  • What is your favorite tool in creating resin art? My Wagner Heat Gun is mine 😁. Always in arms reach near my resin table to help Moonkusser Art create wispy details or intricate lacing. Trial of Crystal Clear Epoxy Resin from The Epoxy Resin Store is a success with the help of my heat gun and accessory nozzle tip.

    For your own safety I recommend wearing a full face respirator when working with resin.

      @MoonkusserArt  Před 4 lety +1

      Thank you Wendy. Do some research for your own peace of mind and safety as I do not know much and I am not a professional on this topic. Here are some things I do for myself. Work in area that can be ventilated. I have a fan in window. Wear good quality nitrile gloves and avoid allowing resin contact skin. When sanding dry resin I wear a dust mask, safety glasses, and gloves. I keep a fire extinguisher handy at all times when using a torch or heat gun. Be safe ❤️

    This is the most informative video on epoxy art that I have seen. Have you had problems with scorching resin with the gun? Also, I had problems getting my epoxy to move--maybe my heat was too low.

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  Před 4 lety

      👍🏻Good question! Anybody can have times when the resin might scorch. All resin has a limit on time that it is workable. When that time limit is ending the chance of scorch is greater from any heat source being used to manipulate the resin.
      Check out this video - czcams.com/video/q-tgGsvuuf0/video.html
      In it I used a resin that had a high viscosity right from the start. I discuss how I approached working the piece to get it to perform with good results.

    I appreciate this video!
    I bought a Wagner heat gun on a whim (300 not 500 but I think they’re similar enough) because I heard they’re a great investment if you’re working with resin. I don’t think I’ll be using it on the UV resin charms I’ve got going on now (seems like overkill for those) but I’ve now gotten several ideas for pieces using 2 part resin in the future, and it’s all thanks to your video.
    I feel much more confident on what I can use it for, now. Thank you!

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  Před 2 lety

      I have not yet tried UV resin. It is VERY different from Epoxy Resins. I agree with you, no need to use a heat gun on UV just stir slow when mixing to reduce potential bubbles. UV is perfect for small items like your charms. A heat gun is a game changer for large resin pours for artwork. You are going to have fun seeing what it can do. Enjoy! 😁

    Hello, I love your piece! Thank you for sharing. Quick question, when you use spray paint for your canvas, is the first step to use a coat of clear resin, let dry for 24 hours, sand, then spray paint, then add the thin layer of resin before you being pouring colors?

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  Před 2 lety

      When I start with a canvas first thing is to make sure the canvas has not stretched and sag. It should sound like a drum when you tap it.

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  Před 2 lety

      Thanks Ayesha. Mica powders are lighter and so they typically float up in resin and have more drift type of effect. Pastes like to sink and combine more thoroughly into the resin. Different looks from each.

      Thanks. I support the canvas with either a piece of picture mat board or a very thin type of plywood called luan. I then support by placing cups and paint sticks where needed to hold it level. I thought I had demonstrated in a video but apparently not. I will have to do that in the future.

      @@MoonkusserArt You may have done it in another video I did not see. Thank you for taking the time to share your technique!

    So the colored resin should only be poured over wet resin as the base coat? Love how this turned out!

      Thank you Kristin.
      In this video that was the process. I spray painted canvas gray and allowed to dry. I then used the same gray spray paint to color the resin I coated the entire canvas as base layer. Then started adding other colored resin pools and worked with the heat gun. Hope that makes sense.

      You are welcome. This heat gun does not show the exact measurement, only as measured in bar indicators.

    This is so great and stunning 🤩! Question, my resin dried up on my so quickly (less than 10 mins), any tips on why that happened?

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  Před 2 lety

      There could be several reasons like what you used to color your resin, large quantity of mixed resin in a container for to long, air temperature over 78ºF, applying to much heat while manipulating the resin. I have experienced each one of those and always say that I do my best learning from my mistakes.

      @@MoonkusserArt Thanks a lot for the great tips! Yeah air temperature was 85ºF (I live in SoCal) and was dry (20% humidity). I'll try it out then when it's colder. Great channel, keep it up please!

    beautiful artwork. I have bugs i used in the resin its a bit tacky how do I do a proper curing with a heatgun?

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  Před 6 měsíci

      If it is tacky after 24 hours it means that your mix ratios were not correct and using a heat gun on it will not get it to cure.

    Hello ! I find your demonstration very interesting and the result is beautiful. But the cells are produced only by the heat gun ? Merci.

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  Před 4 lety

      The heat gun blows the different colors of resin over the other causing cells. I then use the torch to expand and define the cells more.
