  • LINK TO LIGHTHOUSE REFERENCE PHOTO BELOW: Paint this in an hour or less with this lighthouse painting tutorial shown at a semi-slow speed. You'll be able to practice simple drawing, color mixing, and blending with ACRYLIC paint. A great painting to build up your confidence.
I planned to use this painting as the demo painting for the class I am going to teach, but I went over on time by about 10 - 20 minutes. What do you think I can do to simplify it so that the class can take home a lighthouse painting that they make, but it will only take them 30 minutes TOTAL to create. I would love for their painting to include a little bit of the ocean too. Should i have the piece be more abstract? Should I keep it simple and just have the lighthouse? Would love to hear your thoughts and advice!!

As the daughter of a Lighthouse keeper, and a hobby artist myself, I give this painting 10/10! Thank you so much for painting this Nat! If I felt like changing anything, I would have more ocean...a bit less rock. But..that's just me...🙂. I love it!
    God bless! 💙🇨🇦

No way!!! That sounds amazing. As I looked through the pictures, I imagined what it might be like to be a lighthouse keeper. You are so sweet! I am going to do another one next week, I’m hoping it will be larger and more of a seascape. 🌊💕💕

  • @SteveThompsonSurferParadise

I would put a nice surfable wave out front.

Hey! Good painting! I went through the comments.. and yes, I feel the same about the rocks and bigger lighthouse. And you could also shift the lighthouse to either the right or left (I think left would look nice) and just add a few birds to the sky to give an idea of distance. You know, the classic small black ones or white seagulls. Having your subject to the side is more attractive to the eye as it’s at the focal point on the page.
So the rocks and the lighthouse will move to the left and you will have some more place for the water and some place for the birds in the sky. Although you have one more element, I think it should take less than 50 minutes. 😊
You’re a great artist! Stay happy! keep painting! Love your art!

Seagulls would be super cool! I like all of these ideas. I did that on a painting for my son’ room, and it totally made it come to life a little more. Yep, definitely going to do the lighthouse bigger and I like the idea of it being shifted over so it can allow more of the sea to be shown and also you can’t go wrong with using the rule of thirds, would make it more interesting. ☺️ you’re amazing! 💕

Hi Nat. Very relaxing and interesting video. I don't know much about painting, but if the theme is lighthouses, then I would probably want to paint a bigger lighthouse and less landscape/scenery. I strongly believe that the proportions of your painting are perfect, but you'll probably lose a beginner with all the technique it requires. If you let me spread some brown color on a canvas, I'm confident that it will more likely look like a big cow dung than a cliff. But the more I watch your great videos, the more I want to learn to paint. Greetings from Belgium.

Hi Nat! I love your new style intro in the car. Great idea! Also love your light house. It's great you get to teach teenagers or anyone for that matter. Your an awesome artist and they will learn so much from you. Did you say you were doing the photography for a wedding? That is so cool too!

Thank you Rick! Yes, I will be teaching a painting class as a service for the teens in my church for a special conference they’re having in April. There will be other guest teachers, not sure what they’ll be teaching, but I think it will be a great experience, something I haven’t ever done before!
And yes, I mentioned I was doing the wedding reception photography. I used to do wedding and portrait photography, but haven’t done anything with photography really since moving up here. Do you do photography?
Thanks for watching and for your comment 🤗🌊

Sounds great! How would you feel about me having a guest on Nat Paint That? Either a 10 year old girl or 12 year old boy and I can walk them through this new painting idea with just the lighthouse, a Little Rock and grass and a big blue sky.

This was a very well made teaching video. It's a beautiful painting, too

Lighthouses to me are very romantic. Like scene from the movie " a very long engagement" I just love the scene where they were still kids kissing on the top of the lighthouse and only a glass between them. Also Aquamans dad😜 sorry super nerd here. Thise rocks are gorgeous. I dont really subscribe to hyper detail. I think the magic in painting are those brushstrokes that are jumbled together to look like something. Like those waves really feel like waves and those rocks resemble rocks with so little effort. 🤗

Aw! I need to see those movies. The thought of being a lighthouse keeper sounds like a beautiful life to me. Painting, watching the ocean... I would love it. 🥰 thanks for your kind words! I appreciate super-detailed paintings, but I myself don’t have the patience to paint that way 😜😄 I guess personality does factor into the way we create art, doesn’t it?

@@NatPaintThat oh definitely I love seeing them. Last 2018 I enrolled to a class that does Super sculptural paintings, the teacher was a graduate from Florence Academy. Those exercises were killer...bargues and statues. I had to quit midway because thats not how I wanted to paint. Only because of my patience because it takes months or weeks to complete one. I love seeing our instructors works. Its super insane...but I kinda feel I have to follow my heart and want to learn alla prima and optical broken color stuff. Yeah, its a french film starring audrey toutou i think. and jodie foster is in it 😅 Lovely film

Bard Art wow! Sounds so amazing! I would love to take more classes. Sounds like you’re in a position to do that right now, lucky lucky. I can’t wait to see more of your work! Can you do a video of that? Past art pieces and when you did them?
