Will the Minelab Equinox Leak? waterproof test

  • Today i decided to try the waterproof part of my Equinox 800 by giving it a bath!
    Also the first show off of our new intro!! enjoy.

    My understanding is that it is supposed to be operated underwater only with the waterproof headphones attached. Apparently the cap on the connector is not meant to be a good waterproof seal like the connection with waterproof headphones. It worked out fine for you but it was only inches underwater and there is a lot less water pressure. You really can’t operate it fully underwater anyway without waterproof headphones as you won’t get sound from the speaker and wireless headphones signal doesn’t transmit through water very well. I used mine in shallow water quite a bit this year but did not submerge the control box. I was using wireless headphones, a bit of a risk as they are not waterproof, but I tested and I could not shake them off my head no matter what. Definitely getting WP headphones this year! ATB&HH!

      Oh thats great advice mate! i did notice that there was a rubber seal on the cap that covers the headphone connection. but never thought too much about it.. hahaha thank got it survived! Thanks for taking the time to watch!

    Should only use cold water anyway. Warm would expand it slightly and may break a seal.

    I’ve knocked mine in to the rock pools a few times and thankfully all been ok. Hopefully going to try it wading in the sea when we can get back out 😃

      Yes i feel a lot more confident now i have tested it in water, i would defo always rinse the salt water off with clean water after been in the sea just incase haha. thanks for droppin in and watching mate!

    I have submerged mine in beaches. The shaft got water and makes it heavier. Also the it is hard to swing it and it may wobbles a little.

    Always wanted to get into metal detecting but never felt the need to purchase equipment but I guess it would be a way of cleaning up the environment while I have some fun. Might be a good investment. What do you suggest for someones first machine starting out?

      Depends on what you want to spend! i hear the sipmlex is a great machine and the minlab vanquish is also great. There are many.. Glad you enjoyed watching. Stay safe mate

    some are only water proof for a few inch but once you go into 2/3ft they leek like a sive :( ive drowned 2 so for and wont be going back into the water until the warrenty has run out and i can waterproof it myself without voiding the warrenty

      i have heard of a few horror stories of them letting water in! personally i would not risk it with oun thats out of warrenty unless like you say you are going to seal it properly :-)

      @@TheMetalDetectingChannel ive got 2 800s and like diving so when the warrenty runs out ill do one like gigmaster and just silicon it to death and if i can wrap my head around how hes done it then ill do a waterproof case like philbo baggins,check out one of his videos

    The real test will be at a depth of 3 meters, where the pressure is significantly different. And this is the test "Will it leak in the rain"

      I guess you could look at it that way, if I'm been honest then I would advise nobody to use them under water without warranty still in place :-)

      @@TheMetalDetectingChannel I'm just going to buy one for underwater search. And to be honest, I'm very much afraid) The guarantee will be in place, but given how our service centers work, they can shift the blame onto the user. In order not to engage in an exchange under warranty.

      I have heard of them leaking before, and everyone had them changed by warranty so I think you will be safe.. maybe the wait for replacement might no be so fast

      No it's waterproof as it is with wireless headphones, I don't think the standered headphones that come with the 800 are waterproof though.

      Ahh sorry to hear that mate! That's a bummer. I'd maybe email Minelab and get them told. Have you checked to see if its not just the screen protector that has the water behind it? When I submerged mine for that video I thought water had got behind mine but it was the sticker only. Hope you manage to get it sorted.

      I bought mine in 2020 and never been in water it’s only got 5 hours on it. I’m wondering when it was that they fixed the problem with leaking

      Hey Stan, it's still water tight last time I had it in the river! Although it only went maybe a couple of feet for say 30mins and was fine not sure how it would do a few meters down:-/

      @@TheMetalDetectingChannel I'm still deciding on whether to get the Legend or Nox 800. I've heard 0 problems with legend so far but Nox a lot. I'll be using it snorkeling in the sea and mostly wet sand. Hard to decide

      @@stanvisualseychelles932 both great machines! We have tested the legend on a few of our videos. I guess if you used the simplex then the legends great as you will sort of be familiar with tones VDI range ect and same if you have used a minelab. I'd always go with Minelab as these have been proven for years on the beach. I hear of the horror stories of them leaking water in but you do get a 2 year warranty with the Nox :-) 😀
