    I love that Echo lives strongly by the idea that you dont need expensive supplies to make "good" art. As someone who also grew up in poverty, living in a mobile trailer home, it means a lot to see someone actually value cheap to mid-range art supplies😁

      @Gay Potato There are so many dollar store or cheap art challenges video, just watch those for inspiration. Honestly, I see more of people whining their art suck cuz they don't have good supply when every single video say: it how you use the supply not what is the supply which mean work on your art and you don't need expensive supply. There only a few artist I seen use the $100 color pencil and even less use the $100 paint. Most youtuber use Prisma color (which are mid price) and arteza paint. The most expensive art supply a lot of people use are copic and posca marker. However, I haven't seen anyone trash the ouhua which is the cheap alternative and instead every praise them like crazy. If we get even cheaper, I hardly see any video dissing crayloa but just saying they aren't as good as $100 pencil but come on it like a $1 vs $100, you can;t expect them to win.

      @Gay Potato I don;t find your comment CONDESCENDING. People always assume the worst of American but a lot of us are poor immigrant (or children of poor immigrant ) who came here for a better life. I was from a very poor country as well and we didn;t even have indoor plumbing when I live there. We are very privilege in America that I do agree. Being poor here is middle class in a lot of places. Anyway as long as you have passion for art, that all that matter. Growing up my parent never buy me art supply so I mostly draw with a pencil and any kind of paper I could get. Line, white, empty pages of book, etc I love to draw and just being able to draw was so much joy. I never care how bad my art was cuz I love it so much. It made me draw every day and I did get better from passion. A lot of youtuber only got better cuz they practice a lot out of love and passion for their art.
      Remember art is about the passion, joy, and freedom to express your creativity. It doesn't matter how good it is to everyone, what material you use, but how much you love it. The more love and passion you got for your art then better it will get. If you want to improve, there a lot of online resource and pen and paper to practice. Some of the best artist (even on youtube) only draw with a ball point pen and paper. So don't feel your work is ever inferior as talent is not base in what you use but how you use it. Plus art is always about having fun and enjoying yourself.

  • @insolubleCorrosion
    @insolubleCorrosion Před 3 lety +55

    if anyone is watching this because they want to make good art without spending a lot of money, my advice is to get individual tubes or pans of colours, and then only get magenta, blue, yellow, black, and white. you can mix any colour as long as you have those :)
    i would recommend getting magenta rather than red, because red doesn't make very pretty purples or pinks, and you can make magenta into red by adding a little yellow!

    • @pavloverboy
      @pavloverboy Před 3 lety +7

      Echo has a video on this as well! It's how I learned that cyan, magenta, and yellow pigments can make any colour and are much more vibrant than the standard red, yellow, and blue

    • @RainbowEntropy
      @RainbowEntropy Před 3 lety +2

      No, sir. You can mix your own shade or grey. Also, white is usually your paper or by thinning your paint with water. For highlights, I would suggest white gouache, white acrylic, or a white gel pen. There's more to color theory than just cmy for mixing. You should look up the color theory videos by Dr. Oto Kano here on youtube. Very informative!

  • @tobeseve4020
    @tobeseve4020 Před 3 lety +5

    Personally I'd recommend getting a small collection of good paint rather than a large collection of mediocre or bad paint, if you have the option. A smaller selection will get you used to mixing colors, (a very important skill with watercolor) and give you an idea of wether or not you like the medium without spending a ton of money, but you still get to have high quality materials.
    Also, and I will say this to my grave, paper is more important than paint. If even remotely possible, get cotton watercolor paper, not wood pulp. It makes such a massive difference, it's insane.

    I wouldn't say cheap watercolours are *bad*, but it should be emphasized that there are very extreme differences depending on what paints (and paper) you get, in terms of texture, flow, colour brightness (much like explained in the video, but like, really extreme differences). My point being, if you're new to watercolours and are finding the really cheap ones or the really expensive ones frustrating, don't give up or let that colour (pun intended) your view of all watercolours! Kuretake colours are about the same price as Doc Martins watercolours (both expensive), yet both are super different- you use Doc Martins if you want smth that'll scan to digital perfectly (because extreme bright colours) You use kuretake if you want pastel colours that dont go muddy. I use cheaper options like the ones in the video when I want something you can mess around with a lot before drying (because typically more expensive paints dry very quickly).

Turning dog breeds into anime girls. My first thought was collie, which is super interesting to try to figure out to me because anime girls (I feel) typically have small faces with large eyes, while collies typically have very long faces with small almond eyes, so just trying to figure out how those would mix is a fun idea to me.

If that name does not tell you anything, they are a Chinese watercolor maker that sell paints under their own name, but also make paints for a huge number of other brands lke Artify, Artsy, Ezzigo, various in-store brands, and so on. They are decent enough watercolors, personally I think they are nicer than Arteza, but no they do not compare to traditional high end artist quality watercolors.
