Part 1: • Morris Day on Joining ...
In this clip, Morris Day spoke about the star studded cameos in the "Jerk Out" music video and how the group disbanded soon after that time. Morris Day explained how his life took a downturn after the band parted ways. He said at his lowest point he slept on his sister's apartment floor.
Later, Morris Day spoke on Prince asking his band to open for him but getting snubbed at the last minute. - Zábava
Morris Day’s role in Purple Rain made the movie great, no doubt about it.
Stole the movie honestly
Agreed
I agree moving wouldn't be as good without him
“how’s the family?” Hilarious!😅
All of his songs were written by Prince
Morris real for not taking credit for a quote he didn't make up he could've easily lied 🤔
Yeah, that's definitely an old saying.
Class act and character even when noone is looking. Especially when you have a world of entertainers that like to create a mythology around them that makes them a superman.
@@funkpill Strangely enough I only heard that quote for the first time last month in a club. That was at the end of the night when the bouncer kept saying it over and over.
@@tlig 😎👍
TK gave him that line
Morris Day is right tho
His character really boosted the Purple Rain movie and added something that made it what it was. Phenomenal job by him!👏🏾
Prince needed a professional foil. Morris was perfect. It's bad enough with an abusive father then having to butt heads with MD?
Moron, that was ALL created by Prince, even the role AND character of Moroniss Day.
Without Prince, there would NEVER have been that figure you are talking about.
@@JohnSmith-ez8dn What you said. Morris is playing a Prince character.
@@JohnSmith-ez8dn what are you talking about. Most actors have absolutely nothing to do with the creation of a project. But if you have a larger role or an extremely popular part, it’s not unheard of to get a bonus if the movie was successful. That’s what he’s talking about. He’s not claiming to have written or produced it. You might not understand this. But it doesn’t matter how great a script is, or a director, or photography or anything else. The main thing that makes a movie are the people acting in it. Every part is important but the people acting in it will make or break any project.
A Tsylor
And thats why the contract is signed before shooting begins; had he known the character portrayal he played would be a hit he would’ve asked for said stipulations but since it was his first movie and no idea he signed and got paid what he was supposed to get!
Hindsight makes geniuses of the dummy in all of us! The genius and most part wealthy in us is the visionary and those with foresight which obviously wasn’t him but the man behind the mask!
Prince was so cheap he taught himself how to play every instrument, how to write songs, how to sing, how to produce and market himself in order to save money.
Bottom line, ya just get paid upfront with that reputation, or you just dont work for Prnce! Yup! Easy.
Course Morris is still around.. Cheap Prince ain't. Good on you Morris for kicking the drugs that Prince couldn't
Yall call him cheap but he taught himself how to be a jack of all trades as far as music concern

I met Prince years ago in New York. He had a 3 night stand at Radio City Music Hall. I worked across the street from there at record company, was on a break and saw him standing near 30 rock which was right around the corner, I looked at him and said "Whats up Prince", and he said "whats up brother". That was it...he was cool. I'm sorry to hear he was a bad friend though.

I went to visit my sister in Minneapolis and as it ends up, she had been friends with him. She basically knew just about every celebrity in the area due to the fact that she was the booking person for the big arena in Minneapolis. She introduced him to me as "Prince Roger". (He wasn't super famous yet) I would have thought him gay but that little dude had like 3 super hot chicks with him. He's like 5'3" and had girls treating him like he was an alpha. It was the first time I had seen a super tiny effeminate man with that much game.
So glad I grew up in the 80’s!!! Great music, movies and sports.
I'm tryna bring it back lol
I met someone once who was on the SNL backstage staff and I asked them "who was the biggest asshole to ever be on SNL?"- before I could even finish asking the question they said "Oh, Prince- without a doubt. He wouldn't even acknowlege the presence of one of the cast members when they said hello. Just completely ignored them like they weren't even there"

Man I'd love to catch a Morris Day and the time show. Badass musician, showman, and dresser. Pure class right here.
@mike dimone daaaang! Pebbles. I almost forgot about her. Remember Apollonia? She was finer than wine.
Class? Not as a human being, cause talking like this about the Man that CREATED you and your so called "Career" isn't very brave, especially since he never had the balls to speak these things, when Prince was still alive.
This alone shows, what kind of a person Moronis Day is, a jealous cowards, alcoholic and jackass.
He seems very humble and also seems calm and wise because he has come to terms and accepted things the way they are not how he wants them to be. That takes a lot of honesty as well as humility.
I love Morris, he needs more visibility on film. He’s a legend. He’s that uncle you’d love to have around.
@catcall569. LOL a 'legend', it seems you have a blur idea who might be elevated to be considered a legend.
Prince wanted out of a contract with a record label...they said...if you do this; you can no longer perform as Prince. His response "I am now a SYMBOL...the artist formerly known as Prince!...CHECK MATE! The best move ever!
FACTS & that shit was EPIC!!!!
Dumbest move ever.
A lame assed facade.
The idea of being the symbol instead of Prince was great idea. However, the execution of that plan wasn't very good. His sales dipped and he spent the next few years dabbling in obscurity and musical purgatory. He was pushed off the radio and no label would work with him. He struggled to find other ways to put out his music but ended up signing with Arista in a big money deal for one album.

This interview is awesome! I've been watching it every day when new episodes post.

Jerk Out is a song that Prince originally wrote for another in-house group called Mazerati. That first version is funky as hell.
I remember my father (R.I.P. Dad) in the early 80s use to know I listen2 a lot of Prince music. He ask me one time, why do I liked his music so much... but one thing he said to me about Prince back then, that I wasn’t aware of, because I was a kid then. He said, “he would hate to work for Prince because he looked mean & very controlling.” I never understood how he knew this about him when he never listened to his music at all. The only reason he was aware of Prince was because of me listening to his music and having his poster on my wall in my room. My father passed away in the late 80s, but it still puzzled me how he was able to read Prince personality just by looking at him.
Rest in peace to your dad
Your father was a smart man. RIP.
wow... amazing rip to ya pops
Maybe he watched Purple Rain without you knowing?

Morris Day and the Time! Their music and shows are classic! They are an amazing part of my life's soundtrack!
I was a lil kid in the 70's so I wasn't old enough to relate to "SUPERFLY", GOLDIE, or any of the iconic characters of that decade. Morris Day was my 1st introduction to. calm, COOL,& collected.
“I don’t really worry about what people say about me. It’s more a reflection of who they are.” ~ prince RIP.

The truth.
He can claim that.....but it wasn't a reflection of who THEY were.....it was just simply the truth. Greatest performer of all time was an arrogant and self centered asshole who worshipped himself. A person cannot be blamed or faulted for speaking true statements. If it is a reflection of that person's self then in this case it is a reflection of the truth, therefore the person speaking those words about Prince was literally the Truth.
Did you even watch the clip? These Prince Stans are pathetic.
Prince was (or at least could be) arrogant, inconsiderate, & cheap -- And Morris would know, as they were like brothers, hence their love-hate relationship

Not very surprising to hear this about Prince. As much as I miss the little genius, let's not forget that being a god at doesn't mean you're likely to be a swell, down-to-earth guy (which Morris apparently is). I could easily pick at Prince's faults all day; they were numerous and well-documented. This was a fair, believable story and I enjoyed it.
Awesome interview, seems like a REAL good dude!!
Musicians don’t get paid nearly what they’re worth, especially back then.
Because good/talented musicians are actually a dime a dozen. All can be replaced with others who are just as or even more talented.
I can see you there. There’s a lot of talent in the world. But you can’t tell me that there’s anyone in the world that will make the same exact music as me or any other individual. That’s why art is beautiful. Everyone has their own take and no other person can create the same exact thing as that person organically. I just wish the people who don’t create were more appreciative of the art that is made. But a perfect world doesn’t exist and we have to make it work! 🤙🏻
Neither do teachers, nurses, or the people that flip your burgers.
Long story short the Time were signed to Prince who was signed to WB that's who got all the money. Morris knows that exactly why Prince told him change the name Morris was pig headed and just didn't get it .... Prince changed his and used pen names for that reason.
