  • Despite a massive focus on women in the workplace, progress towards a gender equal workplace is slow. What needs to change?
This talk calls for an equal focus on confidence, capability and childcare as the true drivers of change. It’s time to call out the current gender equality bandwagon and move on to a new, truly equal approach to work. www.womenatwork.org.uk Caroline has spent the majority of her career in the travel industry working for companies such as American Express, Cisco, Yahoo and AstraZeneca. Caroline co-founded consultancy Festive Road and has also volunteered as the Institute of Travel Management Chairman, Global Business Travel Association Europe President and has received a number of awards in recognition of her services to the industry.

This talk touches on really important points of gender equality. It is crucial to say it out loud that as human beings we face the same struggles in life. But it is society that tells us how we should react and feel. As Caroline said there's no difference in women's and men's confidence, mum's and dad's guilt. As members of the society we should acknowledge the issue and move forward.

There are two types of people in our world. People who are old fashioned and People with modern values. Some of the old fashion people pretend to be into gender equality because they want more than they already get. For example women who demand that the men be providers while not having to do anything for the man (because equality). Closet old fashioned people confuse the issue. Then you have people who think they are for equality but then still have some old fashioned values. Equality just means you do unto others as they do unto you. It is all about individuality rather then basing who someone is on gender.

The part I most agree with is the parental leave. It is discriminating against men, and yet it is reinforcing gender stereotypes. It is so ingrained into people's mind that the mother is the primary caretaker of the children that we forget that there are men who want to be present in their children's life and mothers who want to share child raising with their husbands and don't want to fully give up their careers. In some countries mothers are expected to do 99% of the work of raising children and the men are supposed to work so much they barely see their family. One of the first steps to give parents more freedom of choice regardless of their gender would be allowing the same amount of paid parental leave for both parents, and make some of this paid parental leave mandatory so that companies can't pressure men into not taking the parental leave they have the right to take.

This is such a good video and another point to add would be that often times women do not get promoted to higher positions because people think that they will not be able to be 100% reliable because they are a mom but if both men and women got the same paid time leave then there would not be that big of a bias against "working moms" which as she said shouldn't be a term necessarily when working dads isn't a term.

There's this social stigma that men are just confident in themselves and don't deal with that nagging self doubt because "oh men have it easy" let me just say, I am a man, and I recently bid on a job to move up in my company. Not even a big leap. It was literally to the next step, the first true full time position in the company ladder. And the entire 2 weeks it took for them to pick a person for that position. I was extremely stressed "oh I should have also put in for the afternoon shift because what if they don't pick me because they had one other person and then The afternoon shift gets a new hire to fill it." And "they won't pick me because I'm young and there's this female worker who probably also wants full time and is pretty good too"
I was beyond stressed and nervous and not at all confident in whether or not I'd be picked. But feminists would have you believe that I was completely cool headed and knew I was getting that position because I am a man.
I did get the position and even still I start to think every so often "did I get it because they wanted me? Or did I get it because I was the only in house bid on it?" And every day since I feel like I have to put in 200% because I am not confident.
I'm probably fine but, I lack self confidence and am constantly stressing.
Like this woman here said, confidence doesn't see gender.

    @michellenarnold8301 Před 2 lety +3

It is important to understand that the word "equal" is misused in the
society in general. "Equal" does not mean "identical". Originally,
"equality" meant that women should have the same legal rights than man
has in the society, that is, women are equal in front of the law. These
days people are so confused, they think that "equal" means "identical".
These are two different words with two different meanings. Man and
woman are not IDENTICAL and they should be EQUAL in front of law.
Unfortunately, in modern society woman now have legal rights that men do
not have, so equality in front of law does not take place in modern
society. In the legal system men are now oppressed. Indeed, they are.
Another important thing, men and woman ARE NOT enemies nor are they
supposed to be enemies. They are supposed to fulfill each others lives
and form families (I do not say to form a marriage, but to form a
family, be careful there) and both are needed in order to rise healthy
sane kids. This does not take place anymore in our society. A healthy
society regenerates itself by giving birth to new babies, an unhealthy
society stops breeding. So, who is doing this to us?

I'm a 25 girl, unmarried, and was very happy about this until I realized the down side. It's like living far from
your family - yes, you feel independent, unrestricted, and able to live for yourself.
But with age, you realize that living for yourself is entertaining, but not fulfilling.
You don't need to rush into marriage, and when you're married don't rush out of the marriage. But the journey of
life spent with another gives you something precious that can't be bought. That companionship, even if it ends
badly, is better than ending alone.
When I was younger, I looked at all the divorce out there and misery and hatred between exes, and I thought “I'm
not going to make some one miserable, I'm not going to spend my life with someone I hate” …well, that's like
saying “I'm not going to drive a car because of all the accidents.” Thats not the answer - the answer should be
to wear seatbelts, take precautions. My resolution SHOULD have been “I'm going to love my spouse, for whoever he
is, and I'm going to give him my best.” Instead, I chose to live for me, and that's who I got …just me.
Find someone to love, and give them your best. Like an ocean voyage, it may not last forever but at least you gave
it your best shot. And there may be many perils and storms, but atleast you survived them with someone. The
relationships that I've had were very special to me and I wish I had gotten married. Instead, I married my
    “independence”.
The people that get divorced and hate each other, they didn't know how to love, they were selfish - it wasn't
“marriage” that created the misery, it was their unwillingness to love each other.
Love is willing to accommodate (not a reluctant willingness, but an eager willingness), even when you don't really
want to. Even when there's no gain from it. Even when the other person is annoying, or stinky, or exhausting.
And when you can love your spouse like that, chances are your spouse will, too. And yes, it's POSSIBLE that you
might love a person who doesn't, or can't, love their spouse …and that is sad. It really is. But I'd rather go to
the Olympics and fail, than never go at all.
Love is patient, love is kind.
Love does not envy, is not boastful and is not conceited.
Love is not rude or self-seeking.
I'm waiting for the right one. If you agree with what I said, then contact my whatsapp: +447901380061
I travel around the world, and my love won't be limited by district.
    Never Ever Part As Lovers.

Being has a tendency to 'return' to clusters
='the nature of solidarity' -a desire for empathy -(Wave)-(yin)
    and also,
Being has a tendency to 'exist' as individuals
    ='the nature of self-expension' -a desire for breed-(Particle)-(Yang)
    Likewise, humans have two elements.
We must realize that we all have both left and right elements
    =Solidarity and Self reliance
No one has only one element.
so 'Sum' derived from 'two poles' , (thesis, antithesis, synthesis)
To develop intellect and ethics by harmonizing the two,
It is good to realize it and balance it properly
But A few people polarized the crowd(political partisanship)
    without balancing themselves.
And They stole only the sum, only the synthesis from the triangle composition.
Now We all have to get out of this deceptive situation.
This is not the time for us to hate each other.
We have to track down those who have been manipulating us.

When are we going to see equal.opportunities for men? What do we mean by equal opportunities? The usual interpretation is men and women having equal access to the opportunities that exist. But that is not all there is to it, is it? If we examine an opportunity two things are needed. One person to create the opportunity and another to take it on. We are all familiar with the demands for equality in the second part - quotas for women on boards, more female film directors, jobs for women, women's sports etc. When are we going to see equality in creating opportunities? When are we going to see women creating opportunities on the same scale as men do? Can you name an industry created and developed by women? Can you name an institution created and developed by women? Can you name a major company created and developed by women? Can you name a major technology created and developed by women? Can you name a sport created and developed by women? When are going to see equal opportunities being offered to men?

Long paid paternity leaves are much needed for men.
However, men need to be very wary of feminists who are pro-paternity leaves. Whenever feminists present themselves as pro-men, their hidden agenda is to further women's cause. She has given sound reasoning in favour of paternity leaves and all of it is valid. But her real agenda is to make men take long paternity leaves so that maternity leaves can be shortened and women can go back to workplace earlier and grow her career.
Feminists would pose as if they care for men when they say they are with men wanting to be present father. But they are actually for it only because it would allow them to be an absent mother.
It's the same when they say we are pro-men and want to take pressue off men to be the provider. Looks 'oh so compassionate' towards men but what they really want is men not to strive as hard as they today so women can gradually gain more financial powers.

    Interesting talk.
However, parenting is seen from the predominantly female perspective.
We talk about men having parental leave typically in the first years of the child’s life.
If men’s parental skills and interest kick’s in when the child have to get out in the world and explore and build skills, under parental guidance, how does the society of today make room for that?
Parenting is seen almost entirely through a female lens.
Men are stuck at work and we leave the socialisation to “professionals”. Typically female professionals.
