    One of the best-selling pedals of all time gets the Waza Craft makeover.
    Introduced in 1978 among the earliest models in the Boss compact series, the DS-1 redefined the sound of distortion and remains as influential today as ever. Its hard-edged attack and smooth sustain have made it the best-selling compact effect, with over 1.5 million units sold to date. The iconic orange stomp is behind the signature sounds of a long list of rock, alternative, and fusion legends, and its aggressive tone can be heard on countless famous tracks. Filled with artful Waza Craft refinements, the DS-1W expands the DS-1 experience for a broader range of styles and applications.
    Standard mode on the DS-1W delivers the authentic sound of the original in every way. Its innovative two-stage gain circuit is a critical part of the fullness and definition that so many guitarists love about the DS-1. The versatile tone control affects low and high frequencies, simultaneously boosting and cutting each end of the frequency spectrum as the knob is turned. This allows players to dial in the sound for any application, from sharp rhythms and searing solos to maintaining low-end clarity when boosting amps and other drive pedals.

    DS-1’s have the greatest practicality of being a treble booster on dark muddy sounding rigs. And if you’re too brash, turning back the tone knob on the guitar really sweetens the tone.

    I like that the brashness when the tone is at 12 o'clock has an element of a bratty old octave fuzz. The brightness is easily tamed, but likely works well with a darker clean tone and goes nicely with the LP. I've not used a DS1, but I would hazard a guess that it would stack quite well and would slice through a band mix. A dark boost before it could enhance the fuzz like quality it has when goosed into higher gain settings.

    The more I hear the Waza DS-1's tone, the more I appreciate pedals like the Wampler Pinnacle 😂 The DS-1 just lacks something, and it has a very digital and thin fizzy quality to it

    • @127ibenedict
      @127ibenedict Před rokem +7

      The biggest mistake I see with people reviewing the DS-1 is playing it through the clean channel of fender style amps. This pedal sounds amazing if you throw it through an amp that's already kind of broken up. When they first released it, most working musicians playing rock music were playing Marshalls with the gain dimed out. You throw this pedal on top of that with the gain lowered down and the volume low enough to not hiss, and this pedal rules. I think it's just kind of assumed that you should use it on a clean amp because our idea of distortion now is using a clean amp with a pedal. This really was just a heavier overdrive from it's time.

      @DMSProduktions Před rokem +2

      It lacks TONE! LOL!

    • @justinguitarcia
      @justinguitarcia Před rokem +2

      It can get fizzy for sure but its an all analog pedal. Most pedals with a fizzy top end do best into overdriven amps, that way they blend with the tube preamp

    • @3rdStoreyChemist
      @3rdStoreyChemist Před rokem +1

      Stop using terms that only exist in ‘purist’ echo chambers. A DS1 doesn’t sound digital as there’s no conversion to create aliasing artefacts if it’s low quality.
      It’s ‘thin’ because it isn’t meant for deluxe reverbs set to 2, it likes a loud mid-forward British amp. Some of its most famous users are well known for maxing out the mids on their amps.
      But it’s not boutique and doesn’t have a waiting list, so just throw all the generic derogatory terms at it just so others on TGP who have no clue about audio think you’re cool.

      @@divebomb99 Yeah. Its just been so long. They finally did the HM-2 but I would argue that the FZ-2 was more in demand. I'm sure once the video got out about the behringer being the best selling its next on deck. But stills seems stupid. I have an original and the clone so I won't be buying the waza. I think they may have lost out on some sales by now.
