Thank you for a very helpful review. I just received the R40S PRO a couple of days ago. New to the whole experience. My first hurdle was trying to get it to completely shut down through the menu. I can get to the menu where it says to "REALLY SHUT DOWN?" and select YES, but no matter what button I press, it won't shut down. Very frustrating. Holding the power button down does work, but I'm concerned about data loss. Your tip about a USB WiFi dongle is very helpful. All in all, kudos for a great video.
Maybe its called a different model because of the hardware specs? Not because of how it looks. Smh The r40 is a dual core with the 3326 cpu + Mali-G31MP gpu for much better performance vs just the single 3326 cpu. Also has 4gb ram * 2 although im not sure what the r36s had.
Could someone tell me how to reinstall drivers and emulators The SD memory was corrupted and I can't get it to work again just turn on it doesn't even boot
Google "Aeolus UX". That's a community maintained version of ArkOS that's been optimized to better fit the R36S hardware. It even makes the function button work. As far as how to install it onto a new SD card; Joey's Retro Handhelds has a great video tutorial for how to do it on Windows while a Redditor named Manster has a written tutorial on the R36S sub for flashing it with an Android device. It's a very straightforward process. After that's done you'll simply need to drag and drop your ROMs and BIOS files into the proper folders. I hope this helps.
Question: I just bought a R40S Pro and there wasn’t the 256gb memory card that was supposed to come with it, but it does have over 1,000 games, though I imagine the card would have provided me with the other 14,000 claimed. Is this a problem or can I try to download on a new memory card what is currently running the console? I’ve heard this has happened to others buying the R40S Pro.
So you can actually burn a new card and put whatever games you want or you can even take that card out and add whatever games you want. Thanks for pointing this out others who are thinking of buying this should know this
@@deadfred69 gotcha. Thank you. I wasn’t sure if I needed certain files from the card or how to ensure I don’t lose everything on there once I use my new card, possibly bricking the system.
R36S is still the king, no competition below $100 mark. Unfortunately two issues with R36S, you still cant turn of the R36S , you can only put it to sleep and battery dies in a few days and wont turn on, in order to really turn it off you have to go throuhg the menus and turn it completely off, they need to fix that. Also R36S doesnt do HDMI output via USBC to your TV, they need to fix that. Once they fix those two issues the R36S will become the super king.
The knock of industry is really gathering momentum, lol. Just slap a new name on it to cover more market segments. Heard that GPU chips are being replaced now aswell. So you think you are guying a R4090 and actually it is a R3080 Ti chip inside. Gotta be carefull nowadays
yeah man this is a shame but on the chinese message boards lots of consumer rights are being discussed and there's movement to fight back. Hopefully this will shake out and help those really trying (Gameforce etc) but failing versus those just scamming,
It looks like a less comfortable version
I mean its a little more rounded at the bottom but holding it feels the same to me.

Love the video thanks for getting this out. I also bought one of these from Amazon.
Glad it was helpful!
An R36S that can't stand
ARK3.0!??!4GB??!?! WTF
I just want to know one thing, is that 4GB memory fraud data?
Very likely. My R36S has 1GB RAM, according to the box it came in, and this unit uses an R36S board.

Did you locate a copy of the firmware? you can flash another on a new sd card.

If you hold the power button down for a couple seconds it fully shuts down
