  • Sorry for my mouth non stop talking.. I have been told I talk to much so forgive me! I hope this video helps others learn something and most importantly save some 💰
    Also the ending when I’m in the car I don’t know why the video started getting glitchy! Also when it looked like the audio button was pressed on its own it did not lol it was me touching it while swiping my hand around. This fix 100% worked with no reaming issues of ghost touching and or anything! It fixed the stereo 100%

    I just repaired the radio today in my Dodge Ram today without removing the radio from the vehicle. The easiest way to remove the digitizer from the display is to use a piece of fishing line. First remove the metal cover, and then you can start on the top left edge and gently work the fishing line down through the display slowing sawing through the glue. Just be careful at the bottom center of the digitizer as that is where the connection is. Use Isopropyl Alcohol to clean up the glue, which is by far the longest part of this process. After everything is cleaned up, I used some clear double sided gorilla tape around the edge of the digitizer and cut of any excess tape. Once all four sides are taped up, remove the protective coating on the tape and attach the digitizer to the screen.

    • @jrudny8606
      @jrudny8606 Před 4 dny

      Hoping you can help me understand what the purpose of the double sided gorilla tape is for? Seems like the black outer frame / casing would hold the digitizer in place. Let me know if that step is necessary as it is not mentioned in the original video. Thank you in advance!

    I just finished removing goo on my Uconnect 8.4 on my 2018 Ram and thanks to you and a couple other great CZcams videos it appears to have worked, I have a functioning radio now. BIG THANK YUO. Took me around 4 hours. My RAM has a middle console so I needed to remove 3 screws to slightly move it out of the way to remove front panel to get to radio. Getting rid of goo was very troublesome, I used a mixed of Goo Gone combined with alcohol and then rubbed it in circular motions. I made sure to give it a final cleanup with alcohol only. Dealer had quoted me $1,200 approx.

    I’ve been holding out on fixing mine because I haven’t been able to justify to myself spending $1500 just for convenience but maaaaan I’m so pumped right now after watching your video! I thought I was a rarity with the ghost touching. Got so sick of my car calling people on it’s own…had my ex thinking I wanted to get back with her 😂😂, I had to disconnect all devices and couldn’t use it unless I plugged something in through the USB and then had to keep the screen on “controls”…nothing like having your heated seats turn on when it’s 100 degrees outside just so you can listen to some music lol.
    Thanks for the video though, made my day!

    Thank you so much for this, man. My fiancé's Jeep Cherokee has been going absolutely nuts with the ghost touching to the point you had to just cut the screen off. No radio, no climate controls, nothing. I watched your videos and read just about every comment and got the nerve up to try this myself. Especially after researching radio replacement and/or repairing costs, it was a no brainer to give it shot.
    It was a long, tedious process but as long as you take your time, it can be done. The digitizer and screen were both covered in the glue so I had to clean both. I used double sided Gorilla tape cut in thin strips to "replace" the glue around the digitizer. I could probably replace to digitizer just because it has a bit of a hazy look to it now and I rubbed a little too hard on one portion of the screen so it looks a little red when it is turned off. But when the unit is on, the hazy digitizer and the red portion of the screen are hardly noticeable. It's been over two weeks since I repaired it and have not had any problems at all.
    You have not only saved me quite a bit of money but possibly saved my relationship as we had a five hour drive together in her Jeep just a couple days following the repair! It has worked flawlessly since.
    Thanks again and have a merry Christmas!

      Hey man when using the double sided gorilla tape is there a noticeable gap? When placing the parts back is it easy to “tap” or do you have to press hard a bit if there’s a gap between the digitizer and the screen with the double sided gorilla tape?

    • @TheHandsOnGang561
      @TheHandsOnGang561  Před 3 lety +2

      Obviously this is a method you would be doing at you’re own risk. They use a glue inbetween the digitizer and the lcd screen and once that starts leaking from between them that’s when all he’ll brakes loose.
      I’m assuming you need a new digitizer or.. try cleaning the male end of the connector and the female end.. a little bit of that glue gets in there and I would assume you could lose complete function of the touch portion of your radio
      I’m sorry your first shot at it didn’t go so well. Either way if your faced with spending upwards of a $1000 bucks, I would like to think this is worth a shot for next to nothing! I haven’t had any issues since this video with my touch screen

    Just watched your video this morning and I am done doing all the steps this afternoon with no problems with my 2018 Chrysler 300 head unit it is working fine now.. So the grease I think the reason it is there is a protective layer for the head unit. What I mean by this is if you live in a area with heat and humidity, the space between the head unit and the digitizer water cold form on those hot days in that space and then the water would fall into the head unit and in time rust or short it out. Same thing if you live in an area that is cold the water in the air could freeze then melt causing water damage to the head unit. But i think this would take time ..I hope a long time years..

      Exactly what I was thinking about to. Very good idea I think it’s worth a shot, once getting rid of the nasty glue maybe a iPad type screen protector inbetween the digi and lcd screen would really help it out. The digitizers they use on these radios are overly sensitive and not rated or created for much more then optimal perfect conditions.

      I believe that individual little black wire that kinda clips/plugs in it the antenna ? Don’t quote me on that, if it is the antenna then the only thing is ur radio won’t be able to pickup stations. You might be able to glue it with some crazy glue depending on how it broke. You only want the glue around it while pushing it down not under it, just around the edges and it should be fine.

Once the glue starts leaking from the unit it makes the unit go nuts! Thanks so much for this video! I bought my Charger used in February of this past year, and now i'm getting the beginning signs of the bubbling in the upper left hand corner. I'm trying to figure out if i should attempt this during the summer or wait until it gets cooler out. Right now i don't have any ghost touches luckily, just the bubble at the moment. My one question is that if i just put the adhesive around the sides where the black border is, i would assume the digitizer would rest against the screen. Is that a problem? I had read elsewhere that they shouldn't physically touch. I guess if using double sided tape would lift it up higher, but then i could see the digitizer getting bent towards the screen with touches.
    I'm also trying to find the right digitzer for my radio which has the same ribbon cable as yours (just in case), but i can only find 1 on ebay for $138. Have you had any luck finding the one for yours?

    • @TheHandsOnGang561
      @TheHandsOnGang561  Před 3 lety +1

      You’ve brought up some great questions, Me personally I didn’t touch my stereo until it started ghost touching and literally just going bananas, I’d have to drive around with the radio off the whole time cause it was so bad, couldn’t listen to music or anything.
      My opinion I wouldn’t touch ur setup until it starts effecting it’s operation/performance if you know what I mean, the bubble is a eye sore for sure. So the black border actually keeps the digi at a distance automatically it never touches the screen, but you are correct if I were to press hard enough on my digi it does in fact bend and touch the lcd screen but the digit is stronger then you think it takes a pretty firm press to get it to flex to that point.
      When put back together after removing the gel it sits in the exact spot it did from factory minus the glue inbetween. I did not buy a new digi because as you were saying they are kinda hard to find that exact model with the 2 big ribbon cables like that.

Either way, I'll eventually be doing this method. So thanks for figuring this all out!

You might be right tho i said that same thing a few weeks ago to someone else’s comment that the glue is what dissipates the heat somehow ? And once their is a air bubble in between the screen n digi it creates a sorta hot spot which then causes the ghost touching ? I also heard they might use the glue for glare purposes.. once we find these answers we can set off and make the radio perfect without giving away a ton of money in the process, ya know.

    I was pumped after seeing this video as well. I am writing this because I am in the same situation as all of you and it's not good. I have already replaced the LCD unit (digitizer glass installed) twice due to this problem. I bought both of them from Factory Radio Repairs. The first one delaminated within 2 weeks and they exchanged it. Cost me $460 and the worry of taking the trim on and off since the clips have a tendency to break. Got the second one and it was even worse. It delaminated within a few days. They refused to cover replacement. Said they didn't cover that because it was a manufacturer's defect. Now they sell that for $690. Buyer beware. This is a HUGE problem that Dodge refuses to address. Seats start to heat on their own, attempted SOS calls, buttons all over the place. In my mind, this is a dangerous situation. So now I have the old unit that's delaminated and the new unit that is delaminated. So I do exactly what The Hands On Gang does, get it all cleaned up, looks great, and reinstall it. No luck, unfortunately. Does the same thing and worse I think. What a mess to pay so much for a really nice car to have this problem. Good luck to the rest of you. We need a class action lawsuit is what we need. Now I'm trying to figure out if the digitizer glass was bad on both units or what??

My rear shade would go up and down, air would kick on and go full balls, then shut off, and then turn right back on, radio would just start calling people, so on it’s just a total nightmare and nobody wants to be held responsible they want to put it on the consumer! It’s sad. Ur not the first person to spend all that money, end up with 2 radio and still be in the same boat and out 100s of dollars. Sorry this trick didn’t help ya brother. 🤙🏼

      @The Hands On Gang - UPDATE!! It worked! Thanks, guys. My wife told me a day after I had done the work that the radio was working great. I wanted to wait at least a week before reporting back that the technique was successful! I can only figure that the acetone, alcohol, and Sprayway glass cleaner must have finally completely out-gassed leaving a minute air gap between the LCD and the digitizer glass. No ghosting, no changing stations, no on/off heated seats (thank goodness), and no SOS attempted calls. Just normal operation.
      Since I fixed the original, now I have the new one that I bought, LCD display and digitizer screen leftover, sitting in a box. It still needs to be cleaned. If someone needs it and wants to clean it up I would gladly sell it for half of what I paid for it. Other than that I'll keep it as a spare.

    I asked one tech at local fca dealership about this issue as my car (18 hellcat) just started having bubbles, mine is under warranty and i can get it replaced, but the problem is once my warranty expires and the replacement one starts to have this same issue. so he said its because of these units getting hot as they have no fans in there, the adhesive starts to dry off or shrink.
    one solution(not a proper solution tho) he recommended is to drill 2 small holes in your ac duct so that it can circulate air through the unit.

      @@Silenced_by_nazi_youtube yes. I wound up just using the original digitizer, what happens is the Clear gel/glue you see in the video’ once the screen I presume reaches a certain temperature it melts n breaks away from in between the screen n the digitizer and starts leaking out of the bottom of the radio, once that uneven pressure so to speak between the screen n tizer starts to happen “hence” when you start to notice a bubble, “it’s leaking” that’s when the digitizer starts getting thrown off and ghost touching occurs. The digitizer might just be over sensitive and reacts like that once it occurs. I was under the impression that the gel was there just to keep out glare from the sun, might be there to act as a barrier to dissipate heat in some way ?? I duno. I tried this and I think in the process I cracked my actual screen. Now I’m big sad because I placed it back, and I got no more ghost touching, but I can’t even see the screen anymore 😂😂
