- Night Court is returning to NBC after the original show went off the air back in 1992. In this video, I discuss what the latest details are about this relaunch, or as one of the show's stars (Melissa Rauch) calls a "newboot". #nightcourt #johnlarroquette #melissarauch

I am hoping VERY Much that Brent Spiner will make an appearance and reprise his character from the original show.
That would be totally AWESOME!
Im thinking the same thing
👍
@@stephensundstrom6379 Hello. It’s us.
I loved the original and I’m looking forward to this one. Hopefully with John Larroquette being so involved it won’t stray too much.
👍
Yep! Me too!
If they don't use the original theme song, I'm burning this whole thing down!
Totally agree! I love that bass line on that song!
I loved hearing about the relaunch of Night Court.🎉❤
Thanks Georgia! Have a great weekend!
Me, too! I can't wait, man! I've been rewatching the old episodes so I can catch up before it returns!
It wouldn't be the same without Harry Anderson. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
Nawww, I've got a bad feeling about this. So much of what made the show funny was the raunchy humour that in today's climate would be _impossible._ "Fielding" was a smarmy, sex-crazed, sleaze. I can't even begin to imagine how neutered the character will be now. Richard Moll is right to trust his instincts.
I hope you’re wrong! I’m optimistically hopeful about this. Either way, thanks for watching my video!
@@stephensundstrom6379 I hope so, too. I like John Larroquette. Hope this works out for him. Thanks, Stephen.
👍
I agree. As I've watched repeats of the original Night Court, in between my large guffaws I've thought there's no way this stuff would fly today. By the way, I suspect the reason why Richard Moll refuses to be part of the sequel is not because he thinks it's going to fail.
@@1401minstrel _Not_ because he thinks it's going to fail?..? Or _because_ he thinks it's going to fail?
I wonder if Marsha Warfield would be willing to do some cameos also it would be funny to see the family that Brent Spiner was in vist the courtroom though perhaps not as defendants.
I would LOVE to see Brent Spiner’s character of Bob Wheeler make an appearance for sure!
I would love to see Marsha Warfield come back as Roz! I'm really sorry she wasn't even asked to be part of this new Night Court. I'm hoping it was just a HUGE oversight on the part of Melissa Rauch and John Larroquette and the other producers.
@@1401minstrel I heard she turned it down
I have a feeling that this will be like New Coke, at least the reruns are still around. I hope that it's great though.
I hope it’s great as well!
😉Stephen you may also know that, That 70's show is returning as That 90's Show! With most of the original cast returning or making special guest appearances.🤗👍🙏📺
Yes, I’m excited to see that!
Wow! Melissa Rauch is looking very beautiful and gorgeous as a judge! 👩🏼⚖👩🏼⚖👩🏼⚖👩🏼⚖⚖⚖⚖⚖🏛🏛🏛🏛❤❤❤❤
👍
You forgot mention Roz played by Marshall Warfield. I love all of night Court from season 1 on down.
Yes, I did forget Roz, but I’m currently working on a video specifically about Marsha Warfield that I’ll be publishing as soon as possible. Thanks for watching my video!
Hey Stephen, thanks for the update!!!
Happy New Year to you & your family!!! 🎉🎈🥳
Same to you! I hope 2023 treats you well!
so looking forward to it.Night Court was my favorite
👍
Actually, I believe the original started taping in 1983. Premiered Winter of 1984. Yes, I checked Wikipedia.
Thanks for sharing this additional detail!
Can't wait to see the new season of the show! I'm very much looking forward to it!
Me too! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
@@stephensundstrom6379Yep! No problem, dude!
You forgot Marica Warfield’s character Roz. The female bailiff. She was the third female bailiff after Selma diamond and I forgot the other older woman’s name.
Great point! Marcia Warfield was great in the role of Roz!
@@stephensundstrom6379 Also Bull Shannon
The other female bailiff was Florence, or Flo. Marsha broke the curse, if you recall. Florence Halop (Flo) was hired to replace Selma Diamond after Selma died. Then Florence Halop died, and Marsha Warfield was hired to replace Florence. Marsha was young at the time, age 32. She has now thankfully outlived Selma and Florence, and she's doing stand up in Las Vegas on a regular basis.
This is a great video and I am happy that there will be a new revival of Night Court. I have some suggestions for your next videos. Can you please do some new videos in regards to celebrating the life of Betty White? Next week on January 17, 2023 will be her birthday and she would have turned 101 if she was still living today. Also, please do some new videos about that popular sitcom show called The Golden Girls which ran from 1985 to 1992. It would be great if you and others can help celebrate the life of Betty White by doing some new videos about it all next week on your CZcams channel. Otherwise, have a wonderful day.
Great suggestion! Thanks John!
It's as if they're throwing a "Hail Mary" pass; except (in reality) what are they even trying to win. They're not going to win over viewers of the original show because; there are (3) three factors working against them.
(1) The viewership of the original program, if they even attempt to watch this iteration; if one can even call it that...
Even watching the program will make them long for the camaraderie and timing of the original cast.
(2) And vastly more important is the fact that the legacy viewership will rightly see it as an ardent slap in the face and wholy disrespectful to all those supreme professionals who made the original program the lasting property that only (The Original) show is.
(3) furthermore, lastly as I have expressed several times (to your brother) having a reboot, a reimagining of this is completely disrespectful to the memories of the actors who have (so many of them) recently passed away. Their awesome chemistry; along with their fellow original cast members creativity needs to be left alone...
And not tarnished by something that even if new viewers see this new attempt, even they will know it's missing something and what it will be missing is twofold; heart and honesty.
Good for Richard Mull for passing on this with such vehemence. Melissa Roush doesn't have enough name credibility to headline a sitcom. And even four and with all the comedic brilliance which John Larroquette does indeed possess; he plays and his best off the dynamics of his fellow actors. And if everyone will recall Mr Larroquette did indeed have the opportunity to star in his own sitcom after "Night Court" ended and it didn't fair very well.
In the end, the viewing public has to want to root for the characters; or allow those same characters even deeper still into their own consciousness; you have to want the characters to succeed - and quite frankly I don't want the show to succeed; and I don't think I'm alone in this feeling. Thusly, then the new show will find it quite difficult to gain a following and even more importantly admiration, so in the end I predict this "New" sitcom will only sustain a run of half or less than half of one season..
I will quite begrudgingly and pessimistically watch the first episode (in its entirety) to see if indeed all of what I have said will have come to pass; which is what I'm sure most people will do in fact. After this the show will (correctly & rightly) see persimpiness decline in viewership; leading to my predicted half a season (or less) run and subsequent cancellation.
Here's an example of what I'm talking about; can you tell me that the new show will ever get to this level where the audience cares this deeply about characters and an overall universe?
Watch this spectacular balanced perfection:

Thank you Harry Anderson and John Larroquette!
John, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I will say that in regards to your argument that Melissa Rauch doesn’t have enough “name credibility”, if you think back to when Night Court first aired, Harry Anderson wasn’t a well known name either. I’m hopeful that the show will be great, but it does have the potential to be a flop. Have a great weekend!
I loved this show but have mixed feelings about this. Not sure if they can recapture the magic.
Thanks for watching my video! I remain very hopeful that this will be great!
@@stephensundstrom6379 OK if they bring back Brett Spiner as Bob Wheeler, I will love it!!
That would be epic!
im just going to check it out for laroquette
one of my fav actors
but from the previews, it appears that they have softened his character
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I’ll be watching!
The only remake I ever enjoyed was Columbo with Peter Falk. It was just as good as the original, maybe better.
Columbo is one of my all time favorites! Thanks for watching my video!
I can tell you already. It won't be any good. That's too bad. Take care Stephan. Happy new year.
I hope you’re wrong Thomas! Happy New Year to you as well my friend!
One problem. When the original show ended, there was no mention of Harry having a daughter or who her mom was.
That is true. I guess he had to have had her after that original timeline.
Bull Was My Favorite Character A Day In The Life (200 Cases) My Favorite Episode
I LOVED Bill Shannon! A great character. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
What happened to Marsha Warfield who played Roz? She was another reason the original was so great.
She continued to act throughout the 90s. I need to do a video about her career!
After the 1990s she retired for a long time, to care for her ailing mother. Now she's back, living in Las Vegas and doing stand up. I think it's a shame they didn't ask her to be part of this sequel.
Well remember Richard Moll will be turning 80 on this coming Friday so by all rights would have long been retired as a bailiff. The show looks good but it will never be as good as the original.
True! The bar set by the original Night Court will be nearly impossible to match. With that said, I’m excited to see what this show brings us. Thanks for watching my video!
Ellen Foley was not asked back…wonder why?
Great question! I hope she makes a cameo at some point!
I plan to watch the new Night Court because I looooove Melissa Rauch and John Larroquette. I wish that Richard Moll and Marsha Warfield were coming back as well. We'll see how it goes. Thanks and Happy 2023! 💖 I have a very special suggestion for you. Can I please suggest you do a video on the SHOCKING reason Tommy Chong's character Leo Chingkwake was written off of That '70s Show?
Thanks Tarrell! And another great suggestion that I’ll add to my list!
Wow two good shows coming back yay
👍
I hope this show can find its audience. It has potential but only if only if it can bring in new viewers.
Agreed!
By this time, Dan Fielding looks pathetic if he is still stuck working as the prosecuting attorney at the Night Court which normally deals with misdemeanors and graveyard shift arrests.
It’s going to be interesting to see how they write his character.
He's now the public defender
what about roz, Marsha Warfield. any news about her?
Not yet, but I would love to see her make a cameo appearance!
I'm kinda excited to see if it works!
Happeeeee New Year!
Happy New Year to you as well!
My favorite characters were Bull, Bob Wheeler and Buddy.
I loved all those characters too, especially Buddy, played by the great John Astin.
Who was Bob Wheeler? From Ms. Harper Stacey.
I will give it a try because the wonder years reboot was good as well
👍
This show was one of the greats. It was the opposite of woke. I don't think it will live up to the original. But I can't see how unless it's gonna be R rated on a subscription network. At least they should bring out a dvd or bluray box set of the original
👍
Night Court is going to premiere on January 17th on NBC
👍. I’ll be watching!
If this reboot was a stock, I would take out a loan to short it.
Interesting thought! Thanks for watching my video and sharing your thoughts!
I am looking forward to the reboot
Me too!
@@stephensundstrom6379 reboots don't work well. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
@Harper Stacey thanks for sharing your thoughts!
.... I'm not.... they can shove that "reboot" where the sun don't shine....
The Game Show was easily the best episode.
👍
I've seen clips the show just looks too sitcomy. What I mean is the sets look almost too perfect and sterile, like hardly anything is out place everything looks so bright. It feels like you are watching a TV show, which I know we are.
In the orignal Night Court the sets and the environments felt lived in and dirty at times. The court room and the rest of the building sets actually looked and felt like a municipal building and the lighting was more subdued. Even the sets for the apartment looked lived in.
When watching the orignal I knew I was watching a TV show but because of the sets and the environment feeling and looking lived in, to me it felt more like the real world and that I was watching the characters actually going through their daily lives and I could possibly run into them on the street.
I don't get that feeling when watching the new show.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
TV Guide should devote a Front Cover to the New Night Court Show
Agreed!
Richard Moll is 80 years old today, Jan.13,2023. That is a very good reason for not reappearing in the reboot.
👍. Great point!
I highly doubt he will be in it but John Astin who played Buddy is still alive and kicking and is 92.
I would love to see John Astin make an appearance, but I don’t know how his health is.
@@stephensundstrom6379 I just looked on his wiki and he taught at John Hopkins university from 2001 to 2021 where he was the director of their theater arts and studies. Not sure what he is up to now or his health.
Interesting....thanks for sharing that additional information.
Looks like a good cast and I hope it does well, but if history is an indicator, these kinds of redo shows quickly crash and burn. So bummed "Bull" isn't interested. He was a "big" part of what made the old show great. Also, as you may remember bailiffs for the old show died off like Star Trek red shirt crewmen, so I wish the new actress well. Hope that curse is done.
👍
@@stephensundstrom6379 Btw, Happy New Year, Stephen!!!
Nice to "meet" you. Your brother knows me well. - Jstn
👍. I’m heading over to his house in just a few minutes to celebrate and welcome in the New Year! Happy New Year to you!
Not just like Star Trek, though. In this case, they REALLY DIED. Meaning the actresses who played them died. Big difference.
@@1401minstrel Humor is lost on some people. LOLOL

I'm a conservative hippie, too. I understand.

@@stephensundstrom6379 Happy New Year, Stephen! Hope you're doing well!
@@hungryjerk7872 Yep! Ha!
What, no Brent Spiner?
Brent Spiner was only in seven episodes of the original series, so not really a cast regular. With that said, it’d be so freaking cool to see him reprise his role of Bob Wheeler!
@@stephensundstrom6379 Exactly. If I recall they almost made him a regular when he won the role of Data on TNG.
👍
@@censorshipsucks9493 Yes. They were going to buy the newsstand.
@@downhomesunset Actually they did buy the newsstand. Bull's candy bar cost him $10,000, or something stupid like that.
Was at work
I recorded them to my dvr. I thought they were pretty good!
This is a REALLY bad idea I'll give it two weeks at best.
I sure hope you’re wrong about that. I loved the original series and am optimistic that this will be great as well. Have a great weekend!
@@stephensundstrom6379 Therein lies the problem, the cast was such an integral part of the success of the show they'll never be able to capture the magic that made the show so great.
You have a great day and a VERY happy and prosperous New Years!!!
👍
I give it one week. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
Nope, not watching until Bull returns! It is not night court until he returns!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
.... Dan Fielding should have been a municipal judge, by now.... seeing that OLD character, still stuck in first gear.... might be too painful for me to watch....
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Go woke, go broke John Larroquette! I'll watch the first show on the 17th.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
No offense to the actors I’m sure they are wonderful … but this is one reboot I have no interest in… I wish then all well though … ❤️
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
This show will be a failure .. other than John, there is zero talent ..
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I watched the first couple of episodes and quite liked it, so I hope you’re wrong.
Melissa Rauch isn't as funny as she thinks she is. This show will flop badly. Don't expect a season two.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Personally I hope you’re wrong, because I would LOVE for this to be great.
