- Dramatisation of the love affair between Sidney James and Barbara Windsor, played out against the backdrop of the 'Carry On' films during the 1960s and 1970s. - IMDb
... Wonderful cast including Geoffrey Hutchings as Sid James, Samantha Spiro as Barbara Windsor and Adam Godley as Kenneth Williams.
... In 10 parts, unfortunately. :-(
"What's the bloody point!" - very last line of Kenny's diary!
I remember that final scene with Barbara Windsor so distinctly from when it was originally aired that it shocked me to find out I would have only been five. A testament to how powerful and well-made a drama this is.
A very moving film and great to see the lovely Barbara Windsor at the end. Always loved the Carry On films and loved Barbara and Joan and Hattie. Very sad that Barbara is ill. A rare treasure - a great actress and a very nice lady.
Good to see old Windsor Davies, another Carry On actor.
He was in TWO films and ONE compilation program made for T.V! out of THIRTY ONE movies! Three of worst! Carry on England,Carry on Behind and That’s Carry On,all garbage.
Keneth Williams he was NOT🤮
I got a complete shock when I realised Barbara Windsor was suddenly on screen also Some of Kenneth williams lines were so beautiful that I really hope he really said them.
The switch to the real Babs is stunning, truly great piece this
Thanks for the upload. Brilliant drama. Really enjoyed it. RIP all those now at a better place.
So quick and peacefully it seemed when sid james past away it was so quick he didn't even cry for help how fast your life can be taken away that's way they say you should make the most of every day as I say that iam sat depressed finding things to watch on you tube to make the days go quicker and before I know it my time will be up how very sad :-(
Hi Jay I had a bereavement two years ago and every day is difficult. I am like you watching this channel and reminiscing about times gone by. I try to make a difference to someone I have never met and doing good things gets me through.
First sorry for your loss i lost both my parents at a young age i was only 20, and my mother was just 50, and my father not to long after it doesn't get any easier as time goes on it always hurts the same but some days its a little bit better than others i think its great aptitude you have to do nice things for people you sound a very nice person and it can rub of on people having a outlook like yours and just replying to my comment is another nice thing you have done so thank you and take care
The moment the real Barbara Windsor comes on the screen is amazing. I would love to meet her, she is a star
Absolutely marvellous!
Thanks so much for uploading the entire drama, it's been a treat to watch.
The Carry On stars gave such wonderful to see them as the 'behind the scenes' individuals they were.
It makes me sad that some of the stars led such unhappy lives :-(
And I completely agree with Adam Godley's portrayal of Kenny. I hope that even Kenny himself would be proud of his portrayal.
Hopefully the Carry On's will never be forgotten.
An EXCELLENT drama. The actors doing Sid, Barbara, Charles, Kenneth, Bernard and joan are SO uncanny like them. REST IN PEACE Sid, Charles, Joan, Kenneth and Bernard. AND Rest in peace Geoffrey Hutchings that did Sid in this drama
Lovely innit - all the better if you read Williams' diaries and then go back and watch this again.
i know that a lot has been said about sid and kenny's hatred for each other but i do genuinely believe that even kenny had to have been upset when sid died
Considering that Windsor has been diagnosed with Dementia herself, the ending is heartbreaking and harsher in hindsight--she probably doesn't remember Kenneth or Sidney or anyone else by now, and she is dying...
Fantastic, spot on, bravo! They could have made a Carry On film with this cast, they were that good. Rarely do filmmakers get casting, script and everything exactly right but they did so here!
i'm surprised that they actually made reference to that. for a film that fictionalises well known events, they sure know how to keep the personal lives of the characters accurate. Like, Sid James' relationship with Hancock, Kenneth's diaries, Charles H's drinking....i can't believe how much research was done to bring to life famous celebrities.
Wonderful and touching with added nostalgia.
Great acting from all concerned in this drama but the addition of the real Barbara Windsor at the end was great and the best acting I have ever seen from her.
Superbly casted and beautifully played by everyone. What a terrific dramatisation - funny and moving. :'-)
Very well made production, superbly acted and poignant. Thanks for the upload.
I can hear Bab’s /Peggy shouting to God “ Get Out Of My Heaven!!!!” 😂💯💎💯💎❤️ “Carry On “:Angel , we love you so much , and we’re all crying darling . Life won’t be the same without you Dame Barbara . Today, Friday 11 TH December 2020 , the world lost a true legend .
Here’s my dedication to you sweetheart 🌹❤️🙏🏻💯⭐️👍
Near a shady wall a rose once grew,
Budded and blossomed in God's free light,
Watered and fed by the morning dew,
Shedding it's sweetness day and night.
As it grew and blossomed fair and tall,
Slowly rising to loftier height,
It came to a crevice in the wall
Through which there shone a beam of light.
Onward it crept with added strength
With never a thought of fear or pride,
It followed the light through the crevice's length
And unfolded itself on the other side.
The light, the dew, the broadening view
Were found the same as they were before,
And it lost itself in beauties new,
Breathing it's fragrance more and more.
Shall claim of death cause us to grieve
And make our courage faint and fall?
Nay! Let us faith and hope receive--
The rose still grows beyond the wall,
Scattering fragrance far and wide
Just as it did in days of yore,
Just as it did on the other side,
Just as it will forever-more.
Dame Barbara Windsor, DBE , born Barbara Ann Deeks; 6 August 1937 - 10 December 2020
May She Rest In Peace Eternal 🙏🏻❤️👍
Rest In Peace Geoffrey & Sid
Thank you for this. Wonderful acting.
Joan Simms Had a bad time too. Always felt she was let down in life. Beautiful woman
Jesus the ending is heart wrenching, especially considering that now Barbara Windsor has been diagnosed with dementia and she’ll forget all about Kenneth by then...sob.
Thankyou for uploading, love this programme
Wow!! Wasn't expecting the real babs to show up!!!
If you watch Barbara Windsor's interview with Piers Morgan there are numerous errors in this. She said they had their affair around the Carry On Laughter tour, not the films etc. Mind you, the main reason for commenting is to thank you for this. It was fantabulosa! Everyone was quite brilliant.
Terry Johnson explained that the character of 'Bernard Bresslaw' in this fictional film is a mixture of Bernard Cribbins, Bernard Bresslaw and Terry Scott, for sake of continuity. It wasn't a mistake, it was a deliberate decision as changing actors constantly through the film would have made no difference to the overall story and fidelity to real events was not the point of the film. This is a fictional retelling of real events, and not intended to be a real portrayal.
Barbara must of felt like it was really Kenny alongside her
She most probably did. He did an excellent job.
I hope they met again when Barbara passed.
@@anthonypoole6417 no doubt he did
absolutely lovely. saw this on tv 10 years ago Thanks for the upload
Thank you, I saw it on TV and was looking for an example for a friend on my Facebook list. I posted this part. I don't know if it ever made it to DVD but thank you so much for uploading. Bless you xx
Lots of sadness with these comedians that makes us laugh, they are often tortured souls like Sid James, Kenneth Williams, Benny Hill and Robin Williams.
I love Barbara's vision of Heaven...
It hits harder now that we know she has Dementia....she’ll forget about Kenneth and the others some time.
i love how it changed to the real Barbara Windsor, so sad,
thanks for uploading it =D
Yeah, by then she had lost both Sid and Kenny :(
It happens to me all the time lol
Whomever did the casting was spot on; especially with Sid.
moving.
many thanks for posting.
Thanks so much for posting. This is so brilliant.
Barbara Windsor Windsor legend. Xxx
thanks for uploading all ten parts
Nice little cameo for Windsor Davies there. Pity he didn't appear in the Carry Ons earlier really
R.I.P. BABS.....
I like Barbara Windsor's heaven.
The way she walks
love the change over
I really enjoyed that Barbara Windsor is a true east end girl and that is something to be proud of
Aw no that is so sad. I used to find Carry On hilarious but now all I can do is feel sorry for everyone. I can't belive they fired Charlie :(
Tears of thanks :-)
i love all the carry on flims i was sad to find out most of the carry on flim stars private life were not so happy. they always made me laugh.
The last 5 mins of the film are so........gulp!
After watching this i wont look at the carry on films in the same way.I felt so sorry for sid.
Great seeing this again - the last time was when it was first shown on TV. Would have loved seeing how the other main Carry On stars would have been portrayed - the ones for Babs, Sid (although a little curious about the accent), Joan Sims and Ken W (although looking a bit too tall) were practically spot-on. I agree with the comment that Adam Godley should have got a BAFTA for that, it was best I've seen.
First class. Funny and so sad.
a true homage, liked steve as dear Bernie! although the sadness of kenny reminds me of myself!
also adam godley deserved a bafta for his portrayal as kenny it was the best ive ever seen
Very good programme and the Kenny Williams actor is brilliant! Try out Fantabulosa if you haven't watched it yet. It's the life of Kenneth Wiliams.
I hope barbara's heaven is true
Thank you. I loved that.
Brilliant film, thanks.
There was me thinking the portral of Barbara Windsor was good... at the end it IS her. :-)
There are many, many factual inaccuracies in the film, but all were done deliberately by Terry Johnson, the writer and director, and were mainly artistic licence or for comic effect. The producers were also banned from using the words 'Carry On...' or using any lines from the films, so the films were just called 'Spying', 'Camping' etc.. and the 'Carry On London' stage show became 'London Laughing.' Even 'The Mating Game' was changed with 'The Mating Season.' All down to copyright issues.
fantastic
Has any one else noticed? the REAL Barbara Winsdor's in then last bit
Oh what's the bloody point?
Those were the last words Kenny Williams put in his diary in 1988, just before he took an overdose. By then he was in constant excrutiating pain from his back and stomach, his career was a sad parody of what it had been and his much loved mother was becoming senile. As other posters have pointed out, the cast of the Carry Ons, behind the bawdiness and laughs, were often very lonely, unhappy people.
"Oh, whats the bloody point?" The last sentence in Kenneth Williams's diary, the night he committed suicide.
It was a accidental death.
@@lauraplume9952 That's not definite.
We'll never know. But someone writing those last words in their diary "what's the point" and the fact he was in excruciating pain, also he had spoken about suicide in interviews, also written about it in his diary. It is likely that he took his own life to end the pain he was in and he knew what he was doing being the intelligent man that he was.
i like babs windsor, i think she is a brill actress, i loved her in the carry on films
Blimey it's the Sgt Major!
thanks
@Mousepie999 to be fair, he ended his diary in that way a few times, and discussed suicide even more. I personally don't think he did commit suicide. If he was going to have done that he would have taken a LOT more than he did. Plus I personally don't think he would have done it whilst his mother Louie was still alive.
Weren't the actors really true to life? I quite forgot I wasn't watching Barbara Windsor. It really spoils a film when the actors are nothing like the people they are supposed to be. The Linda McCartney story springs to mind
@Loopyloualways i have but im sorry i dont think that there is any comparison
he sure does. adam godley deserves much greater acclaim. he's such an ignored actor!
Great til the end scenes. They shouldn't have changed the actress for Barbara Windsor. She was good in the Carry On's but she can't really act. That spoiled it.
@thenewmodfather u need to watch michael sheen as kenny
What is the bloody point?!
kenny killed himself ?
