I’m 70 and still have my original copy bought in 1974. It’s one of those rare classics with no filler

Don’t have any Trower on vinyl but saw them twice back in the day. I’m 65 and I’ve been a huge Trower fan since I was a teenager.

Saw Robin play this in 1974 Erie, Pa. Went to the after concert party, had a few beers and smoked a joint with Robin. We laughed heartily, lol.

my all-time favorite Robin Trower song! The Bridge of Sighs (Ponte dei Sospiri) is actually one of the most famous walking bridges in Venice Italy!! Told you man, the whole album is amazing!!! 🙂However, Robin is not the singer, the bass player is!!
Called Sighs because prisoners crossed it to go into an awful place and "sighed" as they took one last look at the beautiful city and their freedom.

The bridge oh sighs .."The view from the Bridge of Sighs was the last view of Venice that convicts saw before their imprisonment. The bridge's English name was bestowed by Lord Byron in the 19th century as a translation from the Italian "Ponte dei sospiri", from the suggestion that prisoners would sigh at their final view of beautiful Venice through the window before being taken down to their cells" Once you were put in the cell, the metal door was welded shut until after you died. The 28 seconds it took to cross was called by inmates 'the longest hour of their life'. That's why the song sounds like time is dragged out. When you know this, the song will sound different.

My first day at college (Sept 75) a long hair I'd never met pulls up in his van (completely carpeted inside) says "Hop In". Puts Bridge of Signs into the tape player and we smoke numerous blunts for at least 2 hours driving around picking up more long hairs along the way. Great way to start the college life!!!
I find it amazing what you said about Echoes. I'm 60 years old and have been to 5 Pink Floyd concerts. When I heard Echoes for the first time, I was 8 or 9. Meddle was played on a college radio station and it changed my entire perception of what music was with this amazing creativity. I don't think Robin Trower brings me to a place like Pink Floyd, but he does grab you and make you drift into his music. I always loved this album.

Yes, Bridge of Sighs is real in Venice, but Ive read that Robin saw a racehorse in the paper named Bridge of Sighs.
The bridge of sighs is a covered bridge in Venice, connecting a prison to the execution building.
I saw Robin Trower in 1976 at GVSU ( Grand Valley State University ) and this was a great show. He was like a white " Hendrix " and James Dewar's vocals always seemed to be overlooked. The entire album was great stuff.
Music is a great time machine. I've gone back 50 years listening to your show.

Awesome album, you should do the entire thing! 70s Trower is beyond belief with a string of great albums and legendary songs. Bridge of Sighs live often drifted past 10 minutes, he squeezed every drop of emotion out of his Fender Stratocaster. Enjoy!

Great reaction to the Robin Trower Band.This album was one of the best in 1973.Not a bad song on it.Too Rolling Stoned and Fool In Me are two more from this that you will like.I saw this tour in 1974 in St.Louis and it was great.Thanks for this one.

First three albums - Twice Removed From Yesterday, Bridge Of Sighs and For Earth Below are GREAT albums and highlight a power trio second to none. Trower is IMO the greatest guitarist on the planet and is still playing to this day, after Jimi of course. Only one Jimi as there is only one Robin. Enjoy. Oh, the bass player and vocalist was James ''Jimmy'' Dewar. Again IMO one of the greatest rock vocalists EVER. Could sing everything, every style with a voice gifted by God. RIP Jimmy.

I played this on repeat back when I was a stoner. It was his best album. Nothing else he did matched it. Brings back some fuzzy memories.
The bridge was the entrance to a prison and for most that meant certain death. That's what this song is about.
This was one of many songs from this era, were you would find me down in the basement laying on my back with all the lights turn off with the old cabinet style kenwood speakers hooked up to a aiwa and a pioneer playing the LP😊

'Bridge Of Sighs'! What a great guitar riff. I've played at the parties I used to go to back in the 80s. It always went over well, but I figured it would considering the crowd I hung out with, if you know what I mean. The moan made by that guitar - superb. When you get the tone right and your fingers are warmed up, very satisfying to play.
Some have compared Robin to Jimi. I wouldn't want to spend time on that topic, but I do feel that Robin was at least as experimental trying to get new sounds into his universe. Besides, I've seen both play. With Robin, I study what he does. I can follow it. With Jimi, it's always WTF!? That guy was in a different dimension.

Top notch album I saw the original group when this album came out one of the best rock concerts ever Robin was about 12 to 15 feet up on top of the speakers with a fog machine filling up the venue with fans blowing the fog well he was playing it was unfrkn real

I saw these guys in about 1975, J Giles band opened for then. imagne hearing this after J Giles "My Baby is A centerfold"

**** I have always respected Robin Trower as a guitarist. The Bridge of Sighs album takes him to much deeper levels of emotion. It is obvious that he was going through a time of introspection and sorrow when he wrote these songs. You can feel the yearning in his soul, especially with "In This Place". James Dewar has the perfect vocal to express the sadness and emptiness, that Robin was feeling. It is impossible to not be emotionally moved by In This Place.
I grew up on this in a time with no internet, no cell fines. Band information came from music magazines Circus magazine. Never knew the bass player sang and was a black dude. Way Kool.
The bassist/vocalist - the late Jim Dewar - was a white Scottish guy; it was the drummer - the late Reg Isidore - who was black.
I saw Robin Trower in a little venue in San Diego in the early 80s on a weeknight. Your reaction extreme Deja Vous for me amazing Keep it up bro

One of my all time favorites! At the time, they were a group named Robin Trower. Robin on guitar, James Dewar on bass and vocals and Reg Isidore on drums. Robin said he was reading the horse racing section of the newspaper when he spotted a horse named Bridge Of Sighs, and thought that would be a great song title.

Brilliant is right, saw him a dozen times from 1974 - 1999, including twice in the front, within feet of him blasting out Bridge of Sighs. It was like being struck with musical lightning, we were all stunned up front.
And that album is trowers masterpiece the worst track is fantastic
