I think this simulation is so focused on the worst possible out come that the designers forgot to ask the questions how would people on the ground respond and would a nation chose to use a surface burst if they did not have to. to quote nuke map "A surface burst means the nuclear weapon is detonated on or very near the ground. An airburst means that the weapon is detonated high enough that its fireball does not touch the ground. They have somewhat different acute effects, and very different radiological effects (e.g. fallout is primarily from surface bursts)." also gave me this message "Modeling casualties from a nuclear attack is difficult. These numbers should be seen as evocative, not definitive. Fallout effects are deliberately ignored, because they can depend on what actions people take after the detonation. For more information about the model" though the link is dead"
and honestly I am more scared of chemical weapons since you cant see them, they kill in less than 120 seconds with a drop, and they will persist for months. did you know gulf war syndrome it was caused by chemical weapons made air born from detonated ammo storage.
the majority of my source is hypothetical history's videos on both types of weapons. and i think every one should watch both the most neutral and informative on either subject

      "My background
My name is Ivan Stepanov, I am a simulation engineer and the developer of The Nuclear War Simulator. I was born in the city of Semipalatinsk, Kazakhstan which is known for the fact that the Soviet Union was testing most of its nuclear weapons on a test site just 150 km away. Everybody in my family has experienced atmospheric or underground nuclear weapons tests. One of my family members was constructing the tunnels for underground testing for several years and another one was evacuated during one of the early atmospheric tests. I have no formal education in the area of nuclear weapons, however, I was collecting and reading resources on this topic since I was a child. I was collecting books, and newspaper articles about the victims of the test site, and spent a lot of time in the library which had a whole section dedicated to the nuclear weapons test site.
I now live in Germany, I did a Ph.D. in experimental physics at the RWTH Aachen University working with lasers, semiconductors, and high-frequency electronics. At the moment I am working as a simulation engineer modeling laser sensors and generating synthetic sensor data for self-driving cars’ AI. In my free time, I am working on this project."

A haunting simulation to be sure, yet all its intricate calculations still cannot depict the true extent of the suffering such a disaster would entail. Power and clean water would be cut not just to the affected areas but entire nations. Public order would collapse, as would most people's food supply. Even those unaffected by the direct effects of the blast and the radiation would struggle to survive in a bleak new world where everyone has to fend for themselves with zero support. No medical care, either: You step on a rusty nail, contract a bad cold, or get an infected tooth? A slow, agonizing death awaits. And if you're not growing your own crops or keeping livestock, prepare to starve or fight your neighbors over dwindling scraps. Whatever lifespan you have left will be spent constantly thirsty, hungry, and sick of dysentery or other diseases. The true extent of the damage to most of humanity would only become evident after months and years. If your side is flirting with the idea of starting a nuclear war then you need to start asking yourselves if you're really the good guys. Stop the madness.

11:00 i think this is how to look at it.
I dont think the game is trying to be offensive, it's merely showing the harsh reality of just how dangerous this sick game that Russia is playing could be, and how easily it could all spiral out of control during a single day, before we've even seen the news on TV, ICBM's could be flying in the air.
Sometimes you have to face the horrors of what could happen, to make everything to ensure it doesnt happen.
In the sense that, if we dont KNOW how bad it can get, we wont avoid it.
Now, what can we do as civilians? Almost nothing.
And certainly not enough time to have a grass roots anti-nuclear movement that would affect Putin in any way.
But if we get out of this, perhaps, at least we'll gradually morph geopolitics into a non-nuclear future.
(not energy tho, we need nuclear power more than ever)
And just food for thought, if anyone thinks tactical nukes arent as bad.
What USA dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki are the same sizes we now classify as "small tactical nukes".
Hardly small by any sane definition.

"According to a Russian military doctrine stated in 2010, nuclear weapons could be used by Russia "in response to the use of nuclear and other types of weapons of mass destruction against it or its allies, and also in case of aggression against Russia with the use of conventional weapons when the very existence of the state is threatened".[41][42][43] Most military analysts believe that, in this case, Russia would pursue an 'escalate to de-escalate' strategy, initiating limited nuclear exchange to bring adversaries to the negotiating table. Germany and France was the witnesses to the agreement. Russia entered the agreement in Good faith. Ukraine & Germany did not. Russia will not trust the western governments again and rightfully so, especially since the April 2022 negotiations in turkey was also used to stall for time by Ukraine and /or was nixed by Boris Johnson at the behest of the USA.
