Another Drug Bust! State Trooper Escamilla seizes 79 pounds of 🌿marijuana🌿 en-route to Alabama

(Trooper Escamilla stops the driver, James Revels, for failure to maintain lanes, resulting in the seizure of approximately 79 pounds of illegal marijuana with an estimated street value of $158,000, according to the state police.)
On 11-12-23 I, Trooper A. Escamilla was traveling on Interstate 40 near the 179 mile marker. I observed a Crystler Pacifica
bearing Florida LPN (38BNYR) failed to maintain its lane an hit the fog line in the number 1 lane. I initiated a traffic stop on
Interstate 40 near the 178 mile marker. I made contact with the driver identified as James Revels. I advised James of who I
was, the agency I represented and the reason for the stop.
As I made contact with James, it should be known that a strong odor of marijuana came from inside of the vehicle. I asked
James for his driver’s license and for the vehicle information. I asked James to exit the vehicle and come to mine to continue
the traffic stop.
I asked James where he was traveling and he stated the following. James was traveling from Oklahoma City and traveling to
Bradenton Florida (Tampa area) to visit his uncle. I looked at his rental agreement which stated the following. The vehicle was
rented on November 11, 2023 at 6:28 PM in Tulsa Oklahoma by Revonda Quigley and was to be returned on 11-12-23 at 6:21
PM in Tulsa Oklahoma. I asked James why the Rental agreement stated that the rental was for one day and James stated that
due to lack of Funds, he intended on calling the rental company to tell them that he was going to return the vehicle a little later
than expected. Due to the odor of Marijuana coming from inside of the vehicle I had James step out of my front seat and sit in
the rear of my vehicle. I asked James how much marijuana was it that he was traveling with. James stated “none”. I then
advised him that I could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside of the vehicles in which he responded “you can?”.
I advised James that a PC search of the vehicle would be done.
In the rear of the SUV was a dark cloth like material concealing something under it. Under the cloth were 4 trash bags which
contained several vacuum sealed packages of Marijuana. I then placed James under arrest. I read James his miranda rights
and James agreed to speak to me without an attorney present. James stated that he was traveling from Oklahoma City and
was traveling to Montgomery Alabama to make the delivery of the marijuana. James stated that he did not know the weights
but stated that he met some individuals in a parking lot in OKC who gave him possession of the marijuana to deliver. James
stated that due to lack of income, he resorted to transporting marijuana. James stated that his family member rented the vehicle
and that they were not aware of what James was doing.
James was placed in a holding cell while I made a count of the packages. Inside of 4 bags contained 79 packages of
Marijuana.
James was arrested and charged with:
Possession of Schedule 6 with Purpose to deliver, drug paraphernalia and
Use of another persons property to facilitate a crime.

4. He did swerve which is sign of nervousness or intoxication, if he was actually drunk then she wouldnt think there was weed, but

I live in Oklahoma, on I-40 they only pull over out of state plates. I can go 85mph into 45 in a construction zone and they won’t stop me. They use the construction zone to pull over people from out of state.

A friend of mine got pulled over recently here in Little Rock for expired tags. The cop said he smelled weed and conducted a search. Only problem was she did not smoke or possess any weed.

The dogs are being challenged because they always "alert" off camera, near front bumper, as far from the stuff found (if any) as possible in the vehicle.
Falsify enough evidence and your methods become illegal to use.
Had a similar thing happen, they are just trying to arrest people. Gives them more of a reason to have the job. Not to mention that’s what the politicians and private prison owners want too. 79 pounds of marijuana gives off a very potent smell. She had her head inside his vehicle and undoubtedly smelled it. Unfortunately, courts have ruled that the odor of marijuana gives an officer the probable cause to search a vehicle. But since she didn't tell the driver the reason, a good defense lawyer might have a shot.

When you are in a situation like this you see all the cars driving by on the highway and wish you were like them just passing by. You try to go back in time in your mind and change your decision only to realize you have a whole court process to go thru and some prison time before you can make life right again 😮 Plus with a new felony that person may soon feel the ultimate rejection from life that many can not handle which may send them in a drug spiral which may cause new crimes and homelessness. The drug world can make you a lot of money but the risks are great

People saying she was tipped off - it could either be that, or she’s dealt with the same thing a few times and expects this now. Because she asked how much marijuana do you have in the BACK. Out of everywhere in that big van, she knew exactly where the weed was. Walked right to the back of the van and opened it up, walked back to her car and arrested him. Didn’t even look in the bag or anything.
When the smell is strong and she looked in the backseat thru the windows a couple times then it’s obviously in the back.

There is probably another 100-200-300 stops where she violated peoples rights and found nothing. I lived in CA for much of last 2 decades and would drive back to Chicago for holidays every year. I got pulled over a few times in Utah. Every time didn't break any traffic laws and its same BS. Oh we observed you swerving, are you intoxicated? Then proceeds with we smell marijuana, which lead to my car getting torn apart. Then after they find nothing, rather than apology... Dogs alerted to it! You must of had drugs in your car! Freaking bullshit. Cops pulling stuff like this need to see prison time.

The guy gave Trooper Ana respect, full compliance, and no trouble. Other than the lie about having no marijuana, he behaved well in the circumstances. That's why she cuffed him in front--her way of acknowledging decency. Too bad, he served in the military for 6 years. Bad decision, hope he takes this to heart and goes straight from now on.

Outside of the smell, which is an obvious problem, the answer to police questions is always “I don’t answer questions”. If you happen to be transporting weed, you may also want to use multiple vacuum seals, and possibly some coffee to aid in the subterfuge.

I don’t live in the U S but from watching so many of these stops I know never transport drugs in rentals. The cops look for rentals and pull them over for made up traffic violations then pretend to smell marijuana so they can search you vehicle. Also hiding your drugs might help than having big bags in view from the rear window.

And law enfoncement aren't required to wear seat belts, just as they are allowed to use cell phones while driving. That too, is in the law. When they are off duty, then yes, those civilian laws would apply.
