    The reason a lot of people quit is because they only want art on impulse. Meaning that they don't actually technically are willing to do what it takes to get where they want to be, they just want it now and only now. The truth is it takes a lot of sacrifice. Sacrificing time, other hobbies, social life, memory capacity, etc. If the feeling to illustrate isn't an ever lingering one, you don't want it. So build yourself, draw way too much and after doing that for a couple of years that's when you'll realize whether or not you actually want to draw. This applies to pretty much anything that takes time,effort and patience. Anyway, great interview. What Kim says isn't really surprising, however it's always nice to have someone tell you anyway to reinforce what you're doing.
    EDIT: My comment is manly directed towards people who want results quickly and complain when they don't improve because they have done nothing, or not enough to get there.
    Also, CZcams doesn't ping me anymore if I get responses.

      I think it's also important to not only focus on the end product since it likely wont always turn out how you wanted it to. Especially if you're a beginner.
      It's important to also enjoy the process.
      If you don't enjoy the process and end up not liking the end product either then you won't enjoy drawing.
      I personally enjoy the process of drawing more than the end product no matter how good it turned out. If i didn't enjoy the process of the drawing then i probably also won't like the end product because i didn't enjoy making it.

    • @zekesalazar7643
      @zekesalazar7643 Před 4 lety +9

      Herzen Yes I agree. It can be a real puzzle to try to figure out how to get something right, and part of the process of drawing is learning how to draw something; so you have to be willing to draw from life and reference to build that library otherwise the process of your drawing will get frustrating and you’ll never get past that wall.

    I'm 23 biggest fan of art in general and I could only wish that I had art teacher like Kim. This man has a science, art imagination. How does he do what he does? I don't think this world will ever know.

    I’ve been drawing everyday for 7 years, I do it because it gets me in a focused, meditative state, now I am channeling it into an art business but it’s a daily passion that is slowly evolving 🤙🏻 mastering something takes around 10-15 years I think, Keep Creating and don’t focus on the money, that will fall into place eventually, enjoy the moment/ process

    Having a pocket sketchbook with you at all times is a great help, draw people, study your favourite artists, read educational books,movies, know perspective, composition,etc. Draw things your not comfortable with, so many things. Also depends what you’re aiming at.

    A refreshing humble perspective. This is what it means to be an artist. Some of the people on youtube who say they are artists are the most pretentious disgusting people. However, this guy has my utter respect.

    Yes he is right. Experience is very important in art. People just underestimate thinking is just slap image there and done which is far from the truth. You need a lot of knowledge and experience to be efficient in art

    Great advice, I challenge the idea that unless you can visualise you won't progress. Of course for most of us, especially if we're visual learners, that will assist us greatly and WILL be of benefit, but this isn't an absolute. I had a student with aphantasia who definitely was able to progress in their artistry, but it was through specific processes using logic, movement and feel.
