Did you know that someone landed on the helipad on top of the beautiful Burj Al Arab?
Yes, Polish RedBull pilot Luke Czepiela landed his modified Cub on the shortest possible runway of only 27 meters.
To make the feat possible he and a team of CubCrafters engineers along with renowned American aviation engineer and aircraft builder Mike Patey made a number of modifications to the aircraft, reducing the total weight to only 425 kilograms and moving the main fuel tank to the rear of the plane to allow for more aggressive braking. He practice the short landing multiple times before until he got it right and was then ready for the attempt to land on the Burj Al Arab!
Once he was up the second challenge was getting the plane of the helipad. The engineers added a nitrous system to enhance the power of the little cub, in order for it to take-off again.
Congrats Luke, that was hell of a landing and take-off!
Now you know! Like and follow for more aviation facts every day.
I hope you enjoyed this video and learned a little aviation fact for today! More to come tomorrow!
Wishing you all the best!

That takeoff had to be one hell of a ride
Missed the opportunity to call it a "Heli of a landing"
A collective groan. 🤣👍
That helipad is a challenge with a rotor craft! Landing an airplane on that is absolutely amazing! A feat very few could do... Of course pulled off perfectly by a fellow Polish pilot.
You should check out the STOL contest. They compete to have the shortest takeoff and landing, the world record being less than 10 feet

I saw one by a river bank, I don't think the tundra wheel made a whole revolution, and he was off.
But landing on land is a lot safer, lot margin for unexpected wind change, etc. Even crash at low spead would be fairly safe. Luke couldn't allow for those things to happen at all. That's something completely different.
Yeah but landing on top a of a building is completely different
@@ChristophShyperfair enough also these stol guys rip everything off the aircraft and take like two gallons of fuel. This guy couldn’t afford to do that because he had an airport to get back to.
I saw it on TikTok it’s absolutely insane 😮😮😮
That takeoff must be a hell of a takeoff
Anyways, congrats to those engineers and the pilot for pulling that off, that deserves a world record
Amazing achievement! Captain Joe, would you be so kind to make a video about ETOPS certification and what's your opinion on having more twin engine jets going through direct route over remote areas, such as polar routes? Are we compromising safety to save costs? Thanks :)
Also restock the remove before flight key chains by CJ. Thanks
Disk crafts can be designed for table top helipads and air strips. Also Versatile flex wings mounted with tiltable engines an alternate option. Ask me how for commercial designs.
This method of landing is ok just for adventure but not for commercial and emergency and routine operations lije hotels and hospitals. If disk crafts are well designed tourism also can be opened up. Pickup and drop delivery etc.😊 Obviously I appreciate this pilot for attempting on this. Nevertheless easy and safe operation is most important.
Just want to say that this is very common to see in GTA everyday 🤣
Wao, thats makes me smile, Thank a lot Capi.
WOW!!!!! Thankyou for explaining captain.
I can learn so much of this
That was awesome. How did they come up with that idea? I'm glad it worked out well.
"Gutsiest move I ever saw, Mav." -Hollywood
I've seen a few stol contests but not this trick! Pretty cool!
I learned this first from my Daily Dose of Internet 😂
Just incredible achievement. WOW..👌👍👋👋👋👋
Here is the link to Mike Patey's video of the event: czcams.com/video/tXmGoQi670c/video.html
When I flew back in the Lake Powell area, I asked a pilot friend if he could land his Cessna 262 on top of Tower Butte (approximately 700 feet). He, of course, said "yes, but no room for take-off, so let's not do that."
Fast and Furious: NoS to overtake!
Red Bull: B*tch please.
If headwinds fast enough, you can land with negative velocity.
That is INSANE!!!!
Awesome things to see this short landing and take off 🔥🔥🔥🥳🥳🥳❤️❤️❤️
That is so cool!
I once saw a STOL aircraft taking off next to me. We couldn't believe what we saw, thing thing lifting off after only a few metres. Just unbelievable.
Helicopter is an aircraft too. What's impressive here is that he had landed an airplane.
Fantastic!!
You're a legend
POLSKA GUROM🇵🇱🇵🇱
The promise of the video was "I would like to go to that helipad" where they routinely take people island hopping.
You can do this as a challenge in msfs
Landing was so close to the edge, imagine he missed that

Amazing! 😍😍😍
Love that stunt!
Sir, I have a broken hand but I can do anything. Can I be a commercial pilot after doing the pilot course? Kindly inform me about.🙏🙏
Just like the simulations in Bad Piggies.
POLSKA GUROM! 🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱
Thats insane!
Impressive landing and starting, not to speak about the engineering...maybe someday useful in aircraft design
that is some quality GTA-V Stuff right here :D
Thumbnail photo is quite the light skin stare
Nice!!!!!
impressed by your pronunciation of "Burj Al-Arab"
Bro playing gta5 in real life
What amazes me is that he was not landing on a two dimensional surface, such as the Earth's surface. But , he could also crash into the edge of it.
Mike is an aviation genuise
Just after I watched the video in the sim game lol
Impressive to say the least!
Interesting
Takeoff would be easier I'd think. As long as he can lift off, even below stall speed, he can dive down (it looks like he did that anyway) to gain airspeed and recover the stall before hitting the ground
Landing is important on table top helipads and air strips. As he said moving the fuel tank to rear and adding power substance to fuel can help better lift off.
Control is important... Happy landings again 😊
That definitely didn't look like "nitrous"
The thumbnail looks like a soldier of SS
Pov u saw da supercar Blondie vid
Certainly one for the books. I remember a 737 pilot from a LOT flight who might just have given him a run for his money. 🤣👍
BRAKING
WOW!
Bad Ass!!
It is not Burj Al Arab. it's Jumera Hotel, Dubai UAE.
Ohhhh que Lindooo
Yup! I've done it before, but in GTA 5 😂 Anyways, that's an awesome achievement. 👏
that was a heli of a landing 😆
😳 Wow 🎉

Dude they put nitros in a plane 😂 That's so bada**
ofc it was a cub lmao
Zenith STOL landing and take off?
One should be really brave to do that
My dad taught me at a young age, "There is a very thin line between bravery and stupidity." I believe the pilot featured in this video crossed that line.
🎉🎉🎉
Ich glaube die alte PZL-106 könnte das auch ...
Ich habe sie mal live erleben können und war erstaunt wie unfassbar langsam sie fliegen kann.
It would have been a nice touch if he had used the Polish PZL-104 Wilga.
Good Job by the Pilot. But the Fieseler Storch was able to land and start on a 5 Mark coin. 🙂 With strong head winds it could even land backwards. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fieseler_Fi_156_Storch
Who else if not the Pole🤷🏼♂️🫡
FIRST OFFICER JOE
With enough Headwind, i guess. I'm pretty sure, they didn't talk about that. There's the difference between air speed and ground speed. I am no pilot, but i do have a basic understanding of physics.
In the red bull video they said how there was basically no wind. A headwind would’ve helped a lot but that makes this act more impressive
Mike Patey said they got the required 7 kt for just a minute, allowing the landing.
Interesting, I watched Make's video czcams.com/video/_xac5Qhxd4k/video.html yesterday about the prep for this landing :)
MSFS IRL
Braking not breaking dude.
マイクロソフトフライトシミュ―レーターならお手の物。
meh, that's piece of cake. do it with A380
Polska Gurom!
Dear Captain Joe, the Fieseler Fi 156 Storch could land within 30 meters and took off in 80 meters without any modifications, apparently also land on the spot or even backwards with the right headwinds, is it possible?
Yes, it's the airspeed that counts. There are many videos of small airplanes taking of with their engines shut down and without a pilot inside due to strong winds.
I thought I would share this bush pilot competition in Valdez Alaska 2022 for short landings and take offs.
Many of these pilots would have little difficulty landing and taking off from that pad.
Not putting this pilot down, kudos to him nice job.
People might find this fun to watch as well. czcams.com/video/qzfBet8ggAQ/video.html 🙂
I've seen someone land and take off from the Lawrence Hargreaves memorial in a hang glider. About half a square metre.
And I've seen film of the same guy land and take off from a radio mast.
I noticed that Lukasz's ( the pilot) face is used in XPlane, in RedBull airplane ( Extra 330).
Another interesting achievement under Red Bull wings : a Polish guy performed skiing from K2. He had to climb there first....and when he was going down the climbers ascending the summit could not believe what they just saw.

I'm sure there have been some stupid stunts in aviation over the years, but I can't decide if this one or or that of Trevor Jacob is the most stupid.
Me who would pick a vtol aircraft
Only 27m? STOL Competition record is somewhat under 10 feet (3,3m), right?
read clearly he wrote" shortest RUNWAY not shortest LANDING.
Short landing contests are fun stuff to watch, if I remember well the shortest landing is only few meters!
Not even close to shortest landing. It’s a sport. Alaskan bush pilots in the sport land in basically a meter or less.
Impressive. But not as impressive as a Falcon9 landing. Falcon 9s move less than a meter after touchdown
bro what it is very impresive for a human to do that , also the falcon 9 is landed by computers
Well those are true VTOL craft!
O MY PEOPLE YOUR GOD IS ONLY ONE GOD!!!
