  • This machine was inspired by watching a randomly shaped object bouncing off the surface of a slow moving, reciprocating and irregularly shaped piston head on the moon. Of course anything is possible in the virtual world of the computer.
The doll house chair seems to be the perfect object to bounce nearly weightlessly over the unsuspecting cat. In this machine, the chair is passive and all motion is due to interference by the cat. The large disk at the back serves to both counterbalance the arm and give more mass to the chair itself. The motion of the chair is complex and will never repeat.
Margot Clark was my wonderful and inspiring art history teacher at the University of New Hampshire. When she passed away she left a houseful of cats.

This particular machine really made me smile. Not just because of the cat, but just how weightless that little chair seems to be; it makes me think of a beach ball.

That is the most chill cat. Just sitting there, not giving a damn about the chair bouncing around it.

Hi, I saw your works displayed in MIT museum! I am soooo obsessed with these cute interesting installations since I watched your videos, and it was really a big surprise to see it in MIT. All your designs are amazing!

Arthur - Having studied under Margot and then becoming her friend, I can say with certainty that her eyes would light up and she would clasp her hands in front of her if she were to see this. What a great, great tribute to her. Thank you.

Absolutely wonderful. As a computer games programmer I have spent hours watching virtual rigid bodies and how they collide and interact through laws of motion and gravity. This sculpture very nicely captures the beauty of this in an abstract and surreal way

Just would not be the same if it were not a cat. It seems like exactly the sort of thing to involve a cat. This is my favourite.

It just balances out most of the weight (it still falls) of the chair so that it's almost 'weightless'.

@bigbookofnothing I would love the see the doll house wall behind the chair with wallpaper and pictures in dark brown frames and a cuckoo clock. moving with the cat on the carpet.

All of these machines are incredibly dumb. But this one was interesting, but still, pointless.
