That's my winter coat! I have a black one from about 4 years ago. I love my McMurdo! It is warm, comfy, easy to whipe clean, and it has just the right amount of pockets! It is a big jacket. If you wear a really bulky sweater it may make the jacket fit tightly. If you need a really warm coat without super flexible sleeves like that on a ski jacket this is for you! Keep in mind that this is not a daily winter cost but a coat for the cold snaps. I generally wear this coat at 30 degrees or less as it can get warm if it's not cold enough outside. The nylon is super easy to clean. Do keep in mind that this is a bulky kind of old school jacket. It's my favorite coat ever! Keep warm! Much love and favor!

Layering works great in some situations but for just puttering around in the Midwest, it's often super cold outside and then folks keep the inside spaces overheated, so I like having a heavy parka and then just a shirt underneath. I was able to get one in orange (not a favorite color) for $100. New.

Nicely laid out.... but for that degree of freezing cold weather / wind etc. it doesn't come down long enough for my preference.

Here in North Texas we are looking a lows around 12 for the next couple of days. Nothing super serious like what you are wearing to stay warm.

A down puffy sweater would be perfect for that weather. Stay warm Will! Cheers, Andrew

That looks like a nice toasty coat...but I don't understand short parkas. I'm something of a parka collector and my best parkas are knee length. Thighs can get really cold. I scour the thrift and surplus stores for military parkas and Snow Goose or Woods parkas which are knee length. Nothing at all against the piece you are showing but, as a Canadian, if my butt is visible when I bend over, it's a coat not a parka :).

Great topic for a review, but it’s not a jacket that makes a lot of sense to me. I avoid down jackets with a waterproof membrane as I use them in very cold weather when precipitation isn’t an issue and the membrane will only increase the chance of condensation buildup on the inside of the membrane. Living in Norway I’ve accumulated a rather large selection of insulated jackets, though most of them are intended for outdoor / backpacking in cold weather and lean towards low weight, high loft (and high price 😬). For casual wear I agree that high loft down isn’t of much value since you want a heavier and more rugged outer fabric that to a large degree would serve to compress such high loft down anyways. A Fjällräven Greenland no.5 down jacket does most of the heavy lifting down to the mid 20s. In colder temps I use my Mountain Equipment Trango jacket (fairly affordable, 40D outer, 750 down, sewn through baffles) and if it gets absolutely silly cold I grab the Mountain Equipment K7 jacket from my outdoor/expedition wardrobe (rather expensive, but an absolute fortress against the cold). Also have a selection of synthetics that works well in a wide range of weather and layers well with other insulating layers and rain shells.

When did they start giving outside temps in wrong numbers?
don't want to know the windchill.

Why make a vid on a jacket no longer being sold? 👎🏻
