How to detect faulty RAM chip RTX30xx, RTX20xx, GTX16xx/10xx/9xx/7xx/6xx/5xx AMD RX 400/500/R7/R9/RX Vega
Here we have a look at some software to diagnose and identify faulty VRAM chips on most graphics cards. I explain where to download and how to set up the software and basic use.

I split 3.rar into four parts, each about 8Gb to make it easier to download and make it less likely for one file to hit the daily download limit. Save them all into the same folder then right click on Part1 and select UNRAR. There is no password required. This will recreate the original 32GB file.

Whats the password? - winrar asks for it to unpack
I have a problem. When i boot on non UEFI the menu shows up and if i try to choos an option ...it freezes. If i choose UEFI, it starts in RTX3000 series. Any thoughts? Thanx!

@@calin1109 For UEFI, switch on - press F8 or F12 or whatever key for your BIOS Boot Selection menu - choose EFI Partition 1 or EFI Partition 2. For UEFI AMD, you need instructions from my blog - see my comment below.

To test AMD GPUs: Select Option 3
When the text scrolls up the screen, at the end it says 'Press ENTER for maintenance or press control_D to continue'
You need to Press ENTER
Then type ls (LS but lower case) and ENTER
Now you see a list of AMD GPU models to test.
To run the test from the list type ./ then the name of the models from the list - for example ./390 for R9-390
it's nvidia gpu not amd
When I select option 3 to test a RX 470, it display about 20 lines of logging data and then locks up and doesn't accept any keyboard input. I've disabled the internal graphics and selected PCI as the display source. Are there any other bios setting I might need to make.
Found the issue: Needed to disable CPU power management in the Bios.
i tried and downloaded the whole file and tried to test an Amd card but my screen freezes at the begining and am not able to do the test, can you please help?

Every single time I get one of his videos on my recommended list I get the answers for a question that I was never able to find on the internet.
To be fair to the original creators of the this software, I basically translated it from Spanish to make it more accessible for none Spanish speakers and added a few points I worked out myself when I could not get it to work. Thanks anyway, I am sure this will help a lot of people but credit where credit is due - The original (as far as I know) publisher was Kings Overkill. As I mentioned I'm an English guy living in Spain for over 5 years now, so I understand a fair bit of the lingo but wow this guy speaks Spanish fast!

Hi, it's a great channel. Question about the gpu test, the card is gtx560ti but the test doesn't test it, it just scrolls the command lines and comes to / home. With the command Is see that there is no folder for this card. it can be inserted later and where to find it. Greetings from Serbia!

FYI guys. BIOS sometimes has issues recognizing external HDDs and the live os files often get messed up during installation as well. SSDs or USBs seem to have less issues

@draculaxx Mr. That's not something I have tried to do. I do have PCs with multi booting - for example Retro gaming rigs with XP/Win98SE and another with Win10/WinXP but I use two SSD, one for each OS, then select whichever I want to boot from the BIOS boot menu

Hello, i don't know if you will see this comment, but i do have 2 identical MSI 5700XT's that were mining for a long time; They will run furmark forever, but they will crash and reboot the system in any type of gaming load and/or 3dmark/unigine benchmark. I am guessing it's vram related, but how can i test if it's the power or gddr5 module?

I have an 1050ti that has very heavy artifacts under load. Mats passed without failure.
The vcore vrms are reading weird at the gates. Some 2 Mohm some 2 kohm. Does someone have any ideas for further diagnostics?

Hi, very informative. I have just one question. I found that on my R9 290 4GB the faulty VRAMs are A0 and B1. How do I know which VRAM coresponds to A0 and to B1? On Nvidia I know it's counter-clockwise but on AMD it isn't apparently. So, how do I know?

Actually it is anticlockwise on AMD, but where Nvidia is A1,A01 B1,B0 etc, on AMD it is A0,A1 B0,B1...

i have the same Card. the Sapphire Tri X Edtion and its been behaving really weird after i repaired it. for missing capacitors. it never boots after a long shutdown. i have to use Igpu and then go to device manager . disable and enable the card. then restart and it will work that way. and usually during any gaming sessions it would freeze entire pc. and a notification " Default wattman settings has been restored, due to driver failure" pops up/. i looked on the PCb and its still missing 2 capactiors C715 and C1281 i think. and 2 smaller componentes Named D12xx something. could that be the problem or is it a ram problem>? would greatly apperciate ur help . sorry for the long post

Thanks for the video! At 14:32 you are already at the root. Doing cd .. at that point will do nothing because its already at the root, in fact you can already see report.txt the first time you did ls. But it's not a problem, just an observation

Great video, I'm getting wierd bug where keyboard works in dos, I run the program and when completed the keyboard does not work (so can't check files) I'm guessing it's a Linux driver issue? installed on two hard drives now sata and USB but same issue.

I have problem with the third one, the extraction fails at 99% "damaged files error". I downloaded it three times, same error for the overlkill single file and as for your 4 split part files. I used jdownloader. Any help or suggest?
@T3RR0R Download the latest version of WinRAR and try that. I actually use an older version WinRAR 5.70 and that works. The files must be OK (even my split ones) as others have i working. If there was a problem with the download then you would expect to get an error at that point.

I know this is a bit late I have some questions regarding the bootable hdd. First of all great video in depth as always, I have folowed all the steps as in video and everythings works regarding Nvidia cards, however amd cards especiali polaris rx500 seriess it just post "error 13", and returns back to home directory. Have You or anyone else experience similar issues.

I run ./r9270x1 then it runs some black and white dots test and it passes, but how do i run mats? I tried some commands but say no such file or folder with the name mods or mats can be found.
I followed your tutorial but i can’t get the hdd/ssd (tried both) to boot properly into the tool menu, it just gets me to an infinite fileid 0x00006c error or my gpu won’t show with the commands of your other video where you repair a 980ti.
I’m trying to test the Vrams in my 3080ti because every once in a while i detect strange missing portions of my screen (as in a black screen) or artifacts but they only appear within a fraction of second. I don’t seem to have any issue when heavy loads of gaming, this only happens when normal navigation or when using CZcams.
Has anyone got the same issue? What can i do to make the program work?

@Radu Fx - did you try the new links I posted in the pinned comment yesterday? I split the 32Gb file into 4x 8Gb files. Is that working for you? I just tried the first part and it seems OK
just click in downloads column the next day and press the play button logo it should continue even if you turned the computer off, the files still in download just paused (thats if you didnt cancel the download when it stopped) Dont click the continue downloads in the top right alert box that pops up first, ignore that one and click "downloads" because if you press the alert that pops up in a box it usually restarts the whole thing again

I got a short circuit so I removed the cpu but still short circuit.

Where's the short exactly? Vcore? It's probably a low side MOSFET short to ground or a smoothing capacitor (one of MANY on that rail!) shorted to ground. At least its not the GPU die itself if you've removed it.
If it's shorted to 12v then probably a high side MOSFET short. The GPU die itself might be cooked in this case though, they won't survive 12 volts!
Hi Richard, thanks for this video. I tested my Nvidia 2080 card and it failed. I wish I could add a photo, but it comes down that VRAM B0, C0 and F1 generate 128 errors, E1 24 and F0 16 errors. Am I right that reballing these VRAM'ss could cure this symptom? I have an SMD workstation but first I am curious if i would do the right thing. Later I want to discuss kind of solder, temparatures, pre heating plate or not, etcetera. Anyone elso who is into this is also invited to answer.

Are we able to run a diagnostics test when a card doesn't have a video signal? I'm guessing we can change the code to have it run immediately and powerdown on its own?
Yes - as long as the video card will detect (or you can force it to ignore memory errors and detect) as a second display. I'm working on another video showing how to do this in Linux, using the integrated graphics.
There is another way, using MATS running from a USB drive to auto run on start up, save the log file and auto shut down the PC at the end of the test.

Has anyone tried to download the RAR files recently? I keep getting an error checksum right before file 3 is about to finish decompressing. I tried WinRar, then switched to 7zip thinking it was the program but I get the same error. I tried redownloading the file, disabling antivirus, did a chkdsk on my drive and it still doesnt work. Hey, is there a way to boot this image in UEFI mode at all? I want to use it on a motherboard that has ONLY UEFI and no option for legacy boot (yes, that's a thing now and there's no way around except for a BIOS hack which nobody is going to do for this obscure mobo model). The 2 tinylinux partitions can be booted in UEFI mode but then it won't launch the memory test tool, of course. Is there maybe some kind of legacy emulator that I can boot from USB in UEFI mode and which in turn can boot the hard drive in legacy mode?
I don't know exactly - I had this software for a few weeks and could not get it to work for two reasons:
First problem - it would detect the GPU but then say 'invalid register' and stop before the menu appeared - this in the end I worked out was because I needed to disable the embedded intel graphics on my motherboard - Gigabyte B85M. This may or may not apply to other setups, it's just what I worked out after no one on badcaps forum could come up with an answer. Basically played around and worked out that MATS would give this error if I ran it manually from the hard drive, then i googled MATS plus the error message and found a Chinese language forum (yeah I know the Chinese don't speak Chinese, they speak Mandarin or Cantonese mostly) and google translated that enough to understand what was happening
Second problem - The hard drive would then boot and run the a VRAM test automatically - but I could not get to the menu. This is the one I worked out by chance - in my BIOS in the BOOT order section, I had to move the hard drive to the top of the list, above the UEFI boot options, Saved that, and then it worked.
@@LearnElectronicsRepair Thanks for the tip with the onboard GPU, I think that's the problem. As I said, I could boot the 2 tinylinux partitions individually with the UEFI boot menu - I assume one is for 30 series cards and the other is for older Nvidia cards (like in the menu which you'd get without UEFI). But neither of them started the memory test with a GTX 1080 installed. Of course I didn't expect the 30 series tool to work with a 1080, but the other one showed the same error as you described and I do have an onboard Intel GPU. I'll switch the display from auto to PCI-e and try again.
And by the way, the written Chinese is actually Chinese (traditional in Taiwan and Hong Kong and simplified everywhere else), only the spoken Chinese has dialects (Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien etc.)...

I have a question. I did everything from video but I don't get the menu like you do, my test start automatic when I select boot option from my disk where I exported the partitions. So I wanted to ask have I done everything I should do or I need to edit some boot file?
1. Turn off integrated VGA on your motherboard
2. Turn off UEFI boot in the BIOS, use legacy
3 .Check this video how to use the RAM test if you don't see the menu

Hi, i have a r7 370 2g gpu when i select option 3 it stucks at filesystemtype is ext2fs, partititon type 0x83

invalid or unsupported executable format pls help
1. Download gparted-live-1.4.0-1-amd64.iso and write it on a USB stick with Rufus
2. Boot from the USB stick and when in the Gparted Live desktop open a terminal
3. Type in the terminal this command:
sudo resize2fs -s /dev/sda3
Where sda3 is the 3rd partition from the video above. This will change the filesystem on that partition from EXT4 64bit to EXT4 32bit.
Restart and boot from the HDD, select the 3rd option like you wanted, it might do a e2fsck on the first boot but should run ok after that.

When i want to test my R9 390 , i press enter at the 3rd option as you say but i get a screen which i can't type any commands or even Ctrl alt delete, there are a lot of PCI etc written on that screen and the last thing written on the bottom is [ 1.4.....] NET: Registered protocol family 1 , can anyone tell me what I've been doing wrong ?
