- I have a few projects coming up that would benefit from having a router table. But, like most of us, I'm a bit short on shop space, so I made a router table in my table saw extension wing.

I like the speed video. No blabbering just teaching. Thanks
That was great! I would love to hear you talk through a couple of the points, mainly the way you leveled the router mounting plate, and the leveling of the router table to the table saw top. Also, you should introduce yourself, you seem very talented. Loved the soundtrack.
Thank you for posting this video. I have been looking at different postings on this topic, by some well respected You Tuber’s. I just used this cutout technique on the side table of my saw and it was fast and easy.
Thank you very much.
I'm with Matthew S. I normally cant get through a whole time lapsed video but this one was edited well. I think the excellent music choices helped too.
HUGE help! I have the same saw and want a router table in the wing. Thanks for posting!
Glad I could help!
Thank you for this video. I’ve been trying to decide what to do for my router table and this is perfect.
Gotta say that time lapse videos usually lose me, but this was cool. I subbed.
Two things! #1 who are the 31 people that gave this a thumbs down and what is there not to like about it? #2 Fantastic job I'm about to do the same thing to mine!
Thanks! I appreciate it.
maybe got the thumbs down for crosscutting the long lengths against the fence? even with a sled i feel this is bad practice, but no thumbs down from me,....just a guess
or maybe cuz he didn't miter the edge trim? peeps are crazy here sometimes.
well here i go... building one for myself ... thanks for video... nice job
Very well done! I have to replace the side board on my table saw system. I currently have a router in it but the table section is 28 years old and showing the effects of time. It's starting to warp and delaminate. This looks like a good way to go. Great music selection too!
I like this idea! What a space saver.
Love the soundtrack. Great music choices - the video was also super helpful.
I'm enjoying your work. The videos are good but I'd like it if you could pause and explain some details. It's refreshing to find someone doing "regular" projects with practical applications that aren't sponsored by Rockler.
Question: Do you think it's sufficient to attach to the fence rails or should you try to anchor to the table saw as well? I'm thinking long term rigidity.
I'd like to be neighbors ;-)
Adding this to my delta this weekend!
Very nice. You're making me want to build one for myself.
Good job broski . Here’s a lil tip anytime u have trouble leveling something flush with a surface like that router top put some hot glue in the rabbeted / lip area , the. Place the top on it and clamp a level to the top and bottom 💯
nicely done, both the project and the video
Nice. Way more affordable than the saw stop extension.
Good Job !
Love this Man!! got to investigate how I am going to mount it the my saw different brand older Ridgid 3650T
Nice job. No b/s and great music.
1:30 _"Repeat - This is_ *_not_* _a drill."_
*It is a sander!!*
:
Nice, neat and inexpensive, good job.
Fantastic build.
nice job now i can tackle the project
Can’t wait to build mine
Good work, and music as well.
Can’t wait to build this. Great job
Was all the hardware you used included with the router insert plate? I plan on doing the same think to me saw. This was a huge help
Sweet! Nice simple design, solid execution, thanks for the inspiration!
That’s a nice build Dude… Nice quality
Thank you for your effort in making this video. It is a great help. Most appreciated.
Dude...Great video. Just bought the same saw. This is VERY helpful. Thank you.
At 8:40, you use a hex wrench to raise and lower the router bit. How does that work?! I don't see any lift function in the description of the Russeau 3509 router plate!
The router table insert you have there,IS the one you list ? Where did the height adjustment come from? *** never mind, I see how ya did it now ***.. Thanks!
I really like what you did. Great video and great work.
Your video is awesome, answered 2 questions at once, great music also, and no bs. I couldn’t hit the subscribe button fast enough! Keep doing your thing, I look forward to checking out your channel.
Thanks!
wow!! very nicely done!
I wish you would have covered how you set up the fence.
you never gave us a full overview shot in the video, we got a teaser shot at the end, that too-quickly faded out
Good job. Enjoyed the video.
Heyyyy I like that glue dispenser at 1:11 !
Nice job my friend 👏👍
Great video, just what I was looking for, thanks
Great video, I will be using a lot of this to help build my table.
Just stumbled onto your video. Good job! Enjoyed the music and the video. The subject was right on point for me. You have a new subscriber!
Well done!
Very nice.
Very good, really like the extension part...
Was that a lift in the router faceplate or is that a function of your router? Looks like a very useful modification. Well Done!
I have the same question!
Nice job and loved the music.
Thanks!
My sentiments exactly.
Good job
Very nice job
Good Job! Liked the video.
Excellent...
Really well done!
Really nice, dude.
Thanks
Thanks for the video, and it looks good, but I can tell you that you're going to have a serious sag in that table at some point in the next few years. With additional supports, you might be able to slow the process, but it will be difficult to completely prevent sagging given the materials used.
what other materials would you use? I'm about to build something similar
Danny Pops You can still use mdf or hardwood ply, but I would double them up AND add structural support like simple cross beams, or torsion box. For reference, I had a Rockler hdf table top and reinforced it with 3/4 birch ply and it still sagged after a couple of years due to the weight of my heavy lift + router. Also, Lee Valley/Veritas added a crown to their CAST IRON table tops to combat sag, so if metal can sag, you can imagine what would happen to unsupported sheet(s) of mdf over time. (Edit) I should qualify that ymmv depending on your setup. If you don’t have a lift and your router is very light then you might be ok. But if you’re planning to splurge with that Jessem Mast-r-lift and a 7518 Porter Cable, then you should plan ahead.
Danny Pops I’ve also read/heard of people experimenting with Formica solid sheets and Corian, but I think the the jury is still out. And they would also need a support structure.
This is the first video I've seen that used double sheets for the extension. I can't tell if he used particle board or MDF. When sawing it looked like particle board from the lack of find dust that is created with MDF. Either way this one might be flatter than mine which is made from two 3/4 birch plywood with formica top. I don't know if the birch plywood will sag more or less than the particle board, but think I will add some supports to mine anyway. The extension that I replaced was one sheet of 3/4 particle board with formica top (a used counter top) with 1x2 oak supports laid flatunderneath. It did not sag after 5 years, but the supports were a problem mounting the dust collection box around the router and lift. I added pieces of oak that did nothing but plug the air holes under the box. If I put the oak supports in properly, the dust collection box will hang from them without adding extra pieces. Cheek1m0nkey didn't say how he knows this build will sag, but why not add supports? Why take a chance?
I guess we do know how Cheek1m0nkey knows it will sag. I didn't read his complete second reply. I'm adding supports to mine.
Did you use 3/4” or 1/2” MDF? I doubled two 3/4” boards together, but the 1 1/2” partially or completely covers the holes in the rails making it impossible to adjust the height when it comes time to attach the extension since you’d just be screwing into the table itself instead of using a bolt and nut through the frame. I must be missing a minor detail.
Very nice !
I have a project like this to do. Thanks for the video !
Thumbs up. Subbed.
Freaky Fast! Noce job!
I’m guessing if you ever need the wing to cut long boards on the table saw, you just remove the router bit? Have you noticed any droop in the wing at all? Nice job and video, by the way.
I have the same saw, the wings are made of seriously stout angle iron. You're not going to get any droop from a bit of MDF and a small trim router hung out there.
This may be a dumb question, but did you buy all of the hardware, such as the router plate and sides, because I would like their information as to who you bout it from?
Nice. Is it better than the stamped wings, even if I don’t need the router feature?
Good job my friend! I loved it.
I have 3/4 inch melamine boards for both of my current extension wings. Do you feel that would be thick enough to support this method? Thx! Great video.
Hi what kind of molding cutter you have used with the machine to make the edges .thanks
Nice how about dust collection?
i haven't added any yet. I normally just shop vac up afterwards, but I'm planning to put a box under it and hook it into my DC system soon. I'll definitely make an update video once I do.
Great work! How is the router table holding up so far?
Awesome brother.....
Great Video! Thanks Bro
Sir: it looks like this Bosch router can be adjusted vertically with a wrench? did i see that right? So the router can just stay in the table and you can do your bit replacements and height adjustment, all at the table? thank you for the great video!
Very nice!
Have you noticed any bowing of the Rousseau router plate from the weight of the router?
Subscribed. Badass video boss. Keep them coming!
Love the flip flops! :-) Is that a adjustable height plate and who makes it?
End product look great , my recommend slowing the video down and curing the music,
And give commentary on what you are doing.
Nice!
Smart.
THat was bad ass.
Not bad!
Hi, so now it's been a couple of years since your router table install. Do you feel that the weight of the mdf plus the hanging router has created any sag on the fence guide rails of the table saw?
Watched a couple of vids where they put some 2x legs to make sure that didn't happen.
@@mr.peabody6670 I was thinking put some legs that angle down into the base, that way I don't have to worry about them when I roll it.
It looks good but I wasn't sure because you didn't display the end product at the end of the video. By the way, how will the router be raised and lowered?
The very end shows him using a key to adjust the router height from above
I saw his raise and lower the router from the top, but it didn't look like he used a router lift.
What is the tool you use @8:41 to adjust the height of the router bit when it is in your table?
Nice extension design and execution! Did you have to reset your saw fence with the Delta gauges since you unbolted the rail in a few places? I have the same 36-725 and am loving what it can do.
Please, I had to turn the music off. How about some comments as to how you made this and the product used.
Cool! - THANKS, but I am really confused about one part (watched it a dozen times) -- You located the insert plate and traced a line all around it (check); then you put guide boards all around the plate (check); then, around 2:20 you lift the plate off and the lines are suddenly inside the guides by about 1/2 inch all the way around! Huh?! How did that happen - what did I miss?
Those aren't the same lines from before. I drew new ones inside of the guides to see where the lip would be once cut out.
@@DabneyWoodworks Thanks - I figured that had to be it. Thanks very much for the video - I made my own setup in accordance with yours.
Do you need to buy the extension rails to extend the fence to the router table? I want to do something similar with my old craftsman table saw.
This saw comes with those rails. So, you'd have to buy them for your saw if you don't already have them
What is the brand of double sided tape you used .. I can only find the thick carpet tape, can NOT find double sided suitable for woodworking. Thanks ahead of time for a reply.
Use tape for vinyl flooring
It's actually rug tape I had laying around. Don't know the exact brand.
What router lift is that?
It's the fixed base that comes with the router. Not the easiest to adjust, but it works for now. I'll have to change it out at some point when I add dust collection.
Oops. Not lift. What plate is that.
@@ToddSmith-zu9fm Rousseau 3509. The link is in the description.
what kind of inset was that and does it come with the lift or you needed to buy something else for that
Hi great video! Is that the delta 36-725 ? I have the same saw and want to make a router wing to save room . Had it held up pretty good ? Also I notice the back of your Saw is cover up , ( dust collector) , can you give me any helpful tips , I'd appreciate
It would have been much more effective if you ditched the funky dance party music and just talked to your audience so they could get to know you and why you do the things you do they way you do them. Any project should include a rundown of the materials and tools you'll need.
Nah
It would be great if you explained step by step for the ones who aren’t professionals. Smh!
I turned the music off, it was annoying. Also you are not in a race, slow down!
Кто пришлёт мне такое?
Leave it to a black man to be able to saw to the beat ! 😂
Too much video on just you measuring...over and over.
measure lots, cut once!
Nicely done (Mr?) Dabney. About to do this for my 36-725 also. Curious: how thick were the two layers of MDF? I have 3/4” on hand, but wonder if it wouldn’t be too thick when laminated to 1-1/2” to clear the bolts as they come thru the support arm holes?
Nicely done!
