How to Paint a Weeping Willow Tree

- This painting tutorial was created for the beginner painter. You will have step-by-step instruction on how to paint a weeping willow. I use acrylic paint, but you can also use oil paint for this.

I love this! We had a weeping willow in our yard and my brother and I used to climb and sit on two huge branches. We didn't have water in the yard, just a small concrete spray pool my dad built for us. I found an old photo of our tree and am going to follow your tutorial and my photo to shape the branches. My brother is gone now but he wrote a poem about our willow tree, our time has precious memories for me, we grew as the tree grew. I've only been painting about a year now and am so happy to have found your tutorial, I think I can do this justice. Thank you so much for sharing this tutorial!

Thanks a lot David ☺️🦋 I have always called her my live doll. We live in kind of a rural part of New York, so there is hardly anyone outside when we go places in nature. Lately, I have been able to pick up my groceries without having to get out of the car too.. However, New York has mandated for us to wear masks whenever social distancing is not possible. In New York City especially, social distancing isn’t really possible because everybody lives so close together. What is your area like? Do they require a face masks, etc? I hope you are doing well and being able to stay creative!
@@NatPaintThat Here it's compulsory to wear mask for everyone!!!...I'm stuck with my family inside the house and getting groceries online but sanitazing everything before using!!... keeping my self busy with painting and other stuff😅

Hi Nat! Great instruction and nice willow tree painting too! Your shadowing and highlights on the willows are spot on. I like how you get your inspiration through actual landscapes. I also like to do that. I like your DSLR camera. What model / make is that? I finally broke down and bought my first dslr after all these years. I am still learning manual mode but I think I prefer aperture priority for stills and shutter priority for moving objects such as birds flying, sports, etc. I find it to be a great and fun way to obtain inspiration. I also bring my camera along when I walk my dog. I may just make some videos on that some day. Your daughter is cute. My youngest daughter Arianna is 12 years old just about your daughter's age. It's good to get her interested in photography and art! Your a great mom! Arianna used to paint with me when she was younger but doesn't have as much time now that she is getting up there in age lol! It's also because of technology and video games that keep her busy lately. Well, take care of yourself and family in these trying times. 🙏
Rick J Berube Art Studio That is great that you are getting into photography! I absolutely love it, it makes it so there is always something to do everywhere I go. That would be fun to see a dog walk, I enjoy seeing the nature where people live around the world. I push my kids a lot because otherwise they really just want to sneak around doing screen time all day and it makes me 😜... My older son is 12 years old, and he is a pretty good at singing. Tomorrow I am making him create a song out of his school assignment to post to our family CZcams channel. I’ll grab the link to the video we made together the other year 😄... Rick, I forgot to mention that I shoot with a Canon 6D. If I were still doing wedding photography, I would have upgraded to a Mark three. But without having any kind of income from that, a 6dis just fine for me. How about you?

Yes, Amber definitely has the most interest in art, she is pretty good! I want to see how I can include her more when I create. Most of the time I make art after I put everyone to sleep, night owl painter.
Yeah, weeping willows are kind of spooky and magical and I love them, definitely my favorite tree.

Just discovered your painting channel. I believe the Weeping Willow was done with acrylics and if so did you add water to the paint to help it spread? Thank you.
Hi Marilyn, sorry for the delayed response. Yes, I use water. However, if you are finding that it dries too quickly for you, there are agents you can add to slow down the dry time. I haven’t used them in years, but they exist and can be really helpful if you’re ever working with details. Happy painting 🎨
Where did you get the paints
I usually get mine at Michael’s. Some of the paints may have been purchased from my University’s art supply store. There is also Utrecht and Dick Blick online
