    A bit of info for ya as someone who has used them a lot, in 90% of situations, full bore + no respite are the blessings ya want on a shotgun. In addtion to this, it should be known that the dragons breath shell on the Kantreal shotgun is devastating vs unyielding, which includes bosses, if multiple dragonsbreath shells are fired one after another to apply as many burn stacks as possible. In addtion to this, the dragons breath shell will perice a bullwarks sheild and apply burn stacks, the bullwark dropping dead after a short time if 3 shells worth of stacks are applied and said shotgun has a unyeilding perk, 2 shells if you are playing zealot and have the purge the unclean talent node in addtion to the damage perk on the weapon itself.

    After playing with these shovels, definitely agree they all need thrust and carapace armor blessing. Flak is a good 2nd perk, but I will also contend that unyielding is a good choice as well. Not just for monstrosity (which is very helpful) but also the other enemy ogryn's. They are technically 1 shots with the alternative pick axe attack but (and depending on your other build and stats) usually only after nearly the maximum charge time. Unyielding damage will just take some of that guess work out of the equation when you're getting overwhelmed and make 1 shots a lot more consistent on enemy ogryns which is great.

  • @AllTheRooks
    @AllTheRooks Před 6 měsíci +1

    I feel like Brutal Momentum is even more necessary for the Mk XIX compared to the other two, and it's because you have no heavy attacks for CC: Brutal Momentum letting you cleave clean through heads and dealing more damage make it way more reliable.
    You do lose toughness regen, but admittedly I think the Mk XIX already pairs super well with the Kickback, and ogryn gun special attacks all register as heavies. So if I need some toughness, I start bashing trash mobs with the kickback, which regens toughness, and builds stacks of Heavy Hitter, which the Mk XIX struggles to build naturally.
    Obviously a melee Kickback doesn't really do a lot of damage, but it knocks things around, keeps you alive, and then builds all your stacks for the Mk XIX, meaning you kinda get the best of both worlds: Mk XIX's excellent duelling ability and faster swing speed than the other shovels, and still decent enough CC. Plus Brutal Momentum still works on the folded shovel attack as well, and I'm surprised at how much use I get out of that. At least once a map, I tend to kill at least 2 ragers in one swing, and when you get patrols of Maulers or Crushers, you can genuinely pretty reliably kill 4 in one swing if you don't let them flank you.

    • @TheWileSpice
      @TheWileSpice Před 6 měsíci +1

      Due to the Mk XIX not really benefitting from Heavy Hitter as much as the other two, I just opt to build the tree differently. Brutal Momentum is very good I agree, but I reckon the average player will struggle with the toughness deficit making Confident Strike more valuable overall, especially since it doesn't lack damage or CC without Brutal Momentum.
      I've also found personally its more valuable to just use the folding attack over the standard heavy attacks most of the time which one shot everything without Heavy Hitter! So building down to Feel No Pain feels natural for the XIX, it also allows people to side-track to point blank barrage for some more build freedom if they wish as well.

    • @AllTheRooks
      @AllTheRooks Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@TheWileSpice I suppose it would depend on what you're using the shovel for. If you're not going for a hardline Skullcrusher melee, get stuck in and stay in build, then 100% I'd go for the toughness regen.
      But I *do* think it benefits a lot from Heavy Hitter as a duelling weapon, as it (combined with BM's headshot bonus damage) lets you hit a number of breakpoints for one-shotting enemies with the normal heavy attacks, which come out much quicker and are a lot safer to use, especially as the folded attack has a lot of recovery comparatively.
      Heavy Hitter also lets you save some talent points (notably on Crunch), and kills a little bit faster. So really all just a matter of preference, but BM is what "unlocked" the weapon's potential for me, or at least how I play.

    Disagree on Thust on the Mark19, Brutal momentum should be the baseline on it shovels, but mark 19 should use Confident strike as it is the best for light attacks non bleed(heavis) builds, you are only using heavis attacks on it for Crushers and Maulers anyways (yes you will need 2/3 hits to kill Crushers and Maulers without Thrust yes but I think that's ok and maximizing light atack sinergy and leaving the Crusher oneshots for the Mark 5 which is made for heavy attacks is the way to go).
    Basically I like the mark19 Shovel as al alternative to Cleaver 3 light attack spamer, which works great on Point Blank style builds or just non heavy attacks builds.
    Good breakdown.

    • @TheWileSpice
      @TheWileSpice Před 6 měsíci +1

      Thats fair. Personally, after having played it without Thrust, the extra time it takes to kill something because you have to hit them 1 or 2 more times equates to a lot of DPS lost due to how slow the Folded heavy attack is for example & it already kills basic units fast enough with light attacks without brutal momentum.
      & it's the heavy targets that are more threatening, so being able to one shot them all is just more valuable imo!

    So, I think you mention in your video that, with the MK V, you need 25% carapace, Crunch talent and Thrust IV to one shot crushers, but I have a 79% damage and first attack (with only 64% penetration) shovel and I can't seem to one shot crushers. I can one shot everything else, just not crushers. I do not have brutal momentum. However, if I follow a build similar to yours (a build I've been using with a power maul) with talents like bonebreaker's aura, I can.
    Am I missing something? Is it possible that it's actually 25% carapace, crunch, thrust IV and, either brutal momentum IV or bonebreaker's aura (a minimum of 10% additional headshot/heavy damage from some other source)? I noticed both your builds incorporate bonebreaker's aura, either way.
    edit: I just checked this with a Mk XIX (77% dmg, 80% first target, 76% penetration) with 25% carapace, crunch, thrust IV and it doesn't one shot crushers. For that matter, it does not one shot a reaper, either. With the build that includes bonebreaker's aura and goes down the left tree, both (Mk V, XIX) will one shot crushers. A build that doesn't have bonecrusher and goes down the middle path has not yielded one shots for me.
    edit2: Ok, some more checking. With my Mk V and XIX, I can not one shot crushers with even 25% carapace, crunch, thrust IV, bonecrusher. It looks like I need heavy hitter as well (which means investing into the far left branch). Bonecrusher + heavy hitter would be a base of 15% more damage on a heavy hit which is the equivalent of brutal momentum weakspot damage.

    Only thing i really dislike about the Mrk3 shovel is the Horde combo. Light attacks just feel so bad on Ogryn because they get 0 buffs from any of the Ogryn talents and generate no temp health unless you are running something like confident strike

    • @TheWileSpice
      @TheWileSpice Před 6 měsíci

      The light attack is pretty integral once you think about it though. When you only use heavy attacks on the Mk V for example, it's so slow it can invite unwanted attacks. Whereas when you use the light attack inbetween it more quickly staggers enemies from attacking you.
      The light attack will also boost your damage if you go with the Hard Knocks talent.

      @@TheWileSpice Hey man, just wanted to say thanks for the content. Only just discovered your channel and I've been watching your Darktide stuff, it's informative and entertaining, especially when you're on Discord with the boys. Keep up what you're doing!

    For the algorithm

    Nah the blue shovel is the clear loser to me. The having stride down regular heavies is pointless when you have the folded heavy attack, so might as well take the sweeping heavies.

      @TheWileSpice Před 6 měsíci

      They're quicker at killing a lot of specialists & shotgunners than the Folded attack, so not entirely wasted.
      The weapon generally works better in different talent tree builds though, so hard to compare it to the others since you need different talents to maximise it.

    Hey man, nice video, but you have a few corrections:
    - Thrust does not add 20% Power in 3x 6.6% Stacks. It adds 60% power in 3x 20% stacks. It is THAT strong. That is why Crunch + Thrust doubles the dmg.
    - Bromentum on XIX is excellent as it allows the light combo, especially on Skullbreaker build, to greatly increase its hordeclear; Especially with vs. Infested added. You really don't need flak as your strikedowns demolish them.
    - Cstrike is fine of course, but since the Strikedowns are very single target oriented and are heavies (as well as special count as) your single target hit 25% toughness regen works well here.
    - In builds you pick UNSTOPPABLE upgrade to Heavy Hitter keystone; Currently this feat does absolutely nothing and is a waste of a point :)

      Thank-you!
      Are you sure Thrust is that strong? It doesn't feel it. It feels like the 'Up to 20%' it mentions on the description.
      BM could be good, but imo because the horde clear is mainly in the light attacks the toughness regen starts lacking due to no talents providing any. & we need Thrust so I strongly believe Confident Strike is the better option because you get it via chaining light attacks. Can't really sustain fighting a horde + ranged things firing at you with the single target heavy attacks/special attack alone, because you won't kill things fast enough.

      Yeah it's x2 damage with thrust and crunch.

    • @FireAnt
      @FireAnt Před 6 měsíci

      Yes I am sure. It is that strong ;) As for Cstrike, it's a comfort option. If your dance moves are good enough shovel lights have pretty hefty stagger to keep horde in check and not pinging your enough to need a Toughness regain every sweep. And if that happens, you can just toss an ocassional heavy to get that regen. It's not that Cstrike is a bad option, but I am in a school of maximum dmg output :D@@TheWileSpice

      Well blame the text description in the game being bad, doesn't invalidate the video or my conclusions at the end of the day.
      & In the Auric board I simply find using other options still lacking. I'd have to see someone use it without Confident Strike in an Auric run and prove they don't take to much damage to believe its a better option. Especially with all the shooters & gunners the game enjoys spawning.
      Even if you were a able to dodge things like the matrix, the average player (which is the majority) is going to play better with confident strike.

    but it doesn't 1 shot everything. what's with the hyperbole and false info?

    • @TheWileSpice
      @TheWileSpice Před 6 měsíci

      For all intents and purposes, it does. It not killing Monstrosities in 1 shot doesn't matter.

    • @sturmmagnunstein1008
      @sturmmagnunstein1008 Před 6 měsíci

      It can quite literally 1 shot everything if built correctly. Yeah cant do it to monstrosity, unfortunately. Oh, and they dont have shit horde killing like the TH. Fs truly hates the TH!
