273+k miles on my 2013 😂 and still running strong. Has a 3.5-inch lift with 35-in tires. It is an extremely capable truck. And I appreciate all the places it has taken me.
My 2011 f150 3.5 ecoboost has 437,000 miles on it and still going strong
I'd love to see that 😅
@@tradingtrucker3 I’ll take a picture of my odometer for you. Maintenance is everything my friend
Have you had any timing chain and turbos replaced ever??
@@FordGuy20111 no sir, everything is original
And how many turbos have u replaced
I appreciate you putting this together, and the information is helpful. But for the love of god please get rid of the fake audio
For real once it said F-150 that's when j could tell but I'd rather have real commentary
2011 3.5. 211,000 miles. Truck runs mint. Haven't had a check engine light in a year. Was for an O2 sensor. Just do your maintenance and your truck will last. I expect at least another 100k miles no problem.
Any tips for maintenance?
I installed a catch at 500 miles on it, and he’s running smooth at 35,000 miles. I change oil between 5,000 to 6,000 miles - mostly every 5,000 miles. I just had my front, rear diff and transfer case flushed at 30,000 miles.
Catch cans are great!!
Do you need catch cans on 2023?
My 2021 F150 3.5 Twin Turbo has been a great motor.
I run up north to the cottage on a regular basis towing trailers, boats, ATV’s etc and it’s a very nice ride.
I get great fuel economy if I don’t stomp on it, and that’s not easy cause it has so much power it’s hard not too. I really enjoy beating my brothers Ram with his gas guzzling 5.7.
I over maintain everything I own, I change the oil every 3000miles and use Amsoil Signature Series, if it’s good enough for Ferrari than I’m happy using it.
Oils cheap, change often and you will enjoy your truck for years!
How long do you planning on keeping that overpriced Ecoboost truck? Also what job do you have and how much money do you make to afford that overpriced Ecoboost truck as well? Also will that Ecoboost F150 of yours outlast my good ol 96 Ford F150 with a 5.0L (302) Windsor V8?
Own a 2013 f-150 with 3.5 eco boost, and no issues with the engine or transmission. Use only synthetic oil, do regular oil changes. After 10 years living in the desert, air-conditioner system for cold air had to have a complete overhaul.
I change the oil, SN Plus full synthetic, every 3,500 to 5000 miles. I would never wait until the 'recommended' interval.
I agree buy people missperseive Ford's recommendations. They look only at the high number for what is ideal. Ford also states a 3 to 5k change interval for sever use. What is normal driving vs severe is rather subjective.
Hasn’t F150 been having these loose timing chain issues on 3.5 eco-boosts since day one??
Have a customer who had a 17 with the 3.5. He just traded in on a new Denali 1/2 ton. (eh). Anyway 130k on the Ford. 3 motors put in 6 years. He used it to travel, not tow, not haul, travel. Drove it like a car. Was meticulous with the maintenance. Had it done at the dealer since day 1.
3 engines in 130k? That's unheard of....why were they replacing the engines?
Cam phaser issues are common with this engine
How expensive is it to change out a cam phaser?
One way to help prevent carbon build up is an oil catch can system. I've had one on my dad's truck since it was new and the valves are barely dirty.
Looking at one of these. What's a catch can system?
Could Seafoam just be put into the crankcase every oil change?
@@usa91787 just use a really good oil filter and synthetic oil. My ecoboost has 460,000 miles on it and no catch can. Zero coking issues. Use the Napa platinum filter with Mobile 1 full synthetic and you’ll have zero problems
Carbon build up should not be a problem with later engines that have a dual direct and port injection.
@@usa91787 If you have the newer dual direct and port injection, carbon build up should not be a problem.
The engine in your video was not running right and the owner kelp driving it. That why they had to use a screwdriver to remove the build up. I have a 2016 F150 2.7 with 91k miles and my engine run fine.
Almost exactly 10 years to the date of purchase. Engine 115K miles, running great. However Timing, points, plugs, calipers and brakes needed replacing in the last year. Water and fuel pump in the last two. Over $10,000 in the last year. Still worth keeping?
You’ve replaced most things that need replacing. Now enjoy it and put another 100k on it😊
That’s ridiculous for a car with 115,000 miles on it. Sorry don’t mean to be a jerk. I’ve had two tundras and two Tacoma’s. But well over 300 on each of them and not a dime except for brakes and oil changes. 2:51
1st gens were used up until the 2017's which were the first year for the 2nd gens
I feel your pain going thru that now😞
Have owned many Ecoboost have 2 now nothing wrong with them if you take care of them.
Do you recommend a catch can to prevent coking off the intake valves?
For first gen catch can is recommended no matter what
A catch can may help prevent carbon build up on the backside of the valves since you're essentially "filtering" the vapor and oil droplets before it gets to your intake manifold. Just be sure to empty out the catch can itself regularly. Or vent to atmosphere..
Yes.
No mention of internal water pump failure and milk shaking the motor
The 3.5 in the f150 has an external water pump it’s a $400 repair
I have a 2016 Ecoboost engine. I bought it four years old. It now has 112000 miles on it. I don’t haul any loads with it.
Idk if I made a mistake but I just bought a 2017 eco boost
@@alexnimmy6178 the problems with the engine was corrected after 2014. This is my understanding.
I own a 2013 Ford F 150 with 270000 miles (3.5 twin turbo) and have never had any of these problems ……
Mine is a 2016. I bought it 4 years old.
The single msd coil is bugging me. Change them all.
Had a 14.. pos junk.. spent more time at dealer here in San diego
I'll be honest with you I wouldn't recommend buying the EcoBoost to anyone it has been nothing but problems for me I have a 2014 Platinum F-150. I just spent $8,600 at the dealership getting a transmission issue fixed then a month later out-of-nowhere A-Rod breaks and put the hole in my block. Now they want another 14,000 to put an engine in it!!!!! The timing chain and cam phasers are also major issue as the truck rattles like hell on startup in the morning. I've always put full synthetic and changed oil before my oil intervals where due!!! Never was dogged or mudded has always been taking very good care of but the engine has proven to be nothing but a POS!!!!!!
I had a 2014 3.5 ecoboost. I put 96,000 trouble free miles on it when I traded it in for a 2021.
looks like you’re not so lucky with your truck
438,000 miles on mine, the only major issue was the wire harness inside the Transmission at 380,000 miles cost me $1500
Sounds like either it's something you were doing or a defective engine. More often than not it's the customer doing something they shouldn't.
Agreed 100% brother and I know that my 1996 Ford F150 with a 5.0L (302) Windsor V8 will outlast any of those overpriced Ecoboost vehicles with ease even in 30 years.
Never get first generation engines.
My first gen ecoboost has 438,000 miles on it and is still all original on the drive train, it’s been a great pickup
What about the REST of the PROBLEMS ???
Check the mechanics shop records on different dealerships and you will see that they are in for repairs more then the other engines facts don’t lie.
yes because they sell ecoboosts like hotcakes
It's too bad the fed govt is mandating all these laws forcing car makers to abandon normally aspirated engines.
I love the Ford 5.0 and the old Toyota V-6 but the Toyota is already gone in many models and the Ford Coyote is getting tougher to locate.
Bad stuff....again the gov't messes in our lives in a bad way.
Agreed 100%
I can't listen to a guy that calls a f150 , f one hundred fifty.
I have a 2019 f150 3.5 l. EcoBoost or as I call it eco crap. Been to the Ford dealership in Orangeville Ontario several times and they've not been able to fix my engine. They claim they don't hear the sound. The knocking sound. Posted below is a link of how my truck sounds on startup?.
czcams.com/video/yleoqd5g3xM/video.htmlsi=d6h3f2XwYf9e_iME
So why would I buy one ? I’ll keep my 6.2 litre supercharged hellcat engine in my TRX RAM .
Check engine light came on 3 days before we took to a local Ford Dealer for an oil, filter, and air filter change. They were booked out 2 months on any service, but they did do a cursory diagnostic and pulled up two codes, P0012 and P054C. With these two codes written on a sticky note we took it to a very reputable local auto mechanic. They ran a full diagnostic and determined it needed the following: Remove and Replace 3.5L Engine, Twin Turbocharger (all), Primary and Secondary timing Chain. Includes R&I Camshaft Sprocket, has 2 bad cam phasers,. Estimate cost to repair $6,000.00. The truck is a 2015 F-150 3.5 L Ecoboost with 89k miles. All recommended maintenance had been done at the Ford Dealer where the truck was purchased. Only used for towing a small utility trailer, two horse trailer, and a 6k lb. boat, on 3-4 occasions each. We've had nothing but problems with this truck since new and now this. It's not a BMW, it's Fords best selling pickup truck. Can't Ford do better and build an engine that will last at least a couple hundred k miles (if properly serviced and maintained) without costing an arm and a leg?
Vehicles are such a money pit .
Expect to last 200k for a $60k truck it better last at least 300k
Stop saying one hundred fifty.... It's F.......1.........50
Nothing but problems with the 3.5 trash on wheels basically stay away unless you love to spend money and time on a useless truck
Agreed 100% brother, for me I chose the 5.0L Coyote V8 over the Ecoboost V6 anyday.
Ford manufactured defective eco-boost engine series…
Turns out their engineers and improperly designed
The Cam-phasers !😮
To fix this problem will cost you $2000-$3000
You should avoid those series engine models.😢
