How to Fix Delaminating Dodge Chrysler Ram 8.4 UConnect TouchScreen

- In this video I will be showing how to remove your 8.4" UConnect system to repair a delaminating screen. This fix will work on all Dodge, Chrysler, Ram trucks that have the 8.4" UConnect system. The bubble formed by the adhesive breaking down can cause your Infotainment system to start randomly "ghost" pushing buttons, which is annoying at least, at most can be dangerous...my system actually started making random phone calls and changing settings such as the climate controls....

I can’t believe this isn’t a recall. This is happening to both my Ram and our Jeep. What BS.

And I ask every time I have a service done and they say no! SMDH
2018 Durango owner here - same problem. Done with stelantis.
Jeep compass 2018 here doing the same thing
@AP-lh1bq what is stelantis?
THANK YOU!!! I tried for months to get FCA to cover the cost of replacing my '18 Grand Cherokee's delaminated display and they wouldn't help. The dealership told me it would cost around $1,000. So I gave your fix a shot. It was really not that difficult of a process and it works perfectly! Finally, I have my display back and can actually play music and use the GPS in my car without the screen changing the settings constantly. It really works just as good as it did before. Note for others: I let mine sit in the sun for a while to warm up the glue. That plus a ton of Isopropyl Alcohol and paper towel made quick work of the glue. Took me maybe 45 minutes from start to finish.
Glad it helped!
Ive had this issue on my 2017 charger scatpack for over a year now. I watched your walk-through back then and just dealt with it since it wasn't too bad back then. Fast forward to today, the phantom touches were absolutely unbearable. I had to keep the display turned off at all times. I built up the courage to tackle the issue on my own after watching this video a half a dozen times. All I had to buy was some trim removal tools. I ended up using my wife's hair dryer to heat the glue up and use some fishing line to remove the touch screen from the digitizer, and that was a very easy process...I was surprised. Cleaning the glue was, AN ABSOLUTE PAIN IN THE ASS. Extremely messy, very time consuming, went through a few pairs of gloves and whole lot of rubbing alcohol. I remained patient though, since I didn't want to ruin any thin cords. Ended up getting everything cleaned up, reassembled, and plugged back in...(even put everything on a baking sheet as you did in the video lol). After plugging everything in, my uconnect was blue, not red, but I wasn't alarmed since I expected this. After staying patient, I am now sitting in my car, everything is working 100% properly, and I'm about to push the dash trim all back in. I cant thank you enough for making a video on a very specific topic. Im so glad i wasn't the only one that experienced this problem and grateful I had the privilege to find solutions on CZcams. So again, thank you so much. I wouldve just taken this in to the dealership and would've spent a shit ton of money if I never came across your tutorial! 🙏
Thanks for posting this video! I was about to pull the trigger on a $200 screen thinking i was going to have to replace the entire thing. This is perfect that this worked by simply cleaning it and applying new adhesive and good to go! Thanks again.
Who was selling a new screen for $200? I think Id rather just drop $200 and get it done fast with no hassle. Thanks
Perfect!! Fixed my 2017 Challenger T/A !! Very well done!! I really think it looks and feels better than new!! Thank you!!
Where did u buy the parts
Was there any issue with like licenses and stuff
Thank you SO much for putting this video together! You helped us save over $1000 to repair our delaminating touchscreen in my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The heat gun and fishing line worked really well to separate the digitizer from the LCD. Thank you again! Your video is really well produced too!
Do you put tape around the four corners or on the whole screen?
@@KingJcash not on the screen
Did u remove the cars battery or terminals before removing the radio???
@@LOGICAL-JAY no, we didn’t have to do that.
Did the touch screen work still?
Thanks so much for this!!! Mine has been pissing me off to no end. Constantly asks if I want to set my clock and beep, boops at me, ventilation controls changing on their own .. etc. It looks like some serious mother fvcks are in order to fix it, but well worth the time to save over a grand. These screens have been junk for a while. I had an old '14 Charger that blacked-out all the time, traded that in for a Challenger. Now this one is doing all the funky ghost button pushes you explained. Love(ed) every Mopar I had so far except for these chitty touch screens!!
A year later and still helping folk like me that come across gold like this. I appreciate you big dawg 🤝, definitely saved me some coins!
Thanks! I didn't realize so many people were having the same issue.
You are a genius. Thank you so much for this, it worked amazing. Everything is working perfect now. I was literally two days away from going to Cartoys and pay $1600 for after market set up…Metra mount kit(499), kenwood screen (549) and rest on installation. If i knew where to send it I would send you a bottle, a case of beer, flowers and a gift card lol. 🙏🏻
Lol glad it helped!
Thank you for sharing the information in a video. I just completed the same repair on my 2018 Ram 2500. Works perfectly. The bezel is a little difficult to remove on the trucks, plus you have to remove part of the center console. Not too bad just 6 screws to remove for access to the radio head unit. Removing and installing took around 30 minutes total. Roughly 2 1/2 hours to get the glue cleaned off of everything! That glue is horrible. Isopropyl Alcohol definitely works the best to remove it.
I'm back with good news. It worked! I have a 2018 Dodge Ram 2500. The hardest part for me (and a friend who helped) was getting the Uconnect out of the dash. My Ram has a center console so it wasn't just removing the dash plate, but also the center console. This took a solid hour. Once the Uconnect was removed, it took less than an hour to clean it up. Putting the tape around the edges was tricky because I couldn't get the plastic off the double-sided tape. Putting the Uconnect back into the truck was simple and took only 30 minutes. I'm so thankful you made this video. My total time was approx 3 hours and the cost was approx 15.00. I'm so pleased!!!
👍
Hello, I own a Durango RT '18 and started with the ghosting crazy screen. Couldn't get any fix until I find your video. Thank you for the time of putting together the tutorial, really help a lot. Cheers from Mexico city 🤙
Glad it helped!
Worked perfectly, the screen freaked out a little for the first 15 minutes but operated perfectly after, i also got a few stuck pixels at the bottom edge but this issue also vanished but in the next morning.
For those who are willing to do the job, a heat gun will tremendously help in removing the old glue, you only need less than a minute of heating (keep enough distance) and dental floss is a great choice for separating the digitizer from the lcd.
I have a 2018 Ram doing this. BIG safety hazard. Especially when it starts calling people randomly when driving. Thanks for the video. I will definitely be doing this to fix the issue.
Same and it is crazy they don't offer to fix it for free.
Just got my 2nd Charger SXT, its a 2017 and I noticed the bubbling at the top. Not even 5 hours from driving off the dealership lot I started to experience the glitching aka ghost screen. I saw this video today after watching SEVERAL videos....YOU ARE A LIFE AND POCKET SAVER!!!! Thank you so much for sharing this! I didn't even have too watch this whole video to understand exactly what to do. I also used fishing line like some of the other drivers in here. It made the separation step a lot easier. The hardest part was laying down and trimming the double sided gorilla tape...I love this tape..we use it at my commercial buildings I manage.
THANKS A MILLION!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for putting this video together.I used 10lb fishing line and a heat gun and was very careful. It took several hours for everything to work properly after installing, but it fixed the ghosting problem. Thanks again.
Glad it helped!
Why did it take hrs to work after you fixed it was the screen adjusting ?
Glad to see you're rocking Ozzy's Boneyard and LiquidMetal like real Mopar owners are supposed to 👍
My screen has been like this for a year but I just controlled the radio with the steering wheel buttons but I'm sick of it and you've convinced me to give this a go this weekend.
Ive been trying to figure out why my uconnect was tripping out, including calling 911 a couple of times, and I think you have finally shown me the way. My next set of days off i'm going to give it a try
🤘
Glad I’m not the only one who’s Uconnect decided to call 911!! I could handle it asking me to change the time 400 times. But the 911 call was the straw that broke the camel’s back!
Mine also called 911 last week! So happy to find this video!!
I used your video to fix my 2018 Ram. Your video takes you through it step by step. Mine worked just as shown. This saved m a lot of money. Thanks so much.

Thank you for this very well made video! I have a 2018 Dodge Challenger TA 392 and the touchscreen has been slowly delaminating for a couple years now. I didn't have the time to address it nor was it a priority until my touchscreen started ghost touching in the last couple months. I had to shut the touchscreen off just to drive the car because it was changing the settings of things and turning things off and on every few seconds. I took my car to the dealer and they wanted $2400 to replace the touchscreen and install the new one...yea didn't do that. My car was past warranty too so it would have had to come out of pocket. I used all the same products you recommended and it took maybe 4-5 hours in labor. Took my time cleaning which was the majority of the time and it is well worth it to make sure the screen is clean. It's crystal clear now. Thanks again. You saved me a lot of money!
I have an 18 TA 392 as well and exact same issue for last year or so. I tried other work arounds to no avail. So i guess i'll be doing this as well. How was popping off the dash cover? it looks like the most tedious aspect.
Man I’ve been racking my brain for the past last year trynna figure out how to fix this without spending $1000, appreciate it.
I did this last weekend for my wife's grand cherokee. It worked like a charm. The detail and instructions in this video were spot on, right down to using the bondo spreaders. I do wish I had read the comments first though. The dental floss or fishing line would have made it easier.
You think using fishing line would be better than the bondo spatulas
I’m confused on where to place the gorilla tape please help me
@@johnnyangel636 12:45 into the video. cover the black border on the digitizer with a single layer of the double sided tape. It isn't easy, and make sure you don't overlap the tape at all and make sure you are precise when placing it. Good luck!
Thank you so much! Fixed my 2017 Charger. There was a hair under the screen after putting back together, I accidentally broke the digitizer taking it back apart and had to order a new one smh lol. The tape is very necessary to stop the ghosting, to others beware the mounting tape is strong if trying to remove again. Thanks again!
For the past year the UConnect in my 2012 Chrysler 200S has been changing stations on me, & programming it never lasts. It never occurred to me that it could be the digitizer delaminating, but I did notice that the screen protector (?) on the outside of the glass was bubbling & disintegrating. I found a glass screen protector & was looking for a video on how to remove the old mess of plastic that's on my screen before putting on the new screen protector- and I found your EXCELLENT video which explained the problem I didn't know I had, and showed me how to fix it to boot! Many, many thanks, and you've made my day. Happy New Year, and God bless you!
Glad it helped!
Can you please explain to me where I place the tape? I’m confused 😕 on that part
I just banged this out in my 2018 Ram 3500 dually. I took me about an hour and a half max, start to finish. I pull the head unit, sat outside in the sun (80s temp) to do the fishing line between the screen and the digitizer and it worked like a charm. It helps to have the head unit stable while running the fishing line back and forth (had wife hold stereo). I used some shitty trilene 15lbs I had laying around. I cut through it in 30 seconds or less. I had some 99% isopropyl around and used that by pouring it into a little ramakin dish. I then would soak the microfiber towel in the alcohol and let it sit on the screen for 20 seconds, then begin to wipe. I did this over and over on both the lcd and the digitizer for about 15 minutes a screen total. When I would see little balls of glue, I would move to another section of the towel. I went through 3 or 4 towels. You could use less, but I have an abundance and quickly would grab another towel. I finished with a little windex to clean the lcd screen. I then used gorilla glue double sided tape, trimmed all along the edges and adhered it to the digitizer. I set the digitizer on the lcd screen without removing the backing on the double sided tape and placed the black bracket back over to hold it in place. Put the sh1t in the truck and new money!! Having to go through this was total B.S., but cheapest fix out there. Good luck all!!!
Does it seem to still be working without having removed the backing of the tape? If it is, I feel like that’s the better way to go.
@@Seanreagan Yup, all good
Do you put the tape in just the corners or on the whole screen
@@KingJcash whole screen
Hey you said that you trimmed all along the edges and adhered the gorilla glue double sided tape on the digitizer. I was wondering did you do it how he did in the video? Where it was on the black edges of the digitizer only. Also, has it still been working fine after you fixed it?
Thank you for the great step by step tutorial. I did this a few days ago. As you say, take your time with popping out the dash panel. The lower left side by left blinker is where you need to have patience to get it to pop out of the clips. I then had my wife hold the screen and I used 10lb. fishing line to get under the screen and floss across to remove the screen from the glue. It took about an hour with two of us wiping/removing the glue. I did not try it, but I wonder if Goo Gone would work better than alcohol? I would say the whole project was just under 3 hours, taking my time. Working like a dream so far.
Same thing I was thinking. I’m going to use goo gone
Goo gone pretty potent stuff tho
@@listohdid the goo gone work?
a little bit but not as great as I thought it would @@fallenangel664
Thanks for the tutorial, this method worked perfectly on my 2017 charger. One thing you have to keep in mind is to be gentle with the screen, if you press hard on it the digitizer flexes and freaks out
Thanks for sharing.....mental note...don't road-rage on the digitizer
Hi Thank you ! A replacement in Australia is a fantastic amount of money . This cost us less than 50$ AUD and working perfectly !
Great to hear!
Thank you! I just did my 2018 RT Charger! I ended up buying a new screen at Amazon. Yes the glue on this thing is ridiculous. Took about 3 hours to clean everything up. I repaired my 8.4 Uconnect in my 2017 charger using this video and it turned out great. Looks great and works with no issues, and is a better fix than paying for another screen and have it do the same thing in a year.
Glad it helped!
That's exactly what I needed to hear. I have a 2017 Charger as well and was quoted $1000
Thank you so much! After, what seemed to be a gallon of Isopropyl alcohol and a lot of patients getting all of that gunky glue, I was able to fix my touch screen thanks to this video. For some reason the ribbon cable cracked and I lost half the touch ability on the screen, but ordered a new digitizer and used the steering wheel controls while I waited for the new one to arrive.
I did this fix with the help of your video for my 18' Challenger. I used a combination of fishing line and those patty wedges to remove the digitizer and it worked perfectly (slow and steady). The whole job took my Dad and I about 3 hours (mostly due to removing the glue and precisely cutting the gorilla tape to fit correctly). If anyone is reading this be very careful with the little black wire as we were removing the glue and moving it around the wire got ripped out and luckily I had a soldering gun to re-attach it. ALSO I had issues with the screen acting haywire for the first few times I started the car it would not recognize touch and was ghost touching but I waited a few hours and everything is working as factory new now. Thanks a bunch for saving me arounf 1k-2k on buying a new unit!
same exact year, I did mine today.... I never wanna see any glue again ever lol
Do you know the exact name of those "patty wedges" I can't find them on amazon.
Mine is still looking the same after I did the whole procedure.

Thank you for posting this. I have the same delamination happening and ghost button selecting. Also, a door panel warping away from window. For what you did, it is sure worth it.
I just fixed my trunk button that fell back inside it's housing. The bracket rusted. Love my car, but too many cheap issues for the price of our cars.
Same here bro. The door panel warping is annoying. Did u get your fixed yet?
@@pinedo510 No, not yet. I seen a video where the upholsterer stapled the panel. I am thinking of having that done, but might try to heat the panel were it is warped and using glue or high temperatured double sided tape.

That is very common. Its the panels inner and outer layers separating. I fixed this issue on my Chrysler 300 by clamping it back down and then hot gluing it together. Holding strong 2 years later. I will be posting a video in the next couple of months how to do this!

Ok, I just finished getting the radio cleaned up and put back together. Yes, that glue is a major pain and definitely the hardest and longest part of the whole process. Thank you so much for this video! Now, with that said, I have not been able to reinstall the radio yet because, in the process of disconnecting the plugs, I broke off a couple of the female ends that are suppose to stay attached to the pins on the back of the radio just above the big connector/plug. Any idea where I can find a couple and what exactly they are called? I am hoping it is a piece that can be re-attached! The male end of the plugs on wires running from dash are fine. Thanks again for the very good instructional video. Fyi, I called a local dealership before finding your video and the service department told me it would cost anywhere from $700 to $1300 to fix the radio and that was not including labor! No thanks! UPDATE: I think the plug I am looking for is called a FAKRA male connector. I said I had broken the female ends, but it is the male ends on the din connections on back of radio. Any suggestions on how to fix would be GREATLY appreciated!
There should be a dodge recall on these unconnect 8 4 screens. Luckily I had a factory warranty on my 2018 ram ,I had new radio replaced at dodge dealer
Seriously I called and called nothing came out it!! Crooks! Lol
How did you find out you had a warranty?
I have a 2018 ram and I agree. I went to the dealership and they told me I have to replace my radio
Are you the original owner? I've read others weren't able to get it covered unless they bought it new.
@@jigiels29 no im not.
Thank you so much for this video! I watched your instructions and was able to fix the screen in my 2018 Dodge Charger. It was fairly easy to remove the dash cover and then the radio. I used both isopropyl alcohol and nail polish remover/acetone to clean the screen. The screen separated fairly easy, and the goo was ridiculous. The acetone got the goo off rather quickly, and then I used the alcohol for the final wiping. The Gorilla double sided tape was easy to put on and get cut nice and even. Took almost a whole bottle of acetone, and half a roll of paper towels, but the results were amazing. Take your time and it is not too bad, and afterwards you have a functioning screen, and the best part is you will save $$$!
Thanks again!
Glad to help!
Hey i tried with go gone with it is still giving ghost touches someone recommended me using 100% acetone do you think it is safe to use it on the lcd and digitlizer?

Thank you so much this work so perfectly. Took me two hours . I got two tips that may help.
#1 use fishing wire to separate screen. It slide in between easy and It make its so much easier.
#2 get a spray bottle of alcohol , spray let it set in the adhesive for 1-2 min then wipe. It breaks down the glue better when it sits and is soaked in. Repeat until its clean . I used 5 medium microfiber towels through process.
How long did it take doing it this way?

Thank you for this video! I figured it wouldn't be too difficult to fix it, but wasn't going to waste my time on it without some proper steps. I also have a 2017 Charger R/T and will be doing this in the next couple weeks as it has continued to get worse, especially with the heat outside. Happened once in awhile during the winter, but now in the summer it basically immediately starts happening. I'll probably use a heat gun myself as mentioned in some of the comments. Tired of these manufacturers using junk head units and speakers and not just wiring it for an easy aftermarket replacement with all functionality still available without $500+ harness adapters now.

I'm thinking of trying this on a 2018 grand cherokee but I'm worried about the amazon loca glue being different from the factory "tacky" glue and creating bonding issues. Is it still holding up and did you cure the loca with UV or just fill and pop it back in?
Did this in my charger a couple days ago. Works great, didn’t have to unplug anything, just pulled it forward a bit and put more glue in and cured with uv light. No more ghost touches and the top part of the screen works again.
After watching this and having the day off work, I decided to go buy the supplies and tackle this. Because I can't stand my screen tweaking anymore. I watched a few others videos but you really made me less worried about breaking the ribbon or spraying something that shouldnt be sprayed with alcohol. It took me about 2 and a half hours the way I did it (using fishing line to seperate the glass).
Hooked it up, let it start on factory default for a minute before shutting my car off for maybe 4 minutes. Once I turned it back on, went back to normal. Do note that on initial boot up audio DID NOT WORK. but after it recalibrate, works fine. And my screen isn't ugly anymore!
If I have problems I will actually update unlike some lazy people out there. I'm so excited to use Android auto again! Thanks a bunch man.
Glad it worked for ya! I was a bit concerned when my radio first came up in default, but after a bit of research find out that was completely normal, although I didn't have any issues with the audio not working.
I considered using the fishing line, but I was concerned that the digitizer would re-bond to the screen while working the fishing line around, so that is why I used the bondo spreaders.
@MoonBuilt Garage I read your comment about your concern with it re-bonding. But from other videos I'd seen it sticks, but once you separate it even a little it doesn't stick nearly like it used to. More like tape than glue.
Update, have used the radio for maybe 4 hours total now and had 0 issues. If anything goes wrong I'll update again!
I been trying to find a better way on how to address this problem without replacing my 8.4 system. Thank you!
THANK YOU!!!! The cleaning was the longest part of it no lies there. Followed every instruction piece and it worked out. I was doubtful but was confident after watching your video I had a good chance at success. Thank you again!!!! 🎉🎉🎉

Thank you for this. As I scroll through some comments, I noticed the trend that this is happening in 2017 and 18's.. This started happening to me (2018 Ram 1500) a few months back and the bubbling has slowly gotten worse. I had my truck in for an oil change and had them take a look and I was told the only fix is to replace the whole stereo which was priced at $800! I said I would deal with it but now it has started to do the *ghost* button pushing and changing the station on me and basically freezing up the screen on me so I can't push anything.
Awesome video. Just bought a 18 power wagon and the radio was exactly like yours. Luckily dealership is changing it for free. But at least I’ll know if it happens to my replacement.

Brother, I give you mad props for tackling the delamination of your touch screen. I have a similar thing happening with my own 2018 Durango SRT and there's no way I'm going to dig into my dash like you did. Enjoyed your solution though. I'll be referring to it just in case. Cheers! 😊
Send me the screen, I'll do it for $200. It's an easy fix!
Thank you so much for your video. I did the job on my 2018 Ram truck in about 3 hours and it worked great. I did use a hair dryer to loosen the glue a little bit similar to a cell phone screen. Everything works perfect. Thanks again.
Glad it helped
Hey, just wanted to say that I used this tutorial to fix my delaminating touchscreen and it went great! Thanks for posting this it was really helpful.
Great to hear!
Can u do mine
I have a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had the same exact problem. I must say thank you!! This video guided me to fixing my head unit as well. Thanks a million!
Glad it helped!
This worked great - took me like an hour and a half, most of which was spent cleaning the screen + digitizer. Mine didn't freak out when I reattached; it just had me start the engine because it was locked. It was a little slower on first boot but after a couple minutes it was back to normal. Thanks!
Glad it helped!
YES!!!! It worked for me. I've been dealing with it for at least 2 years now and my son showed me this video and we worked on it and now my system works and doesn't text random people or dial 911 by itself anymore. Thank you so much. Definitely saved a lot of money.
Glad it helped
My system was dialing a number so many times they threatened legal action!
thank you so much for he help man! this video helped me thoroughly. I have a 2018 Dodge Charger GT & had the delam problem. went to your page checked out the vid and went and did it the next day. dealership was gonna charge me $500+ but you saved me $490 🤘😎
Glad it helped!
I literally just did this aswell 2 days ago. Just as a tip tho. I used the same dpuble sided clear tape from gorilla BUT I didnt remove the protective layer so that it wont bond into the LCD panel just incase I need to take it apart again in the future they wont be bonded together at all. The unot is held in perfect alignment tho due to the Black clip on portion of the unit. But yes I did all the same process & that was 2 days ago & I just seen your til now. I have experience repairing Mobile phone devices which the glass screens are bonded in the same way as this uconnect system so I knew what I had to do. I thought of making a video to it but now that I see your video I can easily jjst share this video around instead 😄
Do you need to cover the gold parts of the digitizer with tape?
Mine doesn’t seem to be reading my selections after re-installing. I was thinking because I didn’t tape over the gold areas of the digitizer. Any ideas?
wow!!! i left the dodge dealer quoting 1000.00 or more to fix this problem unfortunately i don't have the confidence to fix it myself but it was great to see how you did it and the truth behind why its doing what its doing thank you for your post.
Try it! What's the worst that could happen....pay the dealership? If you succeed you're only or some time and about $10...
I am sending you a big thank you. My husband is a car guy and got the unit out and I cleaned the screens and added the gorilla tape. Reinstalled without difficulty. The only unexpected thing was the Sirius was not on after reinstall. Just took a phone call to Sirius to get it back. The local dealership wanted $1800. Big savings thanks to you.
Glad the video helped!
Thanks for the video! Did mine today and it went smooth. Sticky, very sticky, but smooth. You saved me a lot of time and $$.
Glad it helped
Just did this on my 2018 jeep grand Cherokee Limited- super easy & fixed my problem without having to spend a ton. Thank you so much !
Glad it helped!
Amazing video, thank you so much for the depth and insight. I wouldn't drive my 17 Charger Hellcat because of the ghost clicking, it was too annoying and dangerous.
Wrecked my screen today 😢. Was incredibly delicate while removing the digitizer but I guess that I tweaked the actual LCD screen while doing so. Spent almost three hours cleaning it spotless and hooked it back up to what looked like a screen that had an impact. Was worth trying as I already had all the materials. Now it's roughly ~$500 or so to order the the OEM assembly LA084X01 SL03 which allegedly no longer has this issue. The SL01 was the worst and will do it again, SL02 is okay, but the SL03 is the newest replacement. Small electronics repair is something I have a knack for but managed to mess this one up. Thanks for the video though! I'm sure it has helped a bunch of people.
That sucks....sorry to hear that! But thanks for posting the information regarding the replacement screens
Thank you for the video. Bought my car from another state and had no warranty. Screen has a little bubble at the top that only got worse. I used fishing line and a blow dryer and worked perfectly!
Glad it helped
I really don't understand the thought process behind this and why Jeep hasn't initiated a full recall on this defective bs. I'm torn between doing this myself or replacing the head unit with an aftermarket. Awesome vid!
I got a 18 challenger days ago with this issue, saved me a lot of money. You’re the man!!
Glad it helped!
Bro. I appreciate you so much. I have the same bubble on mine in my 18 charger RT. So tired of accidentally calling people and changing my songs lmao . My digitizer arrived and I’ll be back with a finished update. 🙏🏽 you’re the GOAT!
You may not need to replace the digitizer. I would clean it all up first and see how it works. Thanks for the Sub!
Thanks! This what is happening to my Ram 1500. You’ve given me the confidence to try and fix it myself reinforcing that I am still a man!!
Sounds like you might have bigger issues than a messed up stereo 🤣
Just finished doing the same thing your video is about, It is fixed !!!!!!, my 2018 HellCat Charger radio including everything else I can actually use now instead of wanting to light a fire inside my car from being pissed... , I appreceate the info , Your video is most definitley helpful. it took me 1hr 38 minutes from start to finish.
Thanks again Dave
Glad it helped!
Hey I just wanna say thank you soo much for this video this video saved me soo much money took me about 3hours as well because I really took my time to clean it also I use the fishing line as well radio works perfect now thanks again.💪💯💯
Glad to hear it!
Thank you thank you! This video saved me hundreds of dollars. It was about 3 hours work cleaning all the goo off, but it worked perfectly in the end.
Glad it helped! Thanks for the tip!
Great video.
No issues with my 2018 Challenger 8.4 unit, but now I know what to do if it comes up.
Just did exactly what you shared in the vid and I am very happy with the results, thanks.
Glad it helped
Omg I can't thank you enough. I just looked up the part and it's 399! Thanks for mapping out a fix that I can do
Glad I could help!
Thanks for sharing brother! Just fixed mine yesterday and it’s finally working again👍
Glad to be of service! 👍
Very nicely done and you've inspired me to take this on myself! You have great taste in music, too, by the way! :D
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks so much. I just did my 2017 challenger screen I bought some trim tools and a cell phone kit with some tools to help separate it. And a roll of clear gorilla tape. Less than $50 in.
The snot was running out of the bottom of the radio when I took it out.
Back in and so far so good. All quotes have been around $1000. Hopefully it lasts a good long time.
I should...I have had NO issues since I completed mine
Thank u sir. Ur video is a big help. I clean the gel and put it back since my digitizer has alot of scratches gonna replace it. As of now its working. Cross finger.
Glad it helped
Ok, so after doing some looking around, I found a Fakra Z Male to SMB plug (female) coaxial pigtail cable and ordered two. They securely connect to the exposed coax on the back of the radio and the other end, which is like the female connector that broke, plug into the cable coming from the dash. Got it all put back together and the radio works great! My total cost to repair was about $24.00. I'll get over it. Thanks again!
Thanks for this video. Just did this on my 18 Challenger. Got a half victory... no more ghosting but for some reason now my touch screen doesnt recognize presses in alot of areas. I dont know if the digitizer got messed up somewhere along the way. But now im debating on just saying screw it and dealing with it or trying to replace it... just kinda annoyed Dodge won't own up to this mess. This is a manufacture issue if so many ppl are having this issue. Thanks again man
Thank you very much for this. Followed your instructions on a 2018 Wrangler JL and all went well except two things - maybe these will help others:
1. I broke the ribbon cable on the digitizer trying to clean off the glue. I knew better - worked with ribbon cables a ton back in the early computer days and they suck. So basically, you need to get the unit and digitizer sitting VERY steady and flush before you start "scrubbing".
2. The replacement digitizer ($45 at Amazon) had two sided tape already on it, but at least for the Wrangler, it just didn't do the job. There wasn't enough of a thermal break perhaps, and I kept getting some little bubbles where the digitizer was touching the LCD. So I took it back out and used the Gorilla tape LIKE YOU TOLD ME TO and voila, it's absolutely perfect. If you're reading this - just go ahead and use the Gorilla tape the first time.
How did you reattach the ribbon cable?
Thank you!!! I just spent about 2 hours and it works perfectly! Saved me a 3hr trip back to the dealer and $100 deductible!
Glad it helped!
@@MoonBuiltGarage I broke the pink “clip” portion off the pink connector so that wire no longer snaps onto the back of the unit. It is working and is in place held firm by the wiring harness itself. Any idea where I can get a new clip? I don’t know what those are called. I want to try and take the clip off another pink end piece and pop it onto the existing pink end piece.
Great job on the video I've had my screen redone twice by infotainment twice its come apart. I have a 2018 ram 2500 6.7. I just did what you said on your video worked perfect. The only thing I did different was use a razor blade to remove the thick glue first without going to the edges it took me forty minutes to clean the glue off. Its like you said on your video take your time. Everything works great thanks again for your post.
Thanks for sharing...although I would be VERY careful using a razor blade....one sneeze and you're replacing the entire thing
Hi I have an update on my Uconnect it started ghost touch again about two weeks ago
last week I contacted Crutchfield. I ordered an Alpine ilx 507 I also ordered an idatalink Maestro RR interface module and an idatalink Kit-Ram1 factory system adaptor. With the help of Crutchfield I installed everything. Everything works great no more Uconnect problems. I also live in Florida where its always hot that could be why it didn't last.
I used this hack for my uconnect in my 2018 Jeep. This video saved me 2000.00. This works. Thanks
Glad to hear it!
Thank you for the video it really helped me. I followed every step you did. I did it the same way you did I fixed it myself and now it's working. Taking off the dashboard was hard but I took it out anyway again thank you for that video.
Glad it helped
I’m glad I found this Video having the same issues just started a two weeks ago now I know how to fix the issue thanks for the Video definitely subscribing 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!
Hi, I admired your video, I did everything the same, but alas, some buttons on top did not work at startup, I did not put the panel completely,
and while the stove was working, the block itself heated up strongly and after half an hour I began to live my life, so I understood because of overwork, you are a very good master, tell me some advice
Great Tips! I just completed this in my daughter's 2018 Jeep Compass. It had a really bad bubble that ghost-touched constantly. I used a heat gun on low and fishing string - was able to separate the digitizer within 5 minutes - probably less. Then - came the difficult task of removing the glue. That probably took an hour with paper towels and 91% Iso alcohol. Cleaned it up several times with Windex and used clear Gorilla tape to put it all back together. Works great so far - and saved $1000 vs sending it in!
Now - only to figure out why her Auto Start-Stop says it needs service.....uugh.
For auto start/stop change both batteries
The auxiliary battery and the main. Then it needs to be reset
clear the all glue everything is working properly now i have to wait for some time to know it is perfectly fine or not!!! i am ao happy , its was easy plus your video is very helpful ❤️
Glad it helped!
I did the exact same way to my radio and now it’s just like new thank you for sharing really helped me
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much for this video you saved me big money, i did my 17 charger rt step by step the way you did it and it worked much love and respect
Glad it helped!
I have a 2018 Challenger.. My screen at the very top where the clock is has a tiny bubble forming.. Just saw it Today. It's about a 1/8" double circle. It's not bothering me yet and i can't even really tell it's there. I am going to let it ride and see if it ends up blowing up all over the screen or not. Spring and Summer weather is about to hit though... I really hope it Doesn't get worse.. but if it does.. I think this video will really help me a lot. Awesome video. Thanks for doing this step by step.
Mine took about a year and a half to get to the point where the stereo started acting wonky
Dude nice job thank you for sharing! My 2017 RT is butt dialing people I don't want to call my radio has its own mind changing channels, i see the bubble across my screen just like a Cell phone repair only not replacing the cracked screen I can't wait to fix it!
Had the same issues found your video and it saved my $2000 thank you
Glad it helped!
