      Disagree, I like Ian at the monitor and RB swinging. Ian stops swinging to talk and it decreases the swings and data or lengthens the video. I think RB is better at the player / feel side and Ian is better talking through the technology and science (though it’s clear RB is knowledgeable as well).

    I can absolutely tell you stokes gained was measurably improved when I added 10-15 yards to my tee balls early 2022 after a driver switch. Handicap started 2022 at 9.7 finished the year at 4.4. A massive improvement in anyone's books. No lessons, no additional rounds of golf or range work. Simply adding those yards transformed my scoring cuz iron misses were all closer to the greens as I had shorter irons in, which meant up and downs were easier. Well struck irons got closer to pins when my game was on. Goal for 2023 is handicap 2. I'm testing new drivers now as I'm still gaming the original Sim from 2021. Give me even 10 more yards and I will for sure hit 2 cap this year. Awesome channel guys!

    • @justinstephenson9360
      @justinstephenson9360 Před 2 lety +6

      In fairness there are some people who are not shaft sensitive - they hit everything the same, I suspect Crossfield is one of those people. As TXG have said repeatedly over the years, the shaft is simply a timing device and the one thing that humans are very good at is reacting and adjusting when the timing feels slightly off. Give Ian a 100 shots with each driver and I suspect by the end the differences in the drivers would be minimal even if he had to adjust the settings of the head slightly to get what he wanted.
      I am lucky to have a club fitter near to me who is almost as good as TXG. I intend to go there for a new driver in the next 3 months. We will be experimenting with different weights and lengths. Should be interesting

      Have you listened to the interview Matty and Ian did like a year and a half ago with Mark? He did say that shaft does matter but not to the extent that some people thinks it does in his opinion. So he isn’t fully shaft doesn’t matter but is more of a swing and strike are more important than the shaft. I agree with him on this point. A good strike with the “wrong” shaft will produce a better result than and bad strike with the “correct” shaft.

    • @brewssssss_
      @brewssssss_ Před 2 lety +2

      @@tylergrove7700 yea I agree with you but the shaft is a timing mechanism more then anything else. It’s something benefit your swing. The right shaft will help promote a better strike if fit correctly

  • @lawbinson
    @lawbinson Před 2 lety +9

    I’ve also experienced a huge difference in my swing when it comes to shaft weight in irons - more so than Driver.
    Moving to heavier shafts have helped me better save and spend my power in the swing. It also changed my delivery from flippy to a much more ideal position with forward shaft lean.
    With a lighter shaft (which might be different for everyone), I simply can’t load and sequence my swing the same and end up using my arms

    • @Ader03A
      @Ader03A Před 2 lety +2

      Very much had the same findings when switching to a stiffer and heavier shaft in my fairwaywood, while on occasion the lighter once would generate bombs the consistency just wasn't there - often becoming handsy and flip it to a hook. Heavier shafts allows me to synch the swing better, creating awareness where parts are, might loose a few yards on optimal hits but taking that every day if I'm just able to hit 1 more fairway each round.

    • @Alteredgenetic
      @Alteredgenetic Před 2 lety

      For me, it was the opposite of you: went lighter on my irons (I'm +1/2"), and it resulted in no more flipping and a much more ideal impact position. Breathed new life into my irons. Amazing how one solution works for one person, and the opposite solution works for another.
      And this is the perfect example of why it's important for golfers to get fitted, and not base things solely on club/shaft reviews. I'll always see random people post "will this work for me?", and really the answer's always going to be "go get fitted by a good fitter and find out."

      Crazy but I have gone to a 85 gram tour AD-BB in a ping G425 LST from a stock rogue 70x and it really changed for the better, took a noticeable amount of spin off mis hits, timing and loading of the shaft is far easier. This literally just happened to me in a retro fit for my Ping G410 plus. I started off in a 55g shaft. While I got my longest carry with this shaft, I just couldn’t time it and my path got severely in to out. 7* at times 😱. Tbh I wasn’t swinging my best but gradually stepping up through the weights, I ended up in a 70g stiff flex. I was able to neutralised swing path and got dispersion down to 25 yards. I was just able to time the heavier shaft better, It just seemed to engage my muscle memory better. Just shows, Swing speed doesn’t define what weight shaft you should play. Get fitted, speak openly and honestly about your feels and misses, and through knowledge and the process of elimination you will find a combo for you.
    Watching your videos guys really helped me understand what I needed to achieve when I went into my fitting so cheers.
    Lastly to all the haters, focus on the content the channel has to offer. Matty is a big miss yes. But he made his choice and went off to explore new opportunities.

    Yeah, I TOTALLY get the "Video Gamification" of the launch monitor when hitting on a screen.. When I've got fittings before on a launch monitor, I've asked the fitter to turn off the on-screen numbers for things like swing speed, ball speed, distance etc... It helps me stay out of my head if I can't even see the numbers while hitting..

  • @ftball90
    @ftball90 Před 2 lety +1

    Loved this test!!! Most of us spend a lot more time on the range testing on our own than we do with our fitters. My fitter at Club Champion mentioned that most people pay more attention to the numbers than they do what they are actually feeling which I found true during my fittings. Once I started really paying attention to what I was feeling instead of looking for the numbers (I wanted to see) I have no doubt that it made his job much easier. The fitting made a total 180 and we were able to dial my clubs in instead of chasing numbers and my game has drastically improved.

To be honest, I really didn’t even know that I was doing it, my fitter did though! Probably because I was hitting shots that were very “atypical” of my normal misses which ended up being slices, whereas my normal miss on the course is a pull hook. I had no idea why that was happening.

    While most people chase distance with drivers, I have always been about the FiR's, so I have always liked a heavier shaft over a light one. Plus my swing gets wild with a sub-60g shaft. I think more golfers who swing a stiff shaft, probably should try slightly heavier shafts, ie upper-60's to mid-70's.

    One thing i took from this is the fact that a person starts using the bay as a video game and you start changing your swing for different results. Which in hindsite is likely quite natural. Is it perhaps almost better to do a fitting without the screen on for a fitter to get accurate data on a golfer's swing? It might give a more accurate depicting of a golfer's reaction to different equipment and settings. A fitter can always turn it on after coming to a decision on the best equipment fit so that the customer can see the results.

    My only comment is because Ian wasn't looking at the data between shots, they never addressed how low in the head nearly all the strikes were with the lighter shaft. As mentioned, it likely had less droop, and was a solid 10-15mm low, creating higher spin. Right at the end of the second group of shots, Ian hit a few at or above the centerline, and suddenly he had nice draws with sub 2,000rpm spin. Seems like a slightly higher tee position could have been used after a few shots.

    I think a simple rule of thumb would be the player who is long but needs control can go with a heavier shaft and a person who has control but not as long can go lighter. Some pros like Bubba and DJ can add shaft and if it reduces their distance 5 yards but reduces their dispersion by 20yds, its a no brainer. Consistency is key.

    I got fitted for TSi3 when it was released at a big box store in the UK. The more time went on the more I grew tired of hitting it. Just boring. A 60 gram 6.0 RDX black shaft was the fit. I got so fed up with it that I went to GolfClubs4Cash in Edinburgh, and just went through every TM driver they had (Used to own M5 and SIM), putting them down to see what one I liked at address, and as long as it had a stiff shaft and decent grip, all was well. I went over to the Trackman bay place across from it, and hit 14 shots with it. The guy at the big box store said my carry was av 270, and I was like, yeah no bother, nice way to sell a driver, but I was knocking this M3 out to 270. I was having such a ball with it, I couldn't believe it. It has a Speeder 757 Evo tour spec in it. I have no idea what that is, and it defo felt more stiff. Looked up the weight of it, and it's a whopping 78g. A whole 18g more than my RDX black. Now I'm second guessing myself, and wondering how this will go long term. I shouldn't have ever looked up the weight lol - But I could hear the strike, and I felt like it was more pure, more often, whereas my TSi3 tends to stray a bit.

    Funny this should pop up. I recently bought an epic speed and it came with a black tie 75g shaft that I shouldn’t get 3 feet off the ground, I’ve got a handcrafted lz 6.0 60gram shaft that’s at 45.25 playing length so it’s considerably lighter than 60g now and that was meant to be destined for the epic speed head. But out of curiosity I hit the driver with the 75g back tie in and I could launch it well, so well in fact it’s a better launch than my fitted shaft which surprised me not sure on distances yet but seems like there’s not much in it . Accuracy was better and dispersion too. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Those TPT shafts are not cheap. $380 a pop for driver shafts. But the technology they use sounds excellent. I took their online fitting. With my swing speed of 85 if I wanted a heavier shaft and high rather than low trajectory, they recommended a 17 Hi. This weighs 62 grams with 3.9 torque. Interestingly, that is very close to my own Graphite Design Tour AD-IZ 6 stiff shaft that weighs 63 grams with 3.2 torque. Also not cheap shafts but I was lucky and got mine from the pro shop when they changed the fitting cart for just $100. I also have the GD Tour AD-IZ 5 R-1 shaft that weighs 54 grams with 4.5 torque. Supposedly the regular flex lighter shaft is what someone at my age with my swing speed should be using. I have been switching back and forth in PGA Superstore practice bays to check the data. But I think I prefer the heavier shaft and with everything set on standard have fewer shots to the right with it.
