  • My review of the Avanti III speaker from 2001. Compare them to my baseline speaker and evaluate their performance in multiple areas and they outperformed everything! Amazing speakers.
    Test gear:
    McIntosh MC2105 amplifier
    Pioneer Elite C-90 preamp
    Pioneer Elite DV-46AV CD player

    I can't hear them from here, but those may be the most beautiful speakers ever! I think you meant to say styling was a 20. LOL

      I KNOW! It was tough not giving them a better score, but WOW, right?

      They are quite nice and have a look all their own. Oddly, I think the upgraded veneer would have made them bland.

    keep 'em coming! so enjoyable to watch and great review. I moved away from bass reflex design to transmission line loudspeakers. I feel like these need an audition.......Thankyou

      Yeap, I am getting ready to dig into the IMFs here. They just are not giving me what I think they should be, so planning to do a recap to see if that makes a difference.

    For what would now be considered vintage, you ought to give the original Boston Acoustics A series a spin. With those, I'd recommend the A150, A200 and A400 series. Thanks for another great video.

      Oddly, and hard to believe, I have yet to own any. I am aware they are highly regarded and will certainly pick some up when I run across them.

      He's all over the place. From tin can Minimus 7's to $11,000 speakers. I think I'd drop comparing all speakers to 1970s Advents (or any other speakers for that matter). Also I'd drop trying to be a reincarnation of the old Consumer Guide To Stereo & Tape Equipment periodical, where they did all kind of tests and gave each product a numerical rating like 7.6 or 8.9 etc. Which was strange to more than a few. Especially the more knowledgeable! They were sometimes right about a product; they played a part in me picking a good headphone. But they were also very wrong about other things that they raved about like Technics SB 7000 speakers, which back then were among the most colored and nasal I've ever heard, despite some good qualities. If I felt it necessary to be gimmicky and do numerical ratings, I would not lump in how much I like somethings looks, with its numerical rating. Stuff which sounds worse but looks a little glitzier ends up getting a higher rating than something that sounds far better. Kind of defeats the whole purpose! Don't know why the silly numerical ratings. Bad ideas can always be dropped in the garbage can I guess, in an effort to be taken more seriously.

    As a middle class guy, I'd hope you'd keep the Advents as your base, or maybe something just a small step up. It's nice looking at speakers I can afford or kind of afford. These are not them.

    • @stereoniche
      @stereoniche  Před 5 měsíci

      Understand completely. The higher end will be a very small class/volume of speakers at the level. The vast majority will be in the Advent mid-level range and I have no plans to replace the Advent as my baseline in that category.

    I own exactly the same pair, just an amazing sounding speakers!
    I need to match a integrated amplifier for them, around 3K$ do you have a recommendation?
    Thanks!

      I am primarily a vintage guy, so these are a bit newer than what I typically collect, but a nice Krell, Audio Research, etc. of similar vintage would be good.

    Have you heard Yamaha Soavo-1 black piano? This is a special modification of Soavo.

    • @stereoniche
      @stereoniche  Před 2 měsíci

      Hi there. I have not heard any of the Soavo models. They are much newer than the vintage gear I typically seek out, the Audio Physic Avanti sort of just fell into my lap.
