The rubbing over the stencil is like brass rubbing. I used to do it with my mother in churches, large sheets of paper and wax crayons over brass images, usually embedded in the stone floor. Really great results. Thanks for this informative video I’m a year late to the party though 😂
This has been the MOST thorough, amazing review that I have seen!!!! thank You for all this legwork!!! Tim Holtz needs to refer folks to your video for questions!!!!
Thank you so much! I’m really glad it was helpful 💕
The detail on this video is amazing!!! Wow! I am so glad I looked deeper in your video inventory. Up until now, I had only watched your BytheWell unboxings. Now, I can take Lindsey Craft School! Thank you for all your videos and your willingness to share your knowledge!!!
I’m so glad it was helpful! Since I’ve been in school full time for the last year I haven’t had as much time to film anything other than unboxings but I’ll hopefully be back to more instructional videos after I graduate in December 😉
I bought these when they first came out and they have been waiting patiently for me to sit down and play! This may be the most informative video I have watched regarding these! Thank you for your time and dedication to sharing your information and experience!
I’m so glad it was helpful! Have fun 💕
Love this Lindsey! Thanks for trying them out for us! 😉♥️
Great video, I am currently waiting for all three sets to arrive and i ordered the floral outline stamp, can't wait, thanks for your tips
Excellent video, Lindsey - THANK YOU!
This video is awesome!! Thank you for doing all the ground work. You are truly a blessing.
Thank you for a very informative video using the Distress Watercolor Pencils and their comparison to other mediums. I love using stencils and you have shown some great techniques. I have all three sets of the Pencils and just love them.
Thank you Lindsey!!!! Excellent video!!!! Great information!!!
This is the best video on the distress watercolor pencils that I have seen. Thanks so much!
Lindsey, this was absolutely wonderful! I found sets two and three at one place, so ordered those and put my name on a couple of lists for when set one is restocked. Thank you so much! This has helped so much!! And that watercolor stamping… can’t wait to try it again with these, and the stenciling, my goodness, so great!
Very thorough description of how these work! Great job! I have them and love them.
Enjoyed your demos! Love these pencils!
This video inspired me to order these! Am so stoked to try them!!! Thank you Lindsey!
Love the stamping with the watercolors. I have them and this is a perfect video on how to use them. thanks.
Thanks for this video Lindsey. Really helpful x
Thank you for showing the comparisons of these with other pencils/crayons. I have many of the others and had thought I don't need these new pencils. Okay, I don't NEED them but I sure would love to have them! So I have something to look forward to, getting all of these new distress pencil sets. Thank you again!
Wow, such wonderful info!
I ordered all 6 sets last week. Glad I got mine early. Loved your video on this subject.❤❤
Thank you for putting this together - you have shown me new ways to use the pencils that I would have never thought of!!
I’m so glad this was helpful!
This is the best video I have seen so far! I'm sure I will refer back to your video
Good Job!
Thank you so very much! I’m glad it was helpful.

Thank you. I love this informative video ❤. I love the stamps and am ordering the pencils now 😊
Thank u so much! Very informative and they are going to be a lot of fun 🌷🌷🌷
Found your channel and just subscribed. Thanks for showing SO many techniques! Loved all your demonstrations! MUCH appreciated!
Thank you for sharing this great information.
I really appreciate how thorough this video is for using these pencils. I managed to find all three sets and am (not so patiently) waiting for them to arrive 😆 Thank you so much!😊
Yay! Have fun!
We’ll done, Lindsey! As soon as I saw Tim Holtz’ video I knew I wanted to try the pencils but didn’t know how they would work specifically on Bible journaling. You answered my questions and then some. Can’t wait to receive my pencils and try them out! ❤
I’m so glad this helped!
Excellent video!!!
Fantastic demo Lindsey! You answered so many questions I had about them. I have been planning to purchase the InkTense pencils but am so glad I waited because, now I would rather have the Distress Watercolor Pencils. Thank you for sharing this with us.
I’m so glad this was helpful!
🎉🎉🎉 yay I’ve been waiting for this since his live 😂❤
Love your video and how you explained the difference between all the pencils and excited about seeing how you color in your Bible because I have a coloring Bible and I haven’t been sure what products to use in it.
I'm glad this was helpful! I've used them a few times in my Bible and they work wonderfully in there. Always test in the back pages since everyone's Bible has different paper.
The best Video I have seen on this. Thank you so much for all the great ideals , I love my . I like to use them in bringing color to my die cut flowers That have lots of layers .
Thank you, I’m glad it was helpful!
Just ordered set one from btw4g. Thanks for giving me so many ideas for using them!
I really like watercolors. This is something I put on my Wish List because I like the vintage effect of these pencils.
PS when I use watercolors, I always use watercolor paper.
I got the three sets and I love them 🎉
Your video is FABULOUS! I just bought the first 2 packs on vacation and was told to check out some videos. One thing...when you add white to color it is a tint.
YAY finally!!!
I have the distress watercolor pencils, and am so glad!
But for the ones who have neocolor and want to sharpen them, there are sharpeners
for the larger pencils that will accomodate the larger size. Just hope that helps!
I love that someone uses a KJV besides me. I love your whole explanation here.
Thanks! I actually use a variety of translations but my go to is the NASB.
Hi Lindsey, I absolutely love your presentation - sooo thorough and your tips are outstanding. So glad I found you. Just wondering where you got the insert sheets for your swatches. I love how it shows the name of the color and the swatch in such a clean cut manner. Thank you so much for all of this wonderful information. Phyliss
For my swatches I use 2" coin sheets and I cut up squares of watercolor paper to create my swatches. I then label them with a label maker.
New to your channel! Love these pencils. I just accidentally found set one yesterday. I’ve now ordered the other 2 because omg! They are so great. I have found that they give you a better result if your using a shiny surface like the Tim holtz photo you used, if you first put down some of the clear gesso! It’s for sure not a have to, but it really does give you a better result.
Awesome! Thanks for the gesso tip!
GREAT VID ❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it
Great techniques thanks. Found your video after Tim's second release.
Hello! I’m glad you found this helpful. I’ve got my new release ordered and can’t wait for some play time!
@@LindseyDecor Me too. I really need to use them more🙂
Just a thought about keeping the stamped image crisp… after stamping with versa fine ink, heat emboss clear over it before coloring. I don’t have these yet but I think that would work. Thank you for such an informative video! I’m definitely going to be adding these to my stash!
Oh yes, very true! I had thought to mention that but it didn’t make it onto my notes 😆
You created a great resource with this video.
I don't know if you care, probably not, but I wanted to point out that the way you use "pigment" when talking about all of these products isn't completely right. We all know what you're talking about, so it really is not an issue at all. But I thought you might want to know that there is a difference between pigment and dye. What makes the Inktense pencils so special is that they contain a dye. That's why they become pretty much permanent - they dye the paper, fabric etc.
All the other products do contain pigment, I'd assume. But none of them are pure pigment. They all contain binders. Pigment alone wouldn't stay in a pencil. :)
Just thought you or someone else reading this might like to know. I think it's a neat thing to know about the materials we work with.
I’m glad you found this helpful and thank you for the info. According to the Derwent website, Inktense are a pigment based product. I have found that pigment based products tend to not bleed through Bible paper while dye based products do.
To protect watercolor from reactivating you can use a wax sealing medium to coat the paper. I've seen a lot of good examples for Dorland's wax medium by Jacquard.
Hi Lindsey! This is a GREAT video! Very informative! Thx!!!! I have a question; just not about pencils…… where did you get the swatch cards (did you make them?), and where did you get the binder pages to put them in???? ❤
I made the swatches using watercolor paper and a label maker. The pockets are coin collecting pockets that are 2”x2”,
@@LindseyDecor thanks so much!!! Coin pockets! Huh! I would never have thought of them. I looked for small pockets, but they weren’t small enough. I noticed that you have more than one brand. Do you have a preference?
Still awaiting my order. New crayons and the new pencils.
Excelent Demo. Thank you. Where did you get your Bible? I would like to get one like it.
This is the one I’m using in this video to test products amzn.to/3SqDcs8
Hello. I have a Question that does not relate to the pencils. On your stamping platform you have two round magnets in some kind of holder for the magnet’s. What are they called and where did you get them. Thank you in advance.
Derwent watercolor pencils have permanence when dry. And they used to have a woodless, I have some.
You may be experiencing some sense of permanence due to the substrate you are working in but the Derwent website explains that their watercolor pencils are water soluble and not permanent.
Do you find that InkTense bleeds through in your Bibles? I love InkTense and have both the pencils and sticks.
I haven’t had any issues with Inktense bleeding in the Bible’s that I’ve tried them in.
I may have just ran out to hobby lobby and bought a set 🙈 😊
I have a question....when applying these pencils to color on stamps, does this work with clear stamps as well?
Yup! More solid stamps work better.
Do you have any “Tip Tuesday” on gel press sheets?
Where did you get the paint pallet for the shavings ?
There’s a link for it in the description box below the video 😉
Tim said in his video that the colors are a mix of distress ink colors and oxide colors, some look more like one or the other when you add water
Thanks! I must've missed him saying that.
Can you show how you use these while Bible journaling? Do you prep your Bible pages because they are so thin?
I haven’t used them in an entry on camera yet but prepping the page depends on a few things. Always test all products in the back of your Bible (just because they don’t bleed in mine doesn’t mean they won’t bleed in yours). Prepping the page gives different results so it would depend on what your preferences are. I do show, in detail, how these perform on Bible paper in this video (starting at 19:59).
Any idea to clean my stamps to remove this pigment? I have ruined my stamps which drives me a little nuts. Thanks so much!
I use a baby wipe or if they need a deeper clean then I use soap and warm water. They may stain your stamps but I haven’t had any issues with damage to my stamps.
@@LindseyDecor thanks for replying. I tried and the reds/pinks really stained the stamps badly. Oh well. Lesson learned. Thank you!
What stamping apparatus did you use?
I use the one from Tim Holtz but it’s been discontinued. You may be able to find it online from another country. Or I recommend the one from Stampin’ Up.
Can you use these on wood?
Maybe the PN micron (plastic nib) would be more appropriate for that. Not if it clogs up more or less bit I’ve ruined microns with watercolor before… 😅
Yes, I've since discovered the PN Micron after this video and it's quickly become my preferred Micron pen.
Waar kan ik die kleurtjes vinden aub
They are linked in the description box.
Derwent watercolor pencils have permanence when dry
The Derwent Inktense Pencils are permanent because they are actually India Ink and not watercolors but the Derwent Watercolor Pencils are not permanent.
Bought the three. Not a fan. Craved plain old watercolor paint and brush. Not a big stamper and adult colorer-might be the problem.
Great video, just very pricy
