From Andrew's chaotic vibe, and Alvin's chill demeanor, Kendall's absolute cinnamon roll of a personality really ties together the mood triangle.
It's like a family reunion. The crazy uncle, the cool cousin and the loving aunt.

I would’ve loved for Kendall to go full malicious compliance and make a soup dumpling into a sandwich, but this is also great.
I think you should have done soup dumplings, filled with only tomato soup, and served with a fried cheese "dumpling skirt" underneath. This way the filling is soup, rather than pizza roll filling, and you get the flavour of the grilled cheese (the part that escapes the grilled cheese sandwich and becomes crunchy)
Agree, and/or have the cheese layer inside separated by enclosing another small dumpling inside the bigger one, which contains the soup. Also incorporating scallions would have been cool.
@@RidleyJones I genuinely thought that's what she was gonna do. Make essentially a double layered larger dumpling with cheese between the two layers enclosing the soup.
I could see this working by making shengjian bao instead of xiaolong bao: they are soup dumplings with a thicker, sturdier dough that are pan fried instead of steamed.
Yep and the texture of the wrapper is like bread or bun only, then could have egg washed it and put it in oven to bake further

The funny thing is that this is something that exists in one of the restaurants near where I live. They have dumplings (steamed or pan fried) with about 2 dozen fillings and one of them is cheese, tomato, and egg.
I have never heard of a soul dumpling before. How is that a thing?

I think it would have been better had you done this based off of Sheng Jian Bao rather than Xiao Long Bao. It's a yeasted pan fried soup dumpling which holds a lot better when fried and has a more bread like chew. I can definitely see it working with a tomato soup and cheese filling. YUM

The hilarious thing is that, if we didn't know this channel, we would not assume that the baffled man wandering around the kitchen acting high was actually in charge.
So excited to see more Kendall Combines! I do think the format of the first episode was slightly better though, using two stables to make something unexpected and delicious, rather than this fusion cuisine format where the end product is fairly easy to imagine.

This series really fills out the culinary universe
If you would have put cheese between two wrappers and then used that to wrap the soup. It would have been more like a grilled cheese with tomato soup. Instead of the cheese and soup combining inside the dumpling. But your idea to fry it was definitely the right move.

Going by the premise that a dumpling can just be anything with something stuffed in it, you could always try little croustade filled with your cheese & tomato filling. Plus it lets you play with a croustade iron, I love frying & playing with mine.
At the beginning of "lock-down" I was toying with filled pastas. The one people seem to like the most was my breaded & fried, Philly cheesesteak raviolis. It had everything a cheesesteak needs, bread, steak, onion, peppers, cheese, ketchup and mustard. You can do them as large or small as your skill & desire tell you. A few large ones on a plate can make a satisfying side or starter.
I had cheese dumplings for the first time in Japan and now I’m excited to try to make this one with tomato soup! Thanks for sharing!
Awesome job Kendall...I want to try those dumplings. My first thought though, was to create a grilled dumpling sandwich, using the filling from the dumplings. Actually, I think I'm going to try that too, while I make your grilled cheese and tomato soup dumplings. I love this video!
