- Showtime’s hit comedy-drama, Shameless, ran for 11 seasons and had pretty much everything we could want from a television show. It was laugh-out-loud funny and raunchy, but it also featured poignant human moments that made us bring out the tissues -- all while constantly pushing the boundaries of television, which made it all the more compelling to watch.
But after 11 years on the air, it only makes sense that actors would move in and out of the series' cast. Were these TV stars unhappy with the show or was their time on the long-running hit just up? These are the reasons why so many stars decided to quit Shameless.

i found out that the original girl who played mandy(like in the very early seasons) was uncomfortable with where her character was going and quit which is why we see a new actress later on in the show

Right because right after Emmy left they pretty much never talk about Fiona in the show they mentioned her a couple times but when do you ever see them on the phone pretending to be on the phone with her or something else it’s like they completely forgot about her but I’m really hoping that Emmy does return for the season finale of the show
It’s weird, right? For her to have done so much for them and to have such a big part, you’d think she’d get mentioned. Even V, her best friend, doesn’t talk about her.

the fact that most of the stars left because of issues with pay or the show runners posed me off so much. these characters are so strong and they deserve to be kept on the show, especially fiona, ian, mickey and the other characters.

I think secretly they left not because if pay. But because the writers subjected them to constant political and social diatribes they may it have agreed with. They absolutely ruined the last 2 seasons with the every other line jab at politics. But alas, Hollywood believes they hold a superior candle to everyone else, and they think the peasants are just dying to hear their opinions.

Frank, Kevin, Ian and Micky...Micky overtook Kevin as the funniest character imo, obviously the writers made that happen, considering Micky was pretty unlikable for the most part up until the last few seasons.

Out of all the Gallaghers Lip was the most interesting. From being the family genius to struggling with alcoholism. He was literally on his way to becoming his father.

I absolutely hated Karen and her storyline she's a absolutely great actress I just hated her storyline with lip when I watch those seasons I just skip those parts lol there's only 2 times I do that in this show that storyline and the whole Debbie wanting a baby and her obsession with Derek I can't stand that either but other then that I agree Mandy was excellent I liked Jimmy to Sheila was great as well

Season 10 was still good, even though Fiona dint contribute to it. But something about season 11 seems off, it's like the characters aren't shameless anymore. They're more like law abiding citizens of US. The entire story line was ruined because of corona, but still seasons 1-9 literally gave me chills.

I kind of expected frank to make more. Simply because he is a much more famous actor who is kind of the face of the show. However obviously Fiona is a large character who should have been payed almost as much as frank
Frank is seen as the protagonist (hard to believe) so I wasn’t super surprised he’s paid the highest. But Emmy is also female and we do often get paid less even though she’s a main character.

fiona leaving was really sad but (to me) shameless is a good show and will always be fun to watch no matter what happens. And everyone is saying that shameless changed a lot but i just don't see it, It's still the same funny, emotional, chaotic shameless to me.
She was the the second center to the show..after she left..it wasn't the same.. she is beautiful..and her character was unmatched..but they were butchering her character before she left

She produced many of the episodes. She helped produce how her characters portrayal. In her eyes it wasn’t butchered.

I'm rewatching now on Netflix and I completely agree that Emma should have been getting paid more. Honestly the whole consistant Gallagher family should have been making the same amount cause the show was essentially about all their lives.

Emmy easily should have been paid the most especially since she was naked so often. She gave vulnerability in so many ways. Also Sheila, Svetlana were soooo missed. I Really wish they all came back in the end.
I mean, the show ran its course. They were all bound to want out sooner or later. The fact that it lasted as long as it did in this day and age is pretty impressive.
I hoped for several more seasons, truly sad that it had to stop. First 5 seasons, was absolutely riveting acting and extremely entertaining well done

Came across this show just like 7 hours ago and im obsesseeed its literally like 4am rn i cannot stop watching and ofc im only in season 1 but couldnt help myself do some research of this show. Did not know it has so many seasons! Will enjoy this through my summer break
I grew up in a family not all that different than that. My parents weren't around and spent most of my teens living with my aunt and her kids and it kinda like the wild west there and I could basically do anything I wanted but she cared and she took care of me and was there to pick me up every time I fell down. Fiona reminds me a lot of my aunt Beth

I used to love the Shameless series; however, I stopped watching around 2017/2018 because it just started going downhill and wasn't interesting anymore. It was palpable that the writers were running out of steam and were lacking quality ideas for storylines. The series was in its prime during the first four or five seasons and I couldn't get enough of it. My husband and I watched it religiously. It was hysterically funny, but it also had some great drama. Joan Cusack leaving was a huge loss. The series was never the same after she left. She played the Sheila character remarkably well and brought so much humor. As more and more of cast members gradually started leaving the series, it just became incredibly dry and boring. It wasn't holding my attention at all like it used to. I really think that they forced this series to keep going well past its prime. They should have ended while they were on top.

I never liked Kev and Vs role...other than their friendship and support of the Gallaghers and being nar owners, the roles were unnecessary. Sorry to say but the acting was sub par.
Sheila brought layers upon layers of intrigue to the show. The only 2 people who kept me interested in the end was Liam and Frank and his best friends rel'p (Luiz Guzman). At this point, Season 10 Guzman leaving...it's like having a great weekend party and then everyone goes home and it's boring and kind of empty.
I don't even care if I continue watching.
V and Kevin are getting on my nerves...a little overboard.

Fiona was gone by second season of Shameless UK, the fact that they kept Ms.Rossum as a primary character for most of the series should show her importance to the story.

It went downhill after they write out jimmy steve. In my mind Fiona still ended up with him in the end. That being said they never should have let Emmy leave because after she did I knew the show was doomed. They focused more on Debbie as the lead female character and she was so damn unlikeable. Also, Sheila was the best character for me. Joan cusack was so hilarious

I’ll prob catch hell for saying this but season 11 Shameless US version has so far aired 4 episodes, 2 of which was solely based around the issues going on in the world this last year.
I’m sorry but isn’t a tv shows job to make us laugh & escape the worries of the world?? This season is just making us relive that dumpster fire of a year and I personally could do without that. Give us the Shameless we know and love!!

People are quick to jump to sexism and inequality when it comes to pay difference without recognizing other factors. In any profession seniority and accolades play a huge role in salary. William H Macy has been acting since before Emmy Rossum was even born and has been nominated for an academy award. It’s not the patriarchy.
He's just a way better actor and the reason a lot of people watched the show. Personally when I saw that an actor like him decided to star on a show, I immediately assumed it was good. That and the crush I had on Emmy Rossum lol. But his presence was what made me interested in actually watching the show.
We loved it when it first came on but as seasons progressed we started losing interest in it. We popped in on season 11 and it is a shell of the former show. The actress playing Debbie is passable but she is no Emmy Rossum. It should have ended when Emmy left.

Emmy Rossum was Freak n awesome. My heart broke regularly understanding how unfair Fiona's life was. Everyday doing the role of Mother & Father, sacrificing herself, her happiness to serve her siblings.

Cameron Monaghan most likely wanted to leave so he could pursue other projects, like Gotham for instance. He also did the mo-cap for a video game in his time off as well, that Star Wars RPG I haven't played yet.

As shitty as Frank was as a father it still hurt me that he died the way he did. I really wish Fiona was apart of the season finale.
Shameless was a very different/better show back in the Steve/Jimmy days. It's still always been really good, and above average compared to a lot of other shows over the years, but the first few season were WAY BETTER.

most of the main people like cameron and emmy were unhappy with the creative direction of the show. the reason mickey came back was because that was the only way they were getting cameron back. emmy wanted to do other projects.
Cameron (Ian) decided to leave because he felt like they used up all the storylines for Ian. He didn’t like how the character was going, so he wanted to leave. They brought back Noel (Mickey) to try and prevent Cameron from leaving permanently, and he came back
Honestly growing up poor. I can relate to the Gallaghers on a personal level. this show was something different and showed a different dynamic of reality.
The way they basically booted her character out was such a disappointment I can still remember how upsetting it was that they essentially made her out to be a spiraling mess

Had no idea everybody is gone. I really wish they ended the show when it was at its peak… they are giving it the walking dead treatment now. Same show , whole different character cast and story lines lol… this show had so much heart in the first 5-6 seasons
I’m what about the actress who played Mandy I mean they sort of replaced her with sandy but still I would love to see Mandy return in a sandy mandy episode
I just finished the show and I forgot about Sheila but I loved her character so much lmaooo she was one of the funniest characters to me
