  • I've not been a big fan of the Catachan Devil's Claw Swords for a long while, but the new Talent Tree's have really let this weapon flourish. In this video I go through what differentiates the weapons, how to build them and give a verdict on which I believe is the best.
    Its safe to say, it has become my most used & go-to weapon on my Zealot. So I encourage you to give them a try!
    Let me know your thoughts on this set of Swords in the comments, do you agree or disagree with me?

    No matter what weapon I use for melee for Vet or Zealot I almost always go back to the MK 4 Devil claw. The heavy overhead and parry ability are so useful.

      Yeah, it can't be stated enough how useful the parry special attack is. It's an absolute life saver & deals great damage as well.

      @TheWileSpice the ability to parry crushers, maulers and ragers lets me survive if they get too close, it trivalizes ragers and can one shot a mutant sometimes.

    The amount of lore they pack into this game in items is so cool, like a majority of the weapons names, in just the sword alone it references the death world, the commandos that use it and an obscure predator that stalks the uninhabitable jungles

    • @TheWileSpice
      @TheWileSpice  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Yeah it's really nice, those subtle links to the Universe. One that stumps a lot of people is the Bolt Gun being human-sized and useable by normal people. Locke Pattern Bolters are indeed human sized in lore!

      @SuperCatacata Před 7 měsíci

      Just putting it out there. Mk7 has one of the coolest single target combos in the game to use. Since you get the L3 overhead after parry and push attack. Chaining right into H2 for another over head.
      For anyone who would rather use a combo instead of spamming H1 repeatedly.
      This also gives it better dps on monsters since you can always use L3 after a parry for free.

    • @MeBeeCee
      @MeBeeCee Před 7 měsíci

      @@SuperCatacata Good point on the parry with the VII.
      The reason the IV wins for me is because I run it with fury of the faithful. The IV’s first heavy (overhead) benefits more from the fury of the faithful crit/dmg buff.

      @SuperCatacata Před 7 měsíci

      @@MeBeeCeeFair. The IV is definitely widely considered the best.

  • @Ripthejack3r
    @Ripthejack3r Před 7 měsíci +6

    Always thought the swords could use some unique blessings to pair with Parry. Some off the top, Successful parries give a 100% finnesse damage bonus for 5 seconds. Successful parry grants 25% power on the next three attacks. Could do some cool survivability ones too. Game needs more unique blessings all around really.

    • @TheWileSpice
      @TheWileSpice  Před 7 měsíci +2

      That would be pretty cool. I fear they would definitely nerf the Parry to compensate if they did though

  • @Holdelta
    @Holdelta Před 7 měsíci +13

    I'm actually quite fond of the MK7 because it operates better with my brain and habits. While it doesn't have the heavy attack single target starter, a really good "pattern" is to push attack, light attack, to do a quick stab into the light overhead, which repeating this can do fairly respectable damage with little gaps inbetween. And usually if I'm about to hit a horde, warming up the heavy sweep as its first attack is more intuitive to me, or if needed, push attack into heavy sweep is just as flexible if you need the brief breathing room before initiating the sweep. Lots of my personal tech can be accessed from the push attack on the MK7, which pushing to start most things is so deeply engrained in me.

    • @TheWileSpice
      @TheWileSpice  Před 7 měsíci +2

      That's fair! My biggest gripe with it is that you quick-access the horizontal heavy strike rather than the overhead heavy strike & the light/heavy combo pattern is fractionally worse. Otherwise they are functionally the same thing! Interesting that you've been combo'ing more with the light/push attacks. At the end of the day, whatever's the most fun works the best.

    • @SuperCatacata
      @SuperCatacata Před 7 měsíci

      Yep the mk7 actually gets better monster DPS because of it's much better parry followup light for single target.

    • @menaceiwill1
      @menaceiwill1 Před 7 měsíci

      And Mark 7 has more cleave in the stats.

    • @samfish2550
      @samfish2550 Před 7 měsíci

      So the parry's ARE all unique. It's hard to test when you can agro anything in the meat grinder to test them back to back or look at break points in isolation.
      Also with shredder dose that chain attack focus make pop up more due to the more light focused combo or dose it reset on push attack?

    • @InternationalAwesomeFoundation
      @InternationalAwesomeFoundation Před 7 měsíci

      I feel the same way about the mk4 except I don't use light-heavy alternating as my horde combo, preferring to just spam lights and go full blender. Sword has surprisingly high cleave on them light attacks I tell ya.

    Alright. IM IMPRESSED. I am a 1000 hour zealot player having come from Vermintide. I played True Duo back in V2 and now I play Auric Damnation.
    I used to main Tac axe, Pre bufff revolver, the high mark Headhunter rifle pre buff, currently have three different knife builds each with different blessings.
    Iv used every ability and every blitz. But THIS, I am impressed with. I hadnt TRIED the Mk 4 Devils claw because the other two were downright disappointing.
    Your even right to not take the Firebombs. You dont need help clearing, OR fighting ragers, so you can take blades and have fun going psycho mode and playing fast
    The talents, I would make some changes to personally. You see, with this much clearing power and this much cooldown reduction, you dont need help restoring your toughness.
    I would rather be taking Anoint in Blood to go with Chastise the Wicked, and since were already THERE, I take Purge the Unclean over Desperation. Duelist is still kind of a must have because of the way headshot and crit damage are multiplicative and our weapon of choice having a low base damage.
    Which makes us starved for points. And I HATE to say it, but I think im going Blades of Faith and Thy Wrath be Swift, over Sustained Assault.
    We dont have enough points to keep it.
    A single stun is run ending. When the gloves have to come off and we have to sprout psychic wings, its a moment of intense focus, your calculating your route, ready to shut your brain off and flow through the Emperors master plan on instinct. And then a groaner slaps you in the ass in perfect sync with a trapper finally letting his net fly.
    Other things to note, If your playing Chastize, NEVER put Damage Vs Carapace on your ranged weapon, use Flak instead just trust me.
    To oneshot combo mutants you can fling a knife and then heavy, if your late to make your move you can try to sidestep it for the backstab.
    Some weapons will prioritize hitting the head hitbox, even if there are other hitboxes in the way, as long as a targets head is in the path of your attack.
    For example, the knife can headshot muties and crushers from behind by targeting the small of their backs. If were lucky the Devils Claw can as well.
    Cheers brothers, may Hadron find your purging efficiency, admirable.

    It's only a single variant weapon sadly but even without a vid I suggest anyone reading to mess with the power maul, it is great at everything if you can maintain rhythm and control and passible even when cought off guard.
    I run weak point dmg and unyielding on perks (flack or carapace are also very valid choices and probably better for most occasions)
    Brutal momentum for a total 25% weak point dmg and cleave against armor.
    Run thunderous for control or skull crusher for some potential extra dmg, both have legitimate arguments but I prefer thunderous for knocking crushers on their ass in 2 un-buffed heavies.
    Then I go full heavy melee ogryn, running the nade box to get both impact and damage buff early on.
    The result is a high survivability anti hord that can one shot most standard enemies, and that can easily hold off mobs of maulers and crushers on its own (if gunners don't fill you with holes first but that is an ogryn thing)
    You also compete with (but don't surpass because thrust is funny) the mk1 bully club in boss damage IF you can get weak point hits, wich can be finicky to learn but isn't hard enough to ruin it)
    It's not perfect against EVERYTHING namely mutants it's a three shot without maniac and ragers take like 3-4 hits depending on the attacks but you also stunlock them so it's still easy enough.
    Bring this into scab troops only and laugh at their funny attempt to use ""armor"" to save them.

    Bit of a miss not talking about the push attack differences. The push stab on the VII comes out stupid quick, but obviously not good for hoard clear unlike the middle ground chop of the IV that still hits hard or the very slow sweep on the I.
    Also for the downward chop on the second heavy of the VII you want L H L L H L L H as a combo to get it.

    Mk VII's L1 chains into H2 (overhead) too.
    Mk IV is definitely the overall best due to the on-demand overhead.
    Mk I is still bizarrely underpowered due to lack of heavy overhead. Honestly this one needs some love.
    Personally I've been enjoying my MkVII as crit-focused horde-clear. Shred IV (stacks up to +20% crit chance after 5 chained hits), +25% vs. Infested/Unarmoured, and some of the key Zealot crit stuff (Scourge, Enduring Faith, Fury (abil), Invocation of Death, Blazing Piety (w/ right side sub-talents)).j I also run Savage Sweep for the cleave increase, but I'm honestly curious how Rampage compares in horde-clear situations (certainly Rampage is better for bigger targets, and the way I've built this is absolutely trash for non-horde targets). Last I checked, +cleave blessings performed substantially better in horde situations.

  • @Mach-2-Fishbed
    @Mach-2-Fishbed Před 7 měsíci +2

    My favourite go-to for my Vet crit-revolver build currently. Learning to master the parry isn't the easiest, but once you have it down, it can be a real life saver. Popping 5 ragers with the revolver and using the parry to finish off the rest often lets me hold my ult so I don't need to waste it for a reload. I think the biggest issue most people have though is that, especially in regards to light attacks, it does feel lacking damage wise compared to your other options so they just tend to skip over it.
    In terms of other weapons, I'd like to see a go over of the tac axes. Pre-class rework, I had fallen in love with them on vet as they had offered a higher attack speed that I was more in favour of (personally fell in love with the Atrox Mk VII). IIRC, their special bash attack was really good for stunning enemies as well, including ragers, even dealing decent damage which also helped me love them even more. Haven't really given them a good go after the rework however.

    • @TheWileSpice
      @TheWileSpice  Před 7 měsíci

      Yeah I will say its light attacks aren't really worth using very much at all, the only exception being the light 1/heavy 2 combination on the Mk IV. People often go to the more shiny weapons, Heavy Sword for the zealot is likely. Power sword on the Veteran.
