I have the 2021 version, paid 60% less than retail as they go on sale right after the winter season and its been an amazing jacket! originally got medium but was too large so sent back and got small which fits better. These jackets are made bigger so you can layer underneath.

What do you think is the temperature rating for the Parka. I am planning to take it to Patagonia in early February which is the summer time south of the Equator. We are also taking a cruise ship that takes us to fjords and glaciers. I do layer but I wonder if it is going to be too warm. I have the Parka III model.
Not that warm unfortunately. I would say it's good to maybe 0degrees Celcius. You would definitely need to have a couple layers under neath if its below 0degrees
Duck down (waterfowl) is considered inferior to goose down. The slightly higher fill power on the duck down version may mean they have similar warmth in the jacket, but anything under 650 fill power is fairly low quality, and 550 fill power goose down is honestly bottom of the barrel. At this price point, there are a TON of options: $400-500 puts you squarely in the middle of the Arcteryx range, or if you can move up to the $700-800 range, you can get a top-of-the-line Triple FAT Goose parka and be ready for Antarctic conditions. On the other end, you can buy a 650-fill power, 90/10 duck down sweater jacket from Costco for $35 and use it as a mid-layer under a shell that you already own.

Thanks! Yeah they fit a bit on the larger size. But it also depends on how tall you are as well. I'm 5'8" and the Medium is plenty large enough for me to wear another layer underneath.

awesome! yeah the jacket should fit u well. i found that at times it wasnt warm enough, so i always had to wear a smaller lighter down jacket in combination with it
@@johnburke8375 fits well in the arms and waist as in length but is slightly tight in the abdomen. It’s not horrible but I definitely wouldn’t be able to use a hoody underneath it. Or otherwise it would be too tight
Right now in Vancouver its fluctuation between 2degrees to 6degrees. Wearing just a t shirt under neath is fine. If it gets colder though, I'll probably wear a sweater or light jacket in addition to this. But I usually run cold so I like to layer up!

Hmmm that's tough! I'm 5'8 and about 86kg and I'm a medium and there is still room for me to layer up inside. Maybe put on 1-2 jackets under neath. So you might be a small potentially!

@@BHALAMAN dident like the fit so I did ship it back, and went to a store and bought a fjellraven nuuk parka. It was way better fit more slim and holds down to - 40▪︎c for almost same price plus the nuuk parka have like 18 pockets

@@connorgage5744 yeah it sucks they don’t have it on the new version. Was gonna pull the trigger but without the gaiter it’s not enough coverage on my face, opted for the more expensive Patagonia frozen range jacket which covers your entire neck and face when zipped up, didn’t want to wear an extra gaiter and mask so the Patagonia frozen range was better for me. Wish north face would’ve kept the gaiter.
If you're 5'10 or more, skip the McMurdo and go with something else, because the hood on this coat is really short. The body is on the short side, too, at least when you compare it to similar products from other brands.

Unless you want a coat that goes right to your shirt line then a L is the better option but if you lift your arms up your belly might get exposed slightly.

His is a 202 0 version. You probably got the newer one which appears not to have that. I didnt know the 2020 version did but now I'm sad the 2021 does not cuz that sounds like a great feature.
@@aristotelessanchez7646 Presuming you're both 5'11, I would advise you to go with something other than the McMurdo if you want a parka. The center back length of the McM isn't even 32 inches, which is short in comparison to similar parkas from other brands. Also, the hood on the McM is way too small, at least in my opinion. On top of all that, there isn't a drawcord at the waist or hem, so the body of the coat isn't adjustable at all.
NF's winter coats have always been pretty mediocre, but they keep making them worse with every new set of revisions. The McMurdo, Gotham and Carto all used to be a lot better.
@@DesmondCheng OK is about right. They keep changing their winter coat designs for the worse. My understanding is that the McM actually used to have two drawcords. I do appreciate the fact that the hem is straight across, instead of having that pointless, stupid-looking flap that I hate in the back, as so many parkas do.
