Why would you use a carbide blade for cutting metal? They make an attachment for removing grout with a diamond edge. And you run it on high. Works much better. Also you need to vacuum it before grouting and vacuum as you cut the grout out so you don't fill the house with dust.
This video was incredibly useful. Yes i am lucky enough to have a multi tool but never thought to use it for removing the old grout. I had to buy a float which was only a couple of pounds and the grout of course. I vacuumed out the joints once finished before doing the grout. I am a lady of mature years who has never done this before. I literally did my repairs in an hour and am very proud of my accomplishment. It took another hour to clean up the excess grout though, I would caution leaving it for 20 minutes!!!
Exactly...good girl..I replied to this vidio. U don't sweep debri into the lines... nor add painters tape to put don't so you can only fix that whats needs y To be fixed. Unless ur an absolute moron🤣🤣
The half circle attachment is faster and better than this cutting attachment you are using, for this particular job. Also, need to vacuum before re-grouting and use diagonal passes with the grout paste in order to get it in properly.
also, going over it with the grout float at least 3 times makes sure the grout is completely compressed and all the tiny little air bubbles within and under the new grout are removed. Makes for much stronger and longer lasting grout! :)
Angle grinder with diamond blade is 100x faster than multitool with custom high adjustment on small roller tires+ vacuum. I have done 5 big sized bathroom floor and walls full regrout. Trust me I know what to use on the cheap. Use metal drillbit on the corners. I can out perform anyone trying to do this on the cheap LOL.
Many people probably aren’t gonna have an angle grinder, and it’s probably gonna be less useful to someone just doing home diy projects. A multi tool also is much easier to keep in the channels.
How can I clean my grout? I have white grout and grey tile. I have tried the expensive Aqua Mix brand heavy duty grout cleaner and it didnt work. I also tried baking soda and Four Moms cleaning vinegar, which seemed to work better. Any advice is appreciated very much
wait, so new grout takes 20min to set? i wouldn't trust myself, i'd have to get the old grout out even before mixing the new stuff up. good video though, giving me the courage to get up and do it.
Question: the tile that's been in the house for the last 50 the grout doesn't crack or chip off ever.. HOWEVER someone install some tile in my house last year and it's cracking already. The floor got wet and it really cracking down. Why is 50 years old grout not cracking at all and 1 year old grout cracking fast?
It is actually, easy. I just did this to mine, that oscillating tool is a must though for ease of the labor and saves time. I don't know much about titling either. Just knew that the title grout was looking dirty and so I did this.
your are using the wrong blade and after you removed that grout you need to vacuum that area to get all the dust out then use a sponge with water to clean all surface dust in the joins to make good grout contact.
Do you need to use a sealer on top of the grout? I have to redo almost my entire powder room. The individual who did it prior used a sealer after the grout dried. Perhaps it was a different type of grout..
@@David-Field.Stuff01 ok thanks. What about sealer on tiled floor of bathroom itself? They are porcelain tiles and in a powder bathroom that would get water on it from possible spilling from sink, but nothing like a shower. Probably better to be safe and do it anyways right...?
i can see that using that little tool its jumping all over the place not removing the old grout likes one would like and you can see it can break or damaged the tiles not to mention the time oh my gosh the time it would take to remove the old grout
They removed all the grout while waiting for the new grout to set up after mixing it. I wish I could get demo done that quickly! I'm calling bullshit ok n that btw.
Also there's way better videos on this topic.i was gonna remove all old grouting come to find out really don't need too, unless it's so loose it's falling out .
a) Wrong carbide blade for the job. b) Blade is in line with the tool which makes it more difficult to control in this situation. Should have turned the blade 90 or so degrees to the tool body.
Brandon. You seem to know what you are talking about and quick to give out advice. Which is fine . However, I have a question for you. If you are so good as you claim to be. Then why are you wasting your time watching demo videos? I would have thought with all your perfect skills and knowledge. You would be too busy and have no need to even entertain such a basic exercise.
Ridgid is the one I am using. Home Depot. The head has I interchangable heads. Sander, jigsaw etc and one oscillating head is what he is using. Reasonable cost and cordless.
@@DiannaAtherton I ended up getting the Craftsman one. It works really well, but I stayed with the hand tool because I was concerned about scratching the tile. Should've replaced all the grout in that bathroom since it's not that big to begin with and guarantee color match. The existing grout will probably fail sooner or later anyway since it was probably improperly packed and the grout wasn't mixed properly
@ 3:58 is that BEFORE or AFTER? ...... If AFTER, I DISAGREE with, "...the area that we patched looks pretty flawless and I'm really happy with how the color came out" ...looks like you need to try again.
Wow, this is all wrong. Never use a multi-tool on grout joints that narrow. Non sanded grout will come out easily using a regular grout removal tool without the risk to your tile.
Thanks very much...Very useful...I have a small bathroom floor grout repair job to do and now know what to do. Cheers!
You need to vacume the joints prior grouting .
The new grout will not stick to The dust and debre from multi tool.
Good point👍🏻. I will do it this week.

Really appreciate this video, never imagined using the tool we at work call the "Jigglo" to work this way
Can be done...Need a good steady hand...What if the blade hits the tile (corners and edges)...Small areas like under 100 square feet controllable...
Good thing I watched this video. Wouldn't have guessed I shouldn't damage the tiles.
And you mixed the grout when you finish to take everything out

Does the process change when the grout is lining like a bath tub? Or do you have tips on that
Should I use white grout in a bathroom? I think the staining will be a problem?
Nice job!! I want to know the name of the grout you used. I installed some grout three months ago, which already came off.

Less than $20 in supplies lol. Yeah bc every home owner has a multi tool w/ carbide bit and tile float lying around.

How many people will cut through the water proofing with the multi tool?
Can you do it with a 1,000 square.
And no complaints with the customer?
You dont show how to get the excess dirt and grout before applying the new grout ?

My tile is already out how do I reinstall it?
yeah if you have to redo a whole kitchen not just 4 little spots in a bathroom it’ll be quite a bit longer than an hour also that bit is about 30$
Need these tools from where we can get
Thanks for the video this is helpful. Does the new grout need to be sealed?
Yes, unless it's a special type of grout like epoxy grout
It’s a nice consistency dammit and what is that consistentency !

What if it is a project to change grout color, not so much damage, from dark to light?
You can easy damage tile with this tool if joints are small.
Yep, they make everything look so easy.

Don't mix grout until you're ready to use it. This video is ridiculously poor.
This tool work for natural stone tile only.
Other tile with top glazing will cheep out the edges.
Yes this tool looked very aggressive and definitely not for porcelain tiles which mostly have problem of grout erosion
Why not usr a vacum to get the old grout out after it was sanded lol

Make sure it's a shop vac though. That kind of stuff may mess up a regular house vac used for carpeting.
Good job.
Won't this chip the edge of the tile
Less than $20 not including $200 grout removal tool 🤦♂️
$18 multi tool. HF.
If you don’t already have a multi-tool, you’re probably not a guy who should be doing grout work to begin with.
doing this by a hand tool is better and just as easy. If your store does not have one, you can use this one without the batteries.
A multi tool is >$20; its not a supply but makes a big difference

Grout sealer is required for tiled areas in the shower itself because amazingly grout isnt waterproof. Isnt that bizarre?
