  • This is quite some time later (maybe a year) and I can confirm I'm still riding the replacement frame that I was send and I love the tweaks they made to it. Such an amazing bike VERY HAPPY :)

    I don’t think the Spectral is really up for the kind of riding you do. At least not the prior gen. Yeah it can handle an occasional jump or park day but not on a consistent basis. I’m sure you like the geometry but you’d probably be better off with a slightly more “enduro” longer travel bike like the Torque, YT Capra etc

      it's a really interesting point and yes I'd love any of the bikes you mention. I just had to start at the low end as that'd all I can afford. And to be fair the problem in some ways is that the Spectral is
      a) sold as an enduro bike to have fun on (especially the 27.5)
      b) shows everyone doing this kind of riding (great marketing)
      c) the way the bike feels led me to this type of riding.
      The newest version that I have now seems much burlier and set up for this fun kind of riding but bear in mind I did the same stuff on my crappy old Trek hard tail from a lot of years before and it puts up with it without an issue (from the frame). Having said all that, 3 frames in 3 years does point the finger to a common denominator.
      My next bike will be a Transition for sure. I like the idea that they have so much faith in their frames that they warranty them for life. however, the price point is very different and so the Spectral is insane value at the price I paid, most people don't crack them like me but I also see lots do :)
      Canyon have been pretty good throughout, not perfect but hey who is :)

      @@GeezeILoveMTB good points. canyon does definitely need to beef up their frames. you’re not the only one who has cracked multiple spectrals. there’s weak spots in the design like the shock bracket. trek was/is good w aluminum (especially older bikes) so not surprised your hard tail held up. i have an old banshee paradox hardtail that takes everything. cant imagine cracking that thing and im over 200 lbs. good luck w the transition. like their bikes but i think the whole long low and slack thing is going too far. reach is a hugely important part of bike fit and people are totally disregarding it bc of a bunch of marketing hype…all stretched out. i ride dirt bikes too and used to being upright. a few years it’ll switch to something else. in the meantime i liked the geo of the last gen spectral bc the geo fit much better

      @@GeezeILoveMTB one other thing, the Capra comes in a core 2 now which is not too much more than a spectral and will be less than a similarly specced transition. the geo on that is far better in terms of stack and reach (for now) so may be worth checking out. i’m picking up the mx core 2 version. we’ll see

    Canyon just warrantied my cracked 2022 Spectral AL 6 which was probably a defect and fracture at the upper shock mount area (almost exactly the same fracture as this: czcams.com/users/shortsq_L09ZE0K58). Bottom line: Canyon approved my warranty claim in 24 hrs, processing refund currently for ~50% of the entire bike cost plus tax refunded in 4-6 weeks. And offered 15% discount code which I used to purchase carbon Spectral 29 off sale price. Case was completed in 6 total days. Can't complain honestly. They gave option for a replacement aluminum Spectral frame but I opted for refund to buy a carbon frame/bike. I opened a case for a damaged wheel for Specialized and they never answered the phone for multiple calls in 2 weeks and finally responded via email to the case after 30 days. Canyon service is way better in comparison. Note: you don't need to ship back old bike, you need to saw out the BB and provide photo. I rode the AL 6 for 2850 miles in 1.5 years. Some bike parks and local tech trails. Not a big jumper but lots of brutal tech. USA customer.

    So how did you broke the frame? what is your weight? And what kind of things you do with the bike?

    • @GeezeILoveMTB
      @GeezeILoveMTB  Před rokem +2

      the fact it's been replaced 3 times by Canyon should say that it broke due to manufacturing defects, often with aluminium it seems to be the welds at very high temperatures that is an issue along with something like heat treating it or something. My weight is about 86KG and as for what I do on the bike, well you can see that on the channel :) but nothing crazy, I'm far from a big jump rider no pro lines but also not such a bad rider that I land jumps heavy. Maybe you are asking where it broke? if so I think the first time was the head tube weld, the second time was the shock mount weld and the third time was the seat stays weld along with some delamination on the carbon frame.

      I have to say that I'm gutted that they've broken so often for me for sure. They always broke at the start of the spring/summer too. The Warranty process has been okay generally but of course takes too long. This claim was initially rejected as well and so took more effort and heartache than previous ones but we got there in the end. There are lots of Spectral owners with no issues and some with some issues. Canyon suggested the new ones are more burley but time tell... Good luck with yours

      I would have agreed until I got this last version of the Spectral and it’s been bullet proof. It’s done some massive stuff the big starting jumps on the proline at Wind Hill and the big drop on Oakley line at Dyfi, so this newer one is holding up really well.
