I'm definitely glad I did my research before I planned this trip.... (Not that I don't always) When I was looking up places to film at in Buffalo, I found this Very Neat & Historic Old Hotel located just North of Downtown, and it happens to be the Oldest Hotel in all of Buffalo, opening in 1896! Then, I found pictures online of the inside of the hotel, and when I found out what kind of elevators they had, words couldn't describe how excited I was! It also turns out Buffalo's oldest hotel also has the oldest hotel elevators in Buffalo too! Campbell Elevator was based out of Western NY and several have been found and filmed by other elevator emthusiasts. NOT a TRACTION one however, let alone one that goes up 9 FLOORS!!!
Now mind you, being that this place was built in 1896, these elevators are definitely not original to the building, but the modernization was done 60+ years ago, so these are still VERY ANTIQUATED nonetheless, and OMG do these have so much character and TOTALLY live up to the hype!
There's 2 elevators here, one of which has a Silver COP and serves 8 floors while the other one has a brass COP and goes up 9 floors. Out of the two, I obviously prefer the 2nd elevator, but both elevators here were amazing in LITERALLY EVERY WAY POSSIBLE!!!
From the EPIC Motor Startups, The Audible Relays, BEAUTIFUL Cabs, Unique Floor Indicators, RARE & UNIQUE Call Stations and VERY RARE and CHARMING Fixtures installed by a brand that you don't normally see, I mean, what more could you ask for!?!? Not to mention the outer doors are even original from when they were Manually Controlled and they fit in very nicely with the 1890s Decor of the hotel!
These elevators are just TRULY AMAZING in every way possible and words CANNOT describe how INCREDIBLE these are!!!! Well, minus the fact that these apparently aren't the most reliable according to a Resident I talked to. Despite this however, between how RARE these elevators are, the character these have and the fact these could very easily be truly one of a kind, HOPEFULLY these will NEVER be modernized, at least not anytime soon!!!
These elevators are just ABSOLUTELY TREASURES and PIECES of PLATINUM, and while some may overlook these compared to places like the Rand Building, Main Place Tower or 69 Deleware Ave due to them not being in Downtown or serving as many floors, let me tell ya something! If you DON'T see this when in Buffalo, YOU are MISSING OUT!!! And I MEAN IT!!!
Now, I could go on for hours talking about how AMAZING, CHARMING & EPIC these elevators and the hotel it houses it are, but with that being said, I hope you enjoy the video, and Happy Belated Birthday ‪@NWIndianaElevators‬! (I'm sorry I'm a date late, but due to work I wasn't able to edit the video in time!)
Installed in 1896. (Unknown, Manually Controlled)
Modernized in Circa 1950s or 1960s. (Campbell Elevator Mod with New Cabs, New Motors, New Inner Doors, New Controllers, etc. Basically a complete replacement minus the Outer doors which remain original.)
