    Like a person, who buys bootleg bionicle i would say: "don't buy knockoff lego because the official stuff is expensive, buy it for what it does (for example: minifigs of Gvenpool, Bionicle (g1 or not))

  • @SO-ym3zs
    @SO-ym3zs Před 6 měsíci +21

    It's not "fake Lego," it's a competing brand, of which there are many, often as good as or better than Lego, often with officially licensed sets, and often much cheaper. Fake Lego sets are the counterfeits pretending to be actual Lego sets.

    • @Nova5041

      Thank you for explaining this to people, people seem to be completely unaware that Lego no longer has a patent on bricks.

    • @SO-ym3zs
      @SO-ym3zs Před 6 měsíci +3

      @@Nova5041 It's weird and sad that there are all these competing brands that people don't know about or lazily and inappropriately dismiss as "fake." Other brands can't copy Lego's 'minifigures. But like you say, Lego doesn't have rights to the whole building brick idea.

    • @jaylow3392
      @jaylow3392 Před měsícem +2

      @@SO-ym3zs it's funny that you wouldn't call them real LEGO; thus, its "fake". The main reason that those competing brands are "fake" because the pieces are not only compatible to genuine LEGO parts, also they are almost identical to LEGO pieces. Even though it is legal to sell clone pieces now, but it doesn't mean these clone brands didn't steal the designs and ideas from LEGO.

    • @SO-ym3zs
      @SO-ym3zs Před měsícem

      @@jaylow3392 There's an important distinction between the counterfeit brands that steal Lego (or MOC) designs (e.g. Lepin) and sell them as their own, and the legit companies that sell Lego-compatible bricks with their own original designs, have their own legit licensing agreements, their own unique pieces, etc. (Cobi, Pantasy, FunWhole, BlueBrixx, MegaConstrux, etc.) Remember that Lego took their idea for interlocking toy bricks from another company in the first place. The brick idea itself is the equivalent of open source material. Other companies like Cobi have later invented their own unique pieces and building techniques based off that original idea.

  • @bricknmotor
    @bricknmotor Před 9 měsíci +8

    Not every locking brick toy out there is fake or knockoff lego. Lego doesnt own the rights to the interlocking design. Anybody can make their own designs and their own products if they want. Lego has copyright to their minifig desing,their own set designs and obviously their own name and logo design. Jesus christ when are people gonna learn this and unstick their heads out of this lego delusion they have. Its like all these lego purest are all for monopolies the way they act.

    Lego has done sliding shoji doors on some Ninjago sets (although those only incorporate the window pane element and not the whole doorframe) and plenty of Star Wars sets have included sliding blast doors (but those are much larger and don't use the specialized door elements). There's probably some Friends or City set that has doors exactly like this but I don't pay that much attention to those themes so I'm not certain

    Like you said you’ve just got to watch out for the companies that steal peoples MOCs. At this point I’ve bought my fair share of cars, motorcycles and mopeds from non-Lego companies and they’ve all been pretty good.

    While the quality of the plastic can differ and isn't always as good, I have no issue with other companies doing their own thing with what we know as LEGO, my issue comes only when they steal official designs and even worse steal fan designs. So if this set really is their own design (albeit it the same rough idea as the LEGO one) then I've no issue with it.

      The whole not Lego=bad thing was mostly because before their legal bariers on bricks lapses was no way to be legaly use the slightly improved bricks lego made way back. That only left those that were willing to settle for the inferior design or be illegal and since they where ilegal why not go further and copy Lego sets 1:1.

      Them using the same brick system kund of is a mokt point honestly since Legos copyright on those has ran out and hence is open for anyines use. Lego might have made it popular

      @@Movietuff yeah they have the same friction as normal bricks and a very close feel. They don’t feel cheap or like a mega blok quality. And they fit very well with real LEGO. Only downside I find is the minifigs are usually pretty bad. Especially if they have new molds or prints. And any MOCs that they sell are usually not great at staying together as some technic pieces don’t have the right “lock”. I avoid new sets. Mostly I’ve only bought retired sets that are insanely expensive now. Another positive is the dark red/brown bricks don’t snap so my UCS Slave 1 didn’t have that problem
