People saying S4 is mostly filler are really missing the point of the show. The end of S3 drops a massive bombshell just when Steven thought he was finally starting to understand who Rose was (and by extension who he is) and now suddenly he's back at square one, not knowing how to feel about Rose or himself again. S4 reflects that loss of momentum by slowing down and really forcing him to find new ways to understand & relate to people without just taking everything they and others say about them at face value anymore. Naturally this results in a lot of episodes where he's off adventuring with secondary characters (both new and already established) & not directly furthering the gem war plotline, but there's a reason the show is just called "Steven Universe" - it's primarily about his character as a whole and not just what's happening around him.
Steven knew that his mother was the leader of a rebellion where "Gems were destroyed, and people too" and fought a battle where "countless Gems were broken; it was a maelstrom of destruction and death". He's seen the forced-fusions, dealt with The Cluster, both of which were developed by the Diamonds, and should realize (from the accounts of Lapis and Centipeetle) that Corruption was created by the Diamonds as well. Why should he be shocked at Eyeball's contention?
Most of what he'd learned about Rose so far was that she valued compassion and forgiveness above all else and that she would never, under any circumstances, resort to shattering a gem. Her primary weapon is incapable of doing it (by her explicit instruction) and she literally imprisoned one of her closest allies for merely attempting it. So yes, learning that she did in fact resort to it, and at the highest level rather than finding an alternative is shocking to him, to say the least.
@@Denf0 Steven would know that his mother's "compassion and forgiveness" had limits; there had been no canonical implying that she was some kind of complete pacifist. She fought deadly battles and didn't throw in the towel when Gems or people were killed. Steven himself seemed to recognize those limits, even before learning about the Diamonds and their works, when he emphatically rejected Lapis's advice to surrender in Jailbreak.
The fact remains that during Bismuth's episode it was proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that Rose drew a hard line at deadly force. That's why Steven is so conflicted, because after experiencing her conviction first-hand she somehow still crossed that line, and he can't fathom that. So now he has to find a way to contend with that moral gray area, the fact that the gems hid something so extreme from him, and the bleak possibility that something like that could happen again while he's around and he wouldn't be able to stop it.
@@Denf0 Steven never brought up the fact that Rose's sword--assuming that it was the same sword--was deliberately made to not harm gemstones. For that matter

Steven himself apparently soon forgot that little fact, or subconsciously dismissed it because it didn't fit in with the narrative he was creating about "war criminal" Rose Quartz. To be fair, a lot of the fandom forgot what Bismuth said as well. Garnet's account of Rose Quartz's history shows that she didn't know about it either, so with the possible exception of Pearl it may be that only Rose Quartz and Bismuth knew about the sword's special limitation. As far as the other Gems (Crystal and Homeworld) knew, Rose Quartz was always capable and willing to destroy Gems personally, never mind by proxy which was proved by the Strawberry Battlefield.
Pearls animation is always amazing. When the ruby told steven what Rose did to Pink diamond, pearl looks like shes going to throw up.
That's a great foreshadowing for the promise she made for Rose
@@katsunAC SHHH I know they have prob passed this but others in the comments might not have.
If I remember correctly, this is when we get the full ending song. Correct?
its another version
Love Like You (Reprise) starts being used gradually as the end credits with season 4 until the end of season 5.
@@kidkytes6233 ahh yes. Reprise
Yeah. I meant as in the end of the first one we got
@@Beatz110yeah this is when we get the full song of the original
Yes indeed.
The threads pulling on the truth about Rose Quartz began with Bismuth, followed by Jasper and Eyeball.
It’s just making sense to me now. The reason homeworld didn’t know Steven was rose/rose’s son, was because Jasper never filed the report, they were relying on Peridot’s information which labeled Steven as a sub-species of Human.
There's a "small detail" about Pearl in this episode you could mention 😉
🙊
Bros really just predicted one of the biggest plot twists and plot points in SU
To be fair so did a lot of people, myself included. People used to call us crackpots for the Rose is Pink Diamond Theory
@@noremac7216 “THEY HATED US BECAUSE WE WERE RIGHT!”
The issue is that the gem rose quartz has only been seen by our rose. Pink diamond is a big pink gem and rose quartz is a big pink gem. Plus steven has the power zap into other gems minds something other gems can't do. Healing and mind powers are diamond powers
These episodes put me in my feels :(
Especially "Bubbbled". Steven gets so trauma and stress.
10:36
They played the ending song. That got me teared up

0:45 It's so wholesome that garnet thinks the rubies are cute/adorable
Funny how Amethyst kept thinking she has to BE LIKE Jasper
Learn that actually no she's perfect the way she is
Then the very next thing she has to do is act Like Jasper for her friends
I think it helps her realize even more that being ''like'' Jasper isn't all that
I recommend you guys to come back to this episode to review your discussions in the future. You'll know what I mean when the time comes.
Season 4 slaps i cant wait
Season 4 isn't as good as you probably remember it...
@@manupm9161 i watched the whole season again yesterday so actually
@@LeliaYT so, what do you think about the big amount of filler episodes?
@@manupm9161 imo even the filler is great, without filler I wouldnt learn to love the characters in beach city, and the steven bombs/ important episodes in this series are incredible
@@manupm9161 i think s4's heavy lore episodes hit really hard but there is that weird big gap of townspeople filler episodes i think
I've been watching all your Steven Universe videos. I hope you continue with the series cause I love seeing your reactions.
3:20 Knowing the show the single tear is either jealousy that the captain got to sit on Jasper's lap, Or that the captain's spending time with some other girl.😂 Cute all the same.
Its always fun rewatching the series and seeing every little reference to future reveals
I always wonder if I'm just an idiot or am just good at watching shows as intended bc every reaction I watch they always guess the pink/rose plot twist and I was surprised as fucking hellllll when the episode broke doing the reveal
*[That ruby is CRAZY]*
You are such a hater peridot
Eyeball? 😂 *spoilers!!*
I just realized this time watching.. she wasn’t wrong about the color of Steven’s gem! 😂
She’s the only one who’s ever scrutinized the color on screen, and everyone just dismissed it lol
I can’t believe I’m 1 hour late that’s so unacceptable lol 😂 anywho loving this series and getting to rewatch it as I see so many things I missed when watching before.
Funny thing is that some real world gems can have their coloration affected by the sun. If you leave an amethyst in the sun, it can darken to a brown color.
It's crazy these episodes aren't the finale of season 3, such a missed opportunity...
But they are? They are supposed to be
@@jdogmcfly1712 Then, why haven't they done a discussion about season 3 like in the other seasons finale?
Because people were leaving the video as soon as the reactions ended and was hurting the video so sadly we’ve stopped including them on YT
@@ProjectSenpai oh, that's a real shame, speaking of... what did you think of this season?
Now, I hope the folks in the comments behave.
Not really, huh?
Spoiler alert
Pearl shaking in the corner with her hands over her mouth... You can tell she really wanted to tell Steven about pink diamond being rose here
I love these episodes sm its when i realised the whole rose pink thing was a bit suspicious
Lmao not them already predicting the plot twist
Whaaaat😂😂
Buena reacción, la canción del ending de (amar como tu) es simplemente hermosa
4:00 lol you were here
Looks like you forgot Too Far in the last double ep and then It Could've Been Great
4:08 Dude really said "I think that's rose" lol
Ikr, foreshadowing 😂
I feel so bad for the Rubies. Forever floating in space 😭🙃 Also Pink Diamond is my favorite. I can’t wait for ya’ll to learn more about her 🫢
I love this show and all, and I think Pink Diamond gets just a TAD too much hate, but her being your favorite? I'm curious to hear you explain your reasoning (while providing a spoiler tag at the beginning so that we can fully discuss it without Project Senpai seeing it).
Oh 100% she’s my favorite. ☺️
Spoilers ahead!
Even from the very start of the series when we only saw bits of her. I always loved the mystery of the Diamonds in the earlier seasons and I genuinely thought PD and Rose were gonna be separate characters. I really loved Rose too but she gave me a vibe that reminds me so much of myself. So back in the day when there was speculation that they were the same, I came to see her in the new way of she just wanted to change and be a new “person”. I feel like I relate to PD a lot. I was sheltered a lot growing up. My parents weren’t very attentive and I’d spend a lot of time alone. So when finally PD gets a little freedom and she sees how corrupt things are with terraforming earth. She sees how wonderful life outside of home is. People call her naive and selfish to do what she did to Yellow and Blue and what Rose also to the CG’s but she didn’t know better. She showed a lot how she didn’t understand human relationships so I can understand why she didn’t think twice to ditch the diamonds. Gems are expendable and perhaps she thought they’d just move on without her. It reminded me of going no contact with a parent and either that parent comes around and changes their mind(pun intended) or stays harsh and not understanding. Idk if any of this makes sense. But I’ve always loved PD and Rose. 😅 Thanks for letting me ramble. This shows been done for so long yet I still love it sm 🥰
TLDR I see myself and my home life in PD and the other Diamonds which is one of the many reason I love PD. (She also precious af🤷🏻)
Yep especially since there's no reason they should be in space. They were on the Moonbase they should have been sucked out onto the moon. What the hell gave them enough thrust to escape the moon's gravity? I'm not usually the type of guy to get bugged by the sort of thing but it just bugs me
@@noremac7216Didn't they get saved by cute ruby.
@@Art-X-W don't know it doesn't stop it from bugging me that they're in space at all. They should have been sucked on to the Moon
Yes this episode!!
Hi everybody
Onto season 4!
I don't usually nitpick but I absolutely cannot stand that for some reason getting sucked out of the moon base propelled Steven and the rubies into space. It should have just sucked them out onto the moon, there's no way there was enough force from the release of pressure in the moon base to launch them outside of the moon's gravity. I do not know why this bothers me so much but I absolutely hate it, they could have had them get sucked off of the ship after they had taken off to go back to Earth and I would be able to suspend any remaining disbelief. But the fact that they open the door on the moon and somehow ended up drifting in space is so goddamn dumb
It’s a just cartoon my dude 🤣
@@ProjectSenpai so?
Oh jeez, I never thought of that. I was bothered by Steven having air in his bubble despite forming it in space (and even if some air came with him to get trapped in the bubble, he opened the bubble multiple times). But oh well.
@ColinTedford I assume the bubble makes it's own air. I can suspend disbelief for magic stuff, but getting blasted into space by a pressure release bugs me bc you can't explain it away with magic
Day 2 of asking for hilda
Senpai, are you going to continue your mlp friendship is magic reactions?
Truth be told, to me Back to the Moon and Bubbled, both when they premiered and in retrospect, have elements that mark another major change in SU, and continue certain trends that started earlier (e.g. Hit the Diamond) that do not contribute to my admiration for the series.
Bubbled was also the first episode that I can recall was specifically hyped by the Crewniverse--perhaps they did the same for earlier episodes, but that would have been before I got into the show---and I felt the product was not equal to the hype.
The Rubies were rendered completely helpless by Lapis. There was no need to do any fancy trickery to get rid of them; poof them, bubble them and be done with them. Amethyst's first proposed course of action back in Hit the Diamond--"LET'S AMBUSH THEM!"--seems to have been a better choice in the long run.
Ultimately, the real purpose of the plot of Back to the Moon was the big reveal, which shouldn't have had that much of an impact. I can't go further because of both near- and long-term spoilers, but when Steven opened the airlock door, he did it in a spirit of anger that was previously uncharacteristic of him. Five Rubies in fusion may have been a fairly tough opponent, but I doubt they'd be a match for Sugilite's wrecking ball or Sardonyx's hammer if Garnet decided to fuse with either Amethyst or Pearl. Steven pretty much got himself into the perilous situation of Bubbled thanks to his
impulsive action.
Eyeball's an idiot. The other Rubies may also be typically dim-witted, but did they deserve their fate of being cast into space? Instead of sharing GAP's relief at their in-the-nick-of-time rescue of Steven, I was asking myself, "but what about the Rubies?"
To be fair the color of his gem IS.... erm nothing.
Spoiler warning for the rest of the series
man, rewatching this, i cant help but feel like the eventual plot twist is entirely bullshit. the entirety of stevens arc and rose quartz's image were shaping up really nicely just to throw it all off a window for the sake of what at this point was a crackpot theory. It doesn't pay anything off meaningfully, it doesn't add to rose's or steven's characters. it's a purely shock value twist. i resent it so much because this series was so good, man
It’s whatever if you didn’t relate to the more complicated parts of their characters that the show started exploring, but the thingy was planned since before the show started and baked into its concept. You’re spreading misinformation, man.
3:21 where you expecting a tear from the GEM? lmao
