@KainsAddiction this looks so much better than the original lol. And the lighting in itself is so much better. You must not have even seen the beginning of the video where the game looked horrible. Either that or you forgot to go beyond 240p on CZcams 🤣. Not to mention, this is proof of concept how easy it is to remaster a game and add upscaling. But devs lie and make it sound so difficult so they demand millions to do what 1 man did

Well, doing this to a Level where all the game's Scripts, A.I., Combat Systems, etc. are fully intact does take TONS of time, & it does take a fair amount of $$ & "manpower" to expedite the process, BUT, yeah they do overblo the actual effort & $$ involved to justify needless Corporate excess
better than the original from 22 years ago? Yeah, no shit. But for 2024? Nah. If it looked like this a remake wouldn't even be worth the time

I love this. Being able to see things at a different angle is so cool especially the first area where you fight Kimahri. I would love to see Remiem Temple or Baaj Temple, Kilika would also probably look incredible.

Absolutely stellar work! Probably my favorite game of all time, and seeing it like this makes me whish there was a remade version that was up to modern graphics standards. Square will have a high bar to climb over to match or exceed the quality and passion of your work if they ever want to do a remake of FFX.

@Elusive Panda hello there, nice one, actually I also work on a FFX/X-2 videogame project, I have implemented my very own game engine for it in C/C++ programming languages, I officially am a Software Developer / Engineer and I had worked at several various industries like IT Security, Simulator / VideoGame Development, Automotive / Navigation, Healthcare / Medical Domain, it was the Final Fantasy Franchise that made me become a C++ Programmer, I'm so really grateful and I indeed am so truly all thankful to the FF series, there are even two FFX/X-2 projects planned with a stories that I was working on since 2003, "FFX-2.8: Rikku's Story" (wanted to name it X-3, but since X-3 happens and it's not about Rikku's Story despite the plans back then in 2003) and a "FFX-0: Origins", since I'd like to make the development process way much more faster, I started to use UE5 as well, still the engine I wrote is pretty useful and goes well with UE5, by the way, I was the one with the Yuna800 name who helped to Monty Oum in scripting on Project "Dead Fantasy", if you are interested to share resources with each other or team up to make awesome things in the FFX/X-2 universe, then please drop a comment and I'd share my contact, thank you so really very much in advance and congrats again :)

Doing this, but for Final Fantasy XIII levels would be such a cool project. Having played the trilogy for almost a decade now, i've had an itch to see what the games levels would look like remastered. Hands down some of the best level designs in the whole FF franchise

even though the FFX remake has been all but confirmed. its gonna be sad when it happens, cause we all know it aint going to have that 1 to 1 comparison with upscaled graphics, locations and designs are def going to be different, but at least we have this to see the "what if"

I've been lately fantasizing about the idea of working on my own FFX remake, as I had the best time doing something similar with another one of my childhood games in the past. I got to know awesome people and learned a lot. Seeing it with a free roam camera instead of locked camera angle , I can definitely imagine ffx as a action rpg, instead of a turn based rpg

Ok, here we go:
On of things that I really like about modern game graphics is the lighting and water modeling. Aside from character models this to me seems to most important visual contribution of modern graphics: lighting coneys mood, faces convey emotion. The better these are the more we believe the unreal is real.
With that said, did you use the low poly model of tidus (for when he was not the focus of a cut scene or the hi polygon version?
I ask because the remaster has wonky ass hi polygon versions with some poor facial animation.
Second thought/ question combo:
Do you think a game with excellent facial animations and expressive character models that weren't necessarily fully realistic wonderful art design and equally realistic and lovely music, sound design, very well executed and professional voice acting and top notch lighting but with much less focus on other visual factors or graphics at all and instead moving that focus entirely to script/ story/ scenario/ game play versus story consistency ( or inconsistency as is found creatively effective) innovation in game mechanics, style and imagination mood, feeling, replayability, conveyance and thought provoking consequential plotting with characters that resonate with real world issues, emotions and concerns and an ending that is satisfying and most importantly
No brown and gray hallways
No staid, shallow overused or underdone anything?
Rather that just.... look at the pretty?

The Tidus model in this video is the one from the cutscenes in the Playstation 2 version of the game.
You make a good point about lighting conveying mood and facial expression conveying emotion. I think facial expressions are something very difficult to get right in video games because of the technology and finesse it requires to get them to look right, especially for a highly emotional scene in the game.
But I think everything you mentioned plays a part in what most gamers are looking for, which is immersion. Make me believe this story with it's world and characters is real. And to that note I would say graphics are pretty low on the priority list. Sure graphics can make something highly immersive, but the second I see an NPC glitching through a tree, no matter how good they look, it breaks that immersion.
In my opinion one of the most important aspects to a single player game is the story. While FFX has great gameplay, it's the story that we all remember most. I've played SNES games with amazing stories which obviously didn't have great graphics.
if i could get a remake with modern graphics and orchestration that retains the turn based battle system, i could die happy
