  • Pasifika communities in New Zealand are relieved the dark days of the 1970s Dawn Raids are at last being formally acknowledged. Nearly 50 years on, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has delivered an unreserved sorry to those who were left traumatised for life.

The NZ Prime Minister and Government really need to be commended. This is a first step in the right direction. Well done.

I was emotional for my Pacific Island Whanau. Ardern will get blow back from that element in NZ fearing an attack on their privilege and we have politicians like Judith Colins desperate to ignite those people with race baiting.

Congratulations NZ, moving beyond past rascist governments policies. A long way to go to lose the Settler Colonial nature of NZ/Aoteoroa society, but you are moving there. Apology accepted. Much still to do.

Are you going to give up all that racist hate science technology you appropriate every day? Are you going to say sorry for the Celts/Moriori that were brutally slaughtered and genocided after Maori got there?
Yeah, didn't think so. Lets leave history where it belongs, as a lesson. 'Ka mua, ka muri'.

REPLY: So yes, some Māori did kill some Moriori, and the story is an awful one - but to attribute this to all Māori is wrong, and if you find yourself wanting to do it you should question your own motives in doing so:)
