  • Actors Allison Williams and Daniel Kaluuya stop by Google to Talk their latest film "Get Out" - the directorial debut of Jordan Peele.
    More about the film: When a young African-American man visits his white girlfriend’s family estate, he becomes ensnared in a more sinister real reason for the invitation.
    The film stars Allison Williams ("Girls") Daniel Kaluuya ("Black Mirror", "Skins") as well as Bradley Whitford ("The West Wing", "The Cabin in the Woods") Catherine Keener ("The 40 Year Old Virgin", "Being John Malkovich") Stephen Root ("Office Space") and Lil Rel Howery ("The Carmichael Show").

    Daniel Kaluuya speaks at these times stamps:
    1:25 - 2:16 reaction to being offered the part
    4:36 - 5:41 being black in a white environment
    7:33 - 8:05 motivation for taking the part
    11:13 - 13:08 making Chris relatable
    14:52 - 17:25 identifying with Chris
    19:08 - 21:07 knowledge of Allison before Get Out
    21:35 - 23:02 awkward interracial dating situation
    26:28 - 28:25 feelings towards the movie as an audience member
    I noticed some comments about him being interrupted a lot so I hope this helps.

    it was the coolest thing watching this in a white suburban movie theater. I was a little iffy about how the audience would react but by the end everyone was cheering the protagonist on. it felt very communal and gave me a little hope, for sure.

    Maybe I'm nitpicking here, but what is with all this attention on Allison as if this is her movie? Look at all of these titles that list her name before Daniel's. Daniel is the star, right? So why does she keep getting center stage? In most cases, there are interviews that have only the leading role featured, but I've yet to see that for Daniel with his movie. It's just Allison constantly being inserted into everything. Even in this interview, she keeps hogging the mic, and at some point, when he talks deeply about racism for a moment, she literally cuts him off saying "go easy". Like...what?
    It's almost as if Hollywood said, "yeah, let them make this important topical film, but let's mitigate it by not treating it as important as it is." It's like Chimamanda Ngozi's quote about sexism in America, but this time it's about race:
    "You can have ambition, but not too much." That's how it seems people are treating Daniel, Jordan Peele, and this movie.

    For someone who claims she enjoys listening and learning, she talks quite a bit even when it's not her place. Like when the girl was referring to Daniel about the pronunciation his last name. How she gonna 'yes' when it's HIS last name? Wouldn't it make more sense for him to respond than her? Even if she knows whether the pronunciation of the name was right or wrong, why did she feel the need to make that decision when he's sitting right there and perfectly capable of answering himself? This is why black people get upset with white people. They act like they want to learn but when black people try to talk and teach them, they feel the need to talk over them, speak for them or find some way to inject their own thoughts/opinions that then overshadow the black person's thoughts/opinions. If y'all really want to do better white folks, learn when and when not to speak. Sometimes it's better to just shut-up and listen, especially when it comes to topics like racism.

      She's that person who likes the sound of their own voice and thinks they have so much more to contribute than everyone else/think they're so funny/want attention so she keeps interrupting, says "yes" constantly when someone else is speaking, is the first one to talk, etc. I bet she always does it but it comes off way more cringeworthy in this context. She thinks she's so aware but she's actually oblivious. I was interested in what he had to say and it was annoying when she did this. I'm 21 minutes in and I've only seen one time where she actually seems to be hearing him.
      Edit: Just hit that part. It was the second time she actually seems to be kind of hearing him. Felt like she is uncomfortable with the truth so had to crack a joke, which took away from what he was saying. It was heavy but we need to hear it.

    The second fan question actually made tears start to well up in my eyes. I wish Daniel would have gotten to answer it more without being interrupted. I agree with the girl and Daniel the movie made me very sad. The brother who was creepy from jump and Georgina and her breakdown. And then to the end when the cop car showed up I just knew that Chris was going to catch a bullet in his chest. I think I even said aww man that's fucked up now the cops wanna show and it just looked like a bad situation for a black man and I as everyone else knows how black people sometimes feel about police. But I went home feeling guilty and upset that I felt that way. And as a 24 y/o Nanny. I am often in a situation where I'm like what tf am I doing in this big ass house on a private lake with these white kids. Carla Marlene S Haha well I forget what convinced me write that so you could very well be right. Maybe she's such a good actor that she convinced me she believed what she was saying? It was just weird that she kept making up motivations that her character didn't actually have, basically lying whole cloth. There's a difference between omission and lying. But maybe she thought if she was too cagey about it people would suspect her character and overcompensated. Idk, it can be made to make sense.

    • @Mithcoriel
      @Mithcoriel Před rokem

      @@janksamillion If she were to only speak the truth, she wouldn't be able to tell you anything about her character's motivations at all. So she speaks the way it appears: In the first half of the movie, she seems like the good girl noticing family's subtle racism, which is also one part of the story.
      You can be assured by this clip czcams.com/video/2AE0tMvL-aM/video.html that she very much knows.

    I have to say to the actors and actresses, this was a great movie. I was Intrigued and Fascinated, by the idea and the Execution. The soundtrack and the cinematography 10/10.
    Now, as far as this interview I would have to say after reading the comments, I feel as though as a black person as an African American, I kinda wanted to see Allison's point of view being a white actress in this type of film I actually would like to hear the other white actors point of view on the whole thing as well. just from the standpoint of taking a job like this. I mean where you know when it comes out that It could ruin your career. Putting someone's self in the hot seat is a true test for one's character. you don't know how many times I have seen an actor playing a role, whether good or bad, and actually put a real feeling of dislike towards the real person... I feel as though we need to be actually open to having conversations...
    and the fact that this movie speaks to the "black" experience, not just African Americans but all people of color. Many of us have been in that very same party scene where you feel like "I know they meant well but, dam that's awkward"... It's true she does talk over him repeatedly, I don't have a problem with that.. Cause I can see her passion for what she is speaking on. I also feel as though maybe they had an understanding of these interviews before time. if you pay attention to the energy in the room he felt uncomfortable and I felt it too.... she was trying to bridge the gap...a great actress and this tale is as much a story about the black experience but that doesn't exclude everyone else from having their own Interpretations of that experience. you can not say here "watch this film about us." but don't say anything too crazy, she may be "woke" to whatever Degree she can be "woke" but I guess it doesn't matter at all cause mostly everybody else is sleep anyways. Just saying...

  • @mgdkns6678
    @mgdkns6678 Před 3 lety

    Why is Allison saying, referring to her character, that she discovers, transitioning from the metropolitan city to the suburbs where the parents lived, that she noticed “through his eyes” how he is treated differently?! Isn’t her character the one “fishing” for victims and bringing them to her parents?! Didn’t Chris (Daniel) found pictures of her with a few other black people in the drawer?! He was definitely not her first experience, she also says he was “one of her favorites”. Am I missing something?! 😂

    • @Mithcoriel
      @Mithcoriel Před rokem

      She's avoiding spoilers, so she's lying about her character. It's the closest she can get to describing the movie honestly: while in real life it isn't really Rose learning about all these racist microaggressions, we the audience learn about some of them. So what she says is semi-true.
