  • Baofeng has updated their UV-17R to the UV-17Rplus. Here's a quick look at this radio. You'll spend more on groceries in a day than the cost of this radio, you can probably stand to lose a few pounds anyway right?

New subscriber. I love your demeanor. I am new to amateur radio or more truthfully, I know absolutely nothing except how to turn the radio on 🤣

Thats a pretty big display. Does it have the SYNC menu option to display frequency & channel name simultaneously?

Not that I know of.....You can place the main band in Channel mode and the sub band in VFO mode and then make sure they are set to the same memory location. You'll have freq and name displayed at the same time. Unfortunately this defeats being to monitor 2 different frequencies at the same time - if both are set to the same memory channel.

@@higginsreport WOW thats too bad. I contacted Radioddity a while ago & they said only two Baofengs do this & are for sale on the Euro market. (not for sale here in USA). I really like the quality & size of the UV-17, but that no - SYNC is a deal killer. Might as well go back to my UV-82 with 2 line display.

Of course it's a matter of opinion....my opinion is the plus is worth the extra 10 bucks or so. The USB battery alone is a step up in my book.

I have 4 of these, batteries suck! Don't buy this radio.

I haven't had any problems yet? I wonder if it's an issue with the charger? The manual says not to charge until depleted. I generally end up throwing it back on the charger way before it's depleted. I guess time will tell. Thanks for watching!

@@higginsreport The battery depletes too quickly for being 1800mAh. Standby time with no radio traffic for 10 hours kills the battery. On all my radios.

@@MrPoisony The plus should come with a 2500 mah battery. I will have to try doing some tests. thx

@@higginsreport You are right, I'm sorry. I do not have the Plus version, I apologize. They must have fixed the battery with the Plus version. Hope you have a better experience with the Plus than what I had with the non-Plus version.

@@higginsreport I believe the battery is 7.4 volts which requires you to use the Baofeng Wall Wart. Some people see the standard USB connector on the other ens of the cable and figure they can charge it with a standard 5VDC Wall Wart. Not so.
