a klr250 this afternoon, one cc per pound of rider...
I've got one I take with me when I go camping. There's plenty of trails to ride and it's a blast. I'm also fortunate to live in the country so it gets a lot of use. When I want to go for a long ride I take one of my Harleys.
Just bought the tdub! Love it! 61 and having fun. Hello from Maple Ridge B.C. Canada 🇨🇦
Great area.
Great little forgiving bikes, I streeted a TTR225 and for just simple putting around and taking on trails and when I sold it the girl learned on dirt trails and used it for getting her license and upgraded to the tw and she's still riding it 20yrs later
instagram.com/motojitsuclub/
I have the bigger brother to the tw200, the xt250. Its fun but i definitely want an upgrade at this point. Bullet proof machines though. Fun in the mountains.
I sold my 15’ WR250R for a 15’ TW200 and have no regrets. I live near the mountains so single track is about 15min away. Installed some RaceTech fork emulators and taller bars. It’s perfect. Only downside is any highway riding is meh. So I recently bought a Buell XB9 for street work. I didn’t know this about myself but I think I have a thing for weird looking motorcycles lol
Both of my adult kids learned on a manual 5 speed Honda CRV. I also just purchased the same bike, same year. I am enjoying it.
It’s what I took my riding credential class on and it’s definitely an easy bike to ride. I did grow up ridding dirt bikes as well though.
Here in the UK I just spent the summer on a 125cc VanVan learning for my full licence. It's been a fucking blast! Can't wait to pass in March (hopefully!!) and ride something quicker 🤣
Simple, reliable, and fun. Don't see myself ever selling mine.
It's a fantastic bike for anyone. I've been riding a long long time and I also have a Suzuki DR650 but I really love my little TW200 as well. You won't ever outgrow this bike because there is no other bike like it, once you have one you have one of the only ones. For a small CC bike it can be made to do lots and lots of things. It's it a highway bike? No it isn't, it doesn't have the power for that, but for anything else you want to do it's a very versatile machine to do it with. Great bike, totally recommend it.
Cute. A shop near me has had one of these for some months, surprisingly. I would have gotten one 9 months ago when no one had one, but I'm ready for a step up from my 125cc engines at this point and this is just not enough of a step, so I've been looking at 300s dual sports for my next. The Vanvan is cute though! I love its styling. Too bad no one makes one like it with a 300 - 400cc engine. I am still waiting for the makers to realize the market needs one.
I will never sell mine but get asked if I will almost every time I take it anywhere. There is a huge aftermarket for t-dubs, even performance parts. Awesome machine.
Miles of smiles since 1987!
Gonna get one or two for my two kids. Need to build the workshop first. We just moved to the mountains 😀
These bikes/dual sports in general imo are the best beginner bikes. They’re light, forgiving, quite durable, and easy to work on. 🏍️👌
These bikes have insane resell value, that will tell you alot about them. Its a bike that youll never sell.
I learned on the Tu250 at the MSF love these bikes
here in the UK nearly all cars are manual gears, few more semi auto's etc coming in nowadays but they are pretty rare
One of my favorite all-time bikes, especially if people are short and have problems reaching the ground, though that front tire is kind of ridiculous, but with a new front tire and some bar risers and a couple upgrades it’s a pretty awesome bike, it’s kind of lake a great farm bike or just something super easy to go mess around on.
The van van is cool but it’s not gonna last like a TW and it’s gonna be hard to get parts and there’s gonna be almost snow aftermarket. The only advantage is the seat is super comfortable and it’s got fuel injection, but the van van isn’t really built all that tough. Still pretty cool and if you’re not gonna abuse, it off-road and just keep it to mild trails and gravel roads it would be cool, but you gotta be careful with it.

I was thinking long and hard about buying one when I was getting back into riding after 25 years... ended up getting the 2015 Honda CRF250L with 19k miles and some upgrades and I'm glad I did. Having the fuel injection for when you inevitably drop the bike on the dirt trails is a godsend... flooded carbs suck to restart.
The stick shift thing made me laugh when I saw it happen in real life. Getting my windows tinted when the guy went to pull it into the garage he had to run and get someone else because he didn’t know how to do it
I don't think the VanVan is an "upgrade", especially since Suzuki ended its North American import run at the end of 2019. It has EFI, yes, but that is not without cons. A TW200 carb that is jetted and tuned properly to elevation will fire up just as easy without help from the enrichment circuit (not a "choke"). They are just set up lean as hell to appease the EPA.
Yamaha took parts from 3 different bikes to make this.. the old xt200 engine the old big wheel tires and the headlight from the xt350 and it major hit.. best selling bike right now
I hope all is well
For you during the storms/rain that news is reporting here in Australia. 👍
I had a GF who started on a T-dub. Absolutely the BEST beginner bike ever! They're even fun for an experienced rider. They do snow and sand like it's dry pavement.
In Montenegro (and most of Europe I know) you have to learn and take tests on manual car. Most people drive manual cars aslo. I can see how horrible it would be to sit on a bike without knowing how clutch works.
I am about to buy my first bike, what would you recommend as the best bike to learn on ? The one in this video and which others
did my motorcycle training in this, so fun
Thanks for the review
I'ma just say a ford ranger is a excellent first car regardless of manual or Automatic Haha. Who doesn't love a small pickup
An 84 model was my first vehicle. 👍
Hey Greg any chance for you to try a Duke 890R and give us your thoughts on it?
It's probably about the same as my Honda FTR 223. My first bike!
4999 plus fees. Wow. That’s a lot of paper for such a simple bike.
Shits gonna last decades with no problems. It’s easy to ride. And it’s a dual sport. They keep value for years aswell. Expensive but def solid
Well when even a small lunch is 15 bucks and it costs 100 dollars to fill your vehicle, 5 grand doesnt go very far these days
I learned how to ride on this bike when I was 10. Im now 45 lol. Bike looks EXACTLY the same. It has to be the longest running production vehicle of any kind without any major changes,

Can you test a BMW R1250RT and compare it to your GS?
Hey man, if it has two wheels & a motor, count me in! Brakes optional.
Name checks out
Have you ever done a video on the CB500X? Thanks in advance.
Brakes don’t work.
Where can I buy it now??
The headlight reminds me of the DRZ 400.
I was thinking about this as my first or to do it for the Great Divide.
one of my favorite bikes
This bike looks so funny, weirdly nice, it’s like a wooden bike with golden tyres
I wish they still made this for the european market... Instead a used one from 1994 is about 2500 euros where I live
Your are absolutely right about kids learning to drive on a stick shift.
👍🏼
Ok I am a guy who lives in the mountains has lots of dirt roads and some 55 mph roads in my area. I have been debating the TW or the Honda CRF300L whats your thoughts?
Depends on your size and how often you go above 50mph
For apocaIipse the best bike in the world. sold mine long time ago and i still miss it 😢
@ Silence-Violence The Honda Rebel 300 or 500 are excellent choices and very easy on the wallet! I currently own the Honda Rebel CMX1100 and I love it!

It is so pretty. Especially in that colour. I wish it was buyable or even importable in Norway,

@@MotoJitsu I do not understand, sorry.
I don't have instagram.
You didn’t ask a question
1 gallon tank with 100mpg? Nope.
Brakes don't work? Nope.
VanVan is a step up? Nope.
Top speed of 50mph for a short time? Nope.
It's a great bike to learn on? Riding and maintenance. Yep.
It's so much fricking fun? Yep.
Nice 1 i have CFmoto 650 NK 👍it s good.
Suzuki doesn't make the Van Van anymore so if you seen one and want it buy it now but the TW200 sells way more often than the Van Van does from what I've seen you Californians are into the Van Van more than anyone.

Hey motobasedgodjitsu what’s the oldest bike you own and would you ever buy a cool vintage iconic bike from the 90s? Like gpzs or gxrs or hurricanes or cbr1000
Blackbird
@@MotoJitsu dam mango that’s nuts. Would you make a video on you just riding it and enjoying it along with the classic immense educational video on riding
Nice tiny bike. So what bike as a bike, not a beginner rider, what would be a good beginner bike for riding on a Los Angeles area freeway…..ideally no smaller than a?
Rebel 500
I would say 400cc as minimum.
Thats one of those neat bikes that I would never ride.
It’s so bad now, that new semis come with automatic transmissions standard, manual trans is thousands extra. ( I’ve heard $20K extra ! )
instagram.com/motojitsuclub/
Where are you from in WI? I'm from Eau Claire!
Kenosha
These bikes are purposed built for utility, not much use for regular use in US roads, its fun to toot around, but around town, it is too slow.
Letting off the throttle is the only brake you need on that baby!
Why do you have a green dot on your right mirror ?
No idea
His mirror does not have a green dot.
THAT is not his mirror.
😏
I didn’t know you grew up in Wisconsin. What city? I’m near Eau Claire.
Kenosha
@@MotoJitsu awesome! Wisconsin is a nice state and I like the country. Thank you for the videos and ride safe!!
🧀 👍🏼
I've got an SV650 for mine, any tips?
Yes, 1,000+ videos of tips, for free on here.
Upgrade the suspension and brakes... Probably... maybe....
They are never in stock in Alaska. Rip.
Beat you in reverse? 😂😂😂 But thanks that's my kind of bike.
looks at home in 1980, but fun
If the damn brakes don't work you can't stop the bike. I mean come on. Yamaha ain't gonna sale a brand-new bike that the brakes don't work.
Surprisingly that bike don’t know the difference between one or two riders
Do you own a manual car?
Do I? No
Glorified tote-goat.
Max speed?
not sure

I ended up today buying a honda 300 enduro as that Suzuki is no good on the highway
The vanvan is not “a step up” 😂 look up “tw200 vs vanvan off road” and watch the van van fail miserably trying to keep up with thr TDUB200
The KTM probably is not as reliable and I know parts for them are ridiculous in price
instagram.com/motojitsuclub/
2024 or 1984.
I get it but seriously these things need to stop being made new. They are insanely overpriced for the tech and no one wants one new but you barely have a choice. But the market is seriously lacking anything reasonable for a small cc semi road legal dual sport. This and the XR150L need to go away. They have great 125cc modern engines and parts bin parts and chassis which can easily be put onto a different bike with other parts.
If one of the big companies can make a reasonable modern version of these it'll sell. Everything is already there, just need to switch production.
The price on that thing is ridiculous and it has a carb 🤦🏻♂️
It's embarrassing that Yamaha still sells this antique with a carb and rear drum brake! It's worse that buyers still pay over $5,000 for this dinosaur. I've got a 20-year old Ford Taurus that I'll sell you for ONLY $19,999. Or a rotary phone or a set of rabbit ears for your black and white TV...
It's brand new, and what is actually wrong with it? Carburetors work don't they?
The 68 mustang from Bullet sold for for $3.7 million. It doesn't even have disc brakes.
I think drum brakes should be sufficient on a small bike. Also, they are less likely to become dirty if you ride over mud. They do have advantages for some types of use.
I laugh when I see the T Dub also...if Yamaha made a 350cc version, that would be so much fun!
Where is this at? Down south? I'm in Fresno the closest course I found is Visalia 🫤
I tagged the dealership and it's right at the top
