  • Hello friends!
Welcome (finally) to a much-requested tutorial on how I multiplace in diamond painting (which is, I think, just a little different than most other diamond painters). Even if you’re a perfectionist like I am, try putting in the time and practice. It’s totally possible to multiplace efficiently AND accurately!

One thing that I have learned about multi placing is if you set down your drills horizontally, do that way all the way thru. If you set down vertically, do vertically all the way thru. Don't do both horizontal and vertical on the same painting. It messes with row placement and spacing, making your finished painting look jagged.

Awesome advice on the horizontal placement technique vs vertical! I had been placing vertically for some reason, just what I started with I guess, and I immediately found that after following your tips that my drills are much straighter now. I have an empty single placer on the other side of my pen, just for fixing issues as I go, and I have to use it way less now.
I also have tried quake putty (as well as just about every wax/putty on the market) and it was my favorite, but I have since switched to micro glue dots all shoved into a metal multiplacer. I think I use about 10-15 of the glue dots in my 9 placer. This saves me tons of time because I rarely switch them out.
    Thanks for the helpful video!

Vertically always seemed to lose part of a row near the end and I had to go back and fix the rows so that they would line up, I’d that makes sense. I multi place like you but backwards as a lefty! I started doing it this way because I had a weird tray where the ridges were too far apart to pick the drills up straight so I started going at an angle to make them line up against one of the ridges. I’ve been trying to let go of getting them perfectly lined up and just enjoy the process.

Definitely would like to see more on multiplacing. I am going to look at your other ones too. I see you have one out for squares so I’m going to watch that one. I’ve been diamond painting since 2013 and always just single placed everything. However, I have a huge stash of diamond paintings (especially from DAC) and really want to get through them faster. Your drill placement is just so perfect. I’m just now trying to get the hang of multiplacing and am starting with a two placer. I’ve tried a four placer too and I think my biggest problem is getting them straight on the multiplacer in the first place. I have the drills all nice and straight in the tray but when I go to pick them up, they don’t stay straight on the multiplacer so then they don’t lay down nice and straight. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

I sometimes pick up drills at an angle when I multiplace but not on purpose! I’ll have to give it a try and see if it makes placing horizontally easier for me. It is so interesting how many ways we all approach doing the same thing! I’m definitely team “adjust with your single placer” - I hung onto a pen that I don’t really like to use as my straightener, since I don’t care if the tip ends up getting warped from all of my poking and prodding.
I would enjoy a video about multiplacing squares; in some ways I think it’s easier than rounds but at the same time it can be tricky.

I tend to be a vertical multiplacer. For some reason it’s easier for me to see where the drills are lining up. However...girlllll...you showed me that I’ve been multiplacing wrong all these months!! I always squeeze my drills together when picking them up! No wonder mine never look as neat as yours! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

    Hello
Does anyone know why the diamonds aren't uniformed?

  • @ellesaaltjejenneke5400

Interesting! I multiplace vertically, but I hold my tray vertically too. I pick them up at an angle too, but from right to left. And I place them right to left too, so no issues with sticky hands. The drills stick out a bit on the left side of the multiplacer and I let the left side touch first. I can’t see what I’m doing horizontally, it’s a really awkward hand movement for me.
Unfortunately I’ve only had a few canvases with good drills so far, so there is always a problem with lining them up. Right now some of the drills are too small, so they don’t end up in their squares 🙄🤨
Have you tried the curved multiplayers? There a bit wider, but I like them on rounds so far. You can’t pick up drills from an angle though, so I’m a bit hesitant with squares.

    • @DiamondsandWashi
      @DiamondsandWashi  Před 3 lety

Isn’t it fascinating how we all seem to have different approaches to things like multiplacing? I keep trying to get the hang of placing vertically, but I’m so clumsy at it! I’ll have to practice and kind of try it how you’re describing it.
I’m sorry you’ve had trouble with drill quality! That really does make a difference and can be super frustrating with squares 😕
I have tried the curved multiplacers (from LexyLily Crafts) and I really want them to work for me, especially since I rock from one side to the other. But they’re difficult to use when you pick up at a bit of an angle like I do. I should try them again, though!

So you don’t feel the metal tips would work better so that the plastic tops don’t wear down? I’m starting to multiplace and working with the Staroar plastic tips like you suggested. However, I am finding that they do eventually wear down and get the grooves. So I was just wondering g if going with the metal placers. If so, do you know of any other metal multiplacers thst and the thin ones other than the expensive Everlasting tips?

It takes some practice, but try tilting your tray at a slight angle, and shake gently. Sometimes lightly tapping on the side is helpful, too. Also, some trays are better at helping line up your drills nicely - my current favorites are from Munimade on Etsy, but the larger white Staroar trays from Amazon are good, inexpensive options, too!
