Not a green screen in sight, the way god intended.
Nope, just a lot of masks for the scared sheep.
This made me very happy. It felt gritty - and real, and visceral
They used it in a few scenes such as some boat scenes and obviosly the Valhalla scene. That's how you do it. Only using it when it's impossible or veryyy difficult to do it practically. Best movie of the year along with The Batman!!
movie has more CG than expected tho. the good kind of course
Which makes me wonder: How did they shot the vulcano scene.
According to the crew, the research for building the sets was so extensive that they could be kept as open air museums.
where was this filmed?
I think a lot of it was filmed in Iceland
Ireland is the film location
@@222MovieMan principle photography was done around Ireland, then a week's worth of footage was shot in Iceland though it was mostly landscape/aerial shots done. I'd many friends work on it
@Kašpar Johan it's Kievan Rus, so the setting was probably in modern day Ukraine
Between the time Skarsgard was fitted for his costume and filming, his shoulders and arms got ripped. Incredible.
Haven't seen a before or after picture of his physique from before the movie was made and during. But these guys get personal trainers to help them and some actors even get on gear. I don't know if Skarsgård did this or not but some do.
@@222MovieMan Whatever was done, it worked.
@@jimmerhardy heplayed tarzan aswell or was that his brother?
@CCP Tube There's a behind the scenes vid. Being fitted for a costume, his shoulders were not ripped. A lot of pre-filming work was done. Impressive.
@@222MovieMan His brothers don't resemble him. It was Alexander. I mean I guess Bill does a little but he doesn't have his physique.
Nothing like location shooting. You can tell the majority of the shots in this film were real. Stunning photography.
This movie was banger. Literally lol. Lots of drums. The score was my favorite part about it. That Valkyrie scene is a visual and auditory orgasm.
The music almost never ceases the entire film through and just adds to how semi-nightmarish the whole thing is, just amazing
I got teary at the Valkyrie scene the music the visuals just amazing
💯 I love that scene too..and the music storm at sea ❤️🥲
14:48 seeing the kid actors having a good time makes me feel better after watching that scene lol
Can’t explain how much I enjoyed this film! Eggers and Skarsgard did an amazing job (as did everyone else bringing this story alive) such a great experience in the cinema.
How sweet is alexander to ask anya 8:24 if she's ok! They lived the real film with the atmosphere and it's brilliant
Imagine being a kid as an extra in this movie, nothing will ever top that!
unless you were the kid that got burned in the building in the beginning of the movie
Some of those days filming would have been brutal. Cold Irish weather. Cold Irish Sea. Fair play to all the actors and extras.
North Sea Arctic currents? I was in Amsterdam(April-1980)and it was freezing wet/clammy every day!
Dieppe + LeHavre were miserably COLD!!!
Just saw this movie a couple of hours ago. It's amazing. Best movie of 2022 so far
Better then the Batman?
@@arnoreli1863 I think that depends on what kinda movies you're into. This movie definitely won't be for everyone but I loved it. I also loved The Batman, which I saw in theaters and I rewatched as soon as it dropped on hbo max
@@lucasrosendal3420 well the thing is im a huge batman fan so obviously i loved the batman but im also icelandic and thats one of the reasons i cant wait to see the northman but i will also most likely be super criticall of historical accuracy lol
@@arnoreli1863 it's probably the most historically accurate viking movie out there. Robert Eggers has mentioned multiple times that he cared a lot about the historical accuracy
@@lucasrosendal3420 that makes me happy i have heard a lot of good things things so im excited
Alexander Skarsgård is such a treasure and an underrated actor, he deserves the UNIVERSE!
First time to see a movie in the theater in two and a half years. Glad I choose one worth the money. Great fucking film.
if Robert Eggers is behind it then you know its gonna be fuckin great
Exactly my reaction. I was like, “This is the same guy who directed The Lighthouse, so this is gonna be great.”
@@nocturnal7345 Who else is STOKED for Nosferatu ?? :D
The use of natural lighting was superb
He was born to play this role
I'd love to see him play Beowulf but he's ALMOST too old now!
@@ArtByEmilyHare lol nahhh he's perfect
@@stephanierampart1099 I only mean that he couldn’t play 20 yr old Beowulf vs Grendel but he’s the only actor who would fit the part that I can think of today! My favourite folktale and just wish someone would make a good epic movie from it!
@@ArtByEmilyHare have you read the Seamus Heaney translation? It’s definitely my favorite.
@@joymallory3405 I have but it’s not my favourite, I love the Strafford Riggs one, especially the audiobook version as the guy who reads it is brilliant!
The writers: How much blood and violence do you want in the script?
Movie director: YES, ALL OF IT!
No CGI.. perfect...
Well did you see all the blood and guts there is a lot of cgi mixed with prosthetics
The blood wasn't CGI
@@Spartan-oj9dc That wasn't cgi blood
@Anderson Mendoza Alot what? There wasn't alot of cgi
@@el34glo59 you're right saw the movie it's definitely not cgi blood , damn this movie is brutal but it's very good
Takes me right back to being immersed in those incredible vistas as they were unfolding on the big screen a couple of days ago. Looks like I'm going back for a second viewing.
Movie looks amazing
You looks amazing, I love you earl
I can’t wait to watch it! ☺️☺️
It is.
This movie is worth watching 100%
4:45 willem dafoe ladies and gents, give this man an Oscar already
One of my favorite actors!
The Northman is a fantastic movie. We loved it. Is not 100% perfect, but photography and cinematography are top-notch! And for this reason, we think it has the potential to target some Oscars. What do you think? :)
So enjoyable watching the process of on site filming.
A cuanta gente le da oportunidades y trabajo una super producción como esta MAGNIFICA
Just watched this movie, now this video made me feel like I was on set with all of you guys, thank you so much for such an experience
This movie was INSANE🔥
it is nice to be genuinely intersted in seeing a film.
Got the cinematography was amazing I like how they literally went to some locations to make it feel like we're really there
I love how Alex check up on Anya at 8:22
I’m hyped for this movie
13:18
Such a wholesome Viking. And they say that they were rude.
What a bunch of incredibly talented people❤️
Just seen it, visually beautiful
Great job making this movie! one of the best I have seen lately.
Wow how cool is this! Thansk for sharing.
this is gold! thanks for sharing!
amazing how they light the scene
It's gonna be a blast!
I watched this movie last week. I LOVED IT.
Such beautiful cinematography!
Just watched the movie few days ago as we are in 2024... Well, this type of project is the reason why we call the cinema an art.
Masterpiece
I had a great time seeing this movie. I was so excited for it, and I loved seeing it. I’m honestly really looking forward to watching it alone when it comes out so I can absorb more of it.
Been thinking I need to see it again by myself! Would definitely get even more out of it emotionally.
great viking movie ever made
Check out the Russian movie,"viking"
I have to agree. This one of the best experiences in a movie theater I've ever had. Yggdrasil...the tree of kings...that part was amazing...the valkyrie...the draugr....everything was perfect and beautiful and i loved how he made it seem like it could have happened merely in amleths mind...
12:51 Viking wearing a mask hit me hard😂
This is realistc as fuck
Eggers is in love with the crane shot!
What's the crane shot??
Its being a while since I have not seen such a good movie, very well made, very immersive, no green screen. very very good!
What a great movie, just arrived from the movie theater.
I'm surprised the Draug wasn't created using any cgi, that's impressive since the vast majority of film makers would have done so.
This movie is incredible
Think they should remake Beowulf same director and Alex with Anya in it too as film has a Beowulf poetry story about it .
this made me so anxious.... all i wanted was to see more then ten second snippets
Film making is tedious work, still don't know how actors manage to stop looking directly at a camera when this huge machine is put before your face
💗💗💗 love this videos
I’ve been telling everyone who will listen about this movie, will be seeing it again with a friend sometime soon
Beautiful❤
best film
I want to see Alex Skarsgaard versus Travis Fimmel in a viking fight
Poor Travis
@@hectorvegasduque2234 I dunno, Ragnar is quicker and craftier
Yes i have considered the fact that he is a berserker, and drinks mushroom tonics to get fired up before each battle, drinks blood, berserkers are unstable, amleth would probably win but it would be a hell of a battle
A berserkr versus a king.
COOOOOOL!!!!
Fellowship of the Ring vibes here.
True. Many years we didn’t see something close to that.
@@RayoSombrio78 Yes, true love for old school filmaking.
MI PAPACITO ALEXANDER 😍😍😘😘😘😘
Locations are EPIC!
C'est impressionnant de voir le making of d'un film aussi ambitieux !
It was made with real celluloid film.
Thats why the great look.
La Vi y es muy buena la película
19:22 That's so cool!
I jus finished watching tis movie.
Nicole kidman,my favourite actress.
It's a spectacular movie.
Dig this content. My biggest interest in film is set design.
Belleza de película
Thank you for the video! For the future - the black screens in-between are too long...
Look for see this movie💗
I can almost hear the director screaming “more dirt! More blood!”
Robert Eggers is my favorite director. It used to be Tarantino. That’s saying so much.
Oscar nom for Skarsgaard pls
cooooool
Take me you big sexy viking! 🤭 whoo-chile his (Alexander) body has me in my feelings.
L will like to work with these crew. Wish You luck on the next set.
0:00 Bifrost 🙂
The first time I watched the movie I didnt realy like it. But i watched it again 1 month later and it was amazing! Cant belive I didnt like it at first
Where do y’all get this footage???
sad this filmed bombed at box-office. this is a great epic film
Does anyone know what they are and what these black cloths behind the cameraman at 17:13 are for?
The constant 2-second black screen after every shot is killing me.
17:35 🙌
13:15 - the Lawful Good Ending
Movie 🎬👍
21:42 This is so funny
16:15 I don’t understand this😂😂
E o frio que deveria estar lá, e esses caras sem camisa kkkk
Homens e mulheres de verdade aguentam
God bless northman
21:35 What's that count in the BG?
right? I wanna know too!
This film and the series Vikings was mainly filmed in Ireland and yet despite Ireland being one of the main countries invaded by Vikings not one minute of the film or the series is about Ireland or the Vikings in Ireland. And not even any mention of the fact that most of the slaves in Iceland were Irish.
man, I want to see this movie so bad. But covid kicked...
So much extra footage was stripped and it tells in the film, so many scenes and characters underdeveloped. Better be a directors cut.
6:35
Ouch
every time the scene is cut with the black screen. it's very annoying!!!
Where was it filmed?
According to the resources I just saw this movie was shot in northern Ireland, republic of Ireland and Iceland !!! It looks great btw
Anyone relive ameloth was on his knees just like his father at the end.
