- 022 This week, we are on our way back to France to open our little stonehouse. We find a few surprise guests (Spiders, and Stink bugs) but the house is in really great condition and we are grateful to be back.
Thanks again for watching,
Michael and April
Description of Us:
We are a couple of American Francophiles who have come to truly appreciate so many things about French culture. We love the food, wine, art, and history of France, but especially the people we have met along the way. Join us as we make our dream of living in France a reality. Follow us as we explore the French living and a new life there with our beloved dog, Bernice. We enjoy learning about stone house renovation, wine, cooking, brocante shopping, and the French community we are now a part of.
As someone who had a house in rural France for many years - including four when we were there full time - nothing beats arriving after a long journey, opening up the house, and relaxing...
Agreed! It really is nice to have our own place in France. Thanks for watching :)
I absolutely love your house and thank you for sharing this video I thoroughly enjoyed watching you open your home up on your return
Thank you so much!
I love the width of your wood stove, it almost looks oval which gives room for an expansive view of the fire, my favorite way to spend a chilly evening!
It is oval in shape. The glass has some sort of air-screen effect. Hopefully it will stay clear. Thanks for watching. :)
Thank you for sharing your journey and including your little dog! Precious! Beautiful house and I wish you many happy times in France! Congratulations!
You’re very welcome. Thanks for watching.!😁
Also, have you seen Bernice’s CZcams channel? It’s called Bernice life. I haven’t posted much since we’ve been here in France but there is a ton of content and I will post more once we get back to California…😁
Bon retour en France. Ici en Charente nous avons un ciel gris mais le temps est doux, hier nous avions un magnifique soleil. Profitez de votre jolie maison et du jardin et faites de belles balades avec Bernice. Welcome back to France. Here in Charente we have gray skies but the weather is mild, yesterday we had beautiful sunshine. Enjoy your lovely home and garden and take some nice walks with Bernice.
Oui, la journée d'hier était belle ! Aujourd'hui, il y a du vent et le ciel est gris. Quoi qu'il en soit, c'est agréable d'être de retour.
Congrats on making it safely back to France. I'm admittedly jealous. Leaving the US (with no plans to return) to live in rural France sounds sublime. Someday...
We are slowly trying to figure it (moving to France) out… 😁 so far it’s been wonderful.
what a long trek! you are troopers. Congrats on such a sweet place. I hope you have many happy times! Enjoy
A little longer than usual. …we got cheap tickets… 🙃🙄
Lovely vlog & good to see no major problems have occurred your absence. I suspect the spider might have been a bit miffed at having to move on!!☺️
They were keeping the flies at bay for sure! Hopefully now enjoying the wild outdoors. 😁
It’s so comforting to see you take the exact same trip I do, except I get exit A-10 at Poitiers Sud!! Leaving Paris and driving south, and (usually) seeing the weather change from dreary to beautiful is amazing. One tip, before leaving, put clean sheets and beddings and pillows and duvets (even towels) in space bags (you can also buy them in France at large grocer stores), there’s nothing better than arriving home after a long trip, making a fresh bed and jumping in it and everything smells delicious! It also saves room in the Armoires/closets. Good idea with the dehumidifier, having one in each room is a must!
Good idea, we have plastic bins we use to keep critters out. Regarding traveling from Paris, we’re going to try and start taking the TVG from Paris to Poitier and renting the car in Poitier. There is a TVG direct to CDG. Thanks for watching😁
@@FrenchStoneHouseLife That’s wonderful. I hope you post that CDG - Poitiers via the TGV adventure and any tips. I’ve been contemplating taking the train too.
Top vid.we returned to Indre-et-Loire at the back end of march. The flooding was devastating in areas around us .
Anglin sur Angling the river I would say rose about 18 feet above its normal level.
We are returning later in the year for about 9 weeks.and are going to explore big time .
Yes, lots of flooding we are so happy our little stone house is on the top of a hill. :)
I really enjoy your videos and the way you incorporate the surrounding area and life of the locals. It brings back a lot of memories from the time we spent traveling in France.
Thanks! We’re trying…😁
Welcome back.....enjoy!...Ill be back at mine(Eguzon-Chantome)...during May if not April
Thank you 😊
This was so much fun for me to watch. We have a stone house in Portugal and I'm going next week to open it up for spring as well. What little critters will be waiting for me? Best wishes and have fun!
Lots of guests keeping house while we're away... :)
You need 2 metal fans on your fire. They work by convection and are designed to blow the heat into the room instead of up the chimney, they're usually small, put one on each side as its a big fire 😊
Thanks for the tip! Good idea. 😁
The fans are on Amazon for from $30 up.
So exciting to see you guys back in France, looking forward to seeing more adventures.
Thanks. We’re hoping to keep sharing the adventures. 😁
This way you will arrive to a warm and clean residence, it will made life so much easier!
Nos voisins ont proposé d'ouvrir la maison avant notre arrivée. Nous n’avons tout simplement pas accepté leur offre. De plus, nous apprécions en quelque sorte toute l’expérience.
The roads look like Indiana from north to south out in the country
I kept expecting to see Amish buggies
Interesting. Yeah, there are lots of similarities to different area in the US. Thanks for watching.
Your house and grounds are lovely! Welcome home!❤
Thank you!! 😊
Love your house❤ and your journey forward on this adventure!
Thank you!! 😊
Thank you for sharing your adventure.
We also have fond memories of traveling in the Normandie area.
Wishing you all the best from Western Australia.
Our pleasure! Thanks!😊
Love your home & back yard!
Thank you
Cool house,I got the feeling that if a wee furry creature had to run across the floor when ye 2 entered both of you would have ran😂😂
Yes, most likely…
Welcome Home
Thank you
You need screen doors and screens for the widows
Yes we do😁
I hope you thanked that spider for all the work it did while you were away…cuz that was a big spider and it takes a lot of work to hunt those bugs….and there seem to be a good amount of work there to keep him busy..😂
I am just saying….he did do you many favors while you were away…could you imagine how many more bugs you would have had if that big spider was not staying at your place….😂
So I hope you evicted him gently…I hope…❤
Gently out into the wild... They will be back. I'm sure. :)
@@FrenchStoneHouseLife hard workers they are…🙏
Love your house . Did you find it stateside on a website or did you work with a local realtor ?
A little of both. Mostly just plain luck.
Do you somehow time your arrivals/departures to CDG to avoid the unbelievable traffic getting in/out of Paris? If so, please share! It seems you get to the Limoges area much more quickly than expected given traffic around Paris.
Oh no, we’ve been stuck in Paris traffic many times. 🫤 when we know we have an early departure we find a hotel near CDG. 😁
I have found that the key to beating the Paris traffic is to depart the U.S. on Saturday so you can arrive on a Sunday. There are less trucks on the road and hardly any commuters. Otherwise, you just try to arrive early and get on the autoroute ASAP and avoid driving on the périphérique extérieur where all the ports are. I try to always follow the signs to Bordeaux and stay left. I never remember until I see it, but sometimes I do miss it. I do the same thing for departing, leaving on a Sunday is great, but Mon-Wed are okay if you leave the house by 8am or so, and arrive at CDG before lunch traffic. You want to time it so you miss both the morning commuting & lunch traffic.
That back yard is screaming for a patio for outdoor eating and some areas to nap and lounge.
Yes, I’m trying to figure out how big of a terrace we’d like. Not sure if it’s this year or next…😁
Où habitez vous aux États unis ?
I think they're Californian.
We live in Sacramento, California. 😁
Need to go slow with handling the video…kind of making us dizzy with such rapid movements…thanks
Agreed, we were fairly new to this vlogging stuff. Some of our more recent videos are better. Thanks for watching.
What a small, dark, depressing place. It would require counseling for any time spent there.
Lucky for us… we love it!
Please don't bastardize the French names....I want to scream! Learn how to say them properly or don't say them at ALL!!
Americans 🙄
Ha! Yeah, it’s kind of funny. When we say the name correctly while speaking english, english speakers are like what is that? Haha! Maybe I’ll do an episode in French…. And really confuse everyone. Even French speakers…😂
Your house is lovely. I’d be reluctant to ever leave.
Somebody needs to learn some manners, and it’s not Michael and April. I would politely suggest you just stop watching if it’s affecting you so badly.
