I can't wait for the comments to be filled with crying Lithuanians. Lithuanianess was a multiethnic national identity until the neolithuanian movement was made. Both Lithuanians, Belarusians and Poles can claim it as their own. Adam Mickiewicz would call himself a Polish Lithuanian and wrote about Poland but also about the GDL in general (both Baltic Lithuanians and Slavic Lithuanians). Same with Piłsudski. Lithuanians should stop ultracoping about it and decide if the Commonwealth was some ultra evil state or muh brotherhood and Belarusians should accept that Lithuanians have a claim on the GDL too. The truth lies in the middle.
@@POCKET-SAND Yes and that's because the whole Commonwealth would be called just Poland. With time the majority of foreign szlachta would end up polonising because of it and integrating very well into Poland and inhabit the Crown lands (a good example is the Sapieha family).
@@cringe1020 Ukrainians should also be added to this conversation. The families of the Grand Princes underwent Polonization and became magnate families. The best example is the Wiśniowiecki family. One of the founders of the "Zapozov Sich" was Ataman Dymitr Wiśniowiecki, also known as "Bajda". Grand Prince Jarema Wiśniowiecki was the father of the Polish King Michał Korybut Wiśniowiecki. When will there be a folk song “Hey, Soviet people”?))) Litviny is the name of state affiliation, not an ethnic group. The entire East Slavic population of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania called themselves Rusyns.
Lol, fakes, "rusins" meant "of rus (russian) faith" (orthodox) for instance (slav living in GDL would callhimself "litvin of rusian faith"). Catholic slavs didn't called themself rusins. You better remember when zemaitians (most of modern territory of so called Lithuania) become to be called lithuanians too ? in 1918? And remember when zemaitian(samogitian) elites got the same rights as slavic in GDL? Also most of "old toponym Lithuania" population was already slavic by 15 century (look GDL census).
@@__-bc8fk My teacher of Russian history (Ph.D) generally said that the term Rusyns, as an ethnonym for the Eastern Slavs, arose in Kievan Rus. Zemaitia is just one of the regions of Lithuania. The Grand Duchy of Lithuania was founded by the Baltic tribe Litva, who lived in the area between the Neris and Merkis rivers. Perhaps they received the same rights under Margiris or Vytautas, his mother was zemaitian))) Until the 16th century, the nobility of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania spoke Lithuanian, there was liturgy in the Lithuanian language, it was necessary in the offices. Albert Gashtold (if you don’t know who this is, I’ll spit on the monitor) even wanted to expel the Bernardines who did not know the Lithuanian language.
@@__-bc8fk Hey, zmagar. Can you explain to me why in all regions of Belarus no one speaks the Belarusian language? Everyone speaks Russian with the exception of the Polish-speaking Grodno.
@@BHimnos Olbracht(Albrecht) Gashtold, son of Yan (grandson of Andrey Gashtold) who printed Statut in ruthenian at first. Definitely a baltic dynasty. Like Jagailo, son of Juliana from Twer (guess which language mother talked to him?). Also algerd, Jagaila, Gedimin named children like Dmitry Andrey Fedor, AnastasiaVladislav, definitely a "baltic dynasty" :) There is just your wishful thinking that baltic lang was primary for very long time with zero proofs, whilst in fact printing book in ruthenian in Wilno started earlier than in Polish or Latin (not even talking about baltic langs)
@@BHimnos I like how you want to claim that all germanic names (wtf is Wytautas? hahah any source with Wytaut-as?) are "traditional baltic™". Witort/Witald are most likely original german forms. You want to think that Dowsprung/Ryngolt/Holherd/Mindoch(Mendolf in some sources), and never "mindaugas") are "baltic names" or "baltic dynasty" despite by 1528 GDL army census there were zero (ZERO) such "traditional" names among GDL baltic soldiers (suddenly forgot "tradtional" baltic names LoL??) And you are trying to find close baltic words to somehow make those germanic(skandinavian) names baltic. Pathetic. It's like if belarusians pretended that Ad-Olf means Hell(ad) + Golf or Sven means Swin. Google 1528 census and use more docs and less wishful thinking. P.S. GDL when formed already included slavic fortress Harodnia(Grodno) long part of orthodox Rus and slonim.
So can anyone explain who are Litviny and Belarusian history? I did hear Lithuanian dukes like Mindaugas and others are Belarusians?:)) If so ..just simple question..what Mindaugas mean in slavic/belarusian? Lithuanians can tell ..It has meaning in his name in Lithuanian language ..but no meaning in slavic...Plus he was a pagan.. After LGD collapsed slavs pushed Lithuanians towards current territory on the map...Belarusians are looking now their place in history and trying to claim Vilnius and they are real Lithuanians, but judging by this current Belorussia territory was belonging to Lithuanians and Belarusians are slavs mixed with some Lithuanians while both was in LGD.
@@Yogii0123agree.. but sometimes I read from Belarusian books that current Lithuania nothing to do with real Lithuania..and Vilnius is Belarusian city..same as dukes .. seems cry in a emptiness:)
"Mindaugas" "Algirdas" "Witautas" is modern fake with 0 historical sources. Their names are Mindoch/Midoh (Мідог)/Mendolf. Holherd/Algerd. Witold/Witord in real historical sources. They ALL are germanic (skandinavian style names). First rulers of Kyivan Rus also has skandinavian names but noone pretends they are "old baltic names". You, poor modern lithuanians, pretend that even Dowsprung (pure Germanic name) and Ryngolt (pure Germanic name) are "pure balts" and trying to find a close baltic words to "explain their" names.
GDL existed 550 years, 450 years ruled by pure slavic elites. Started as balto-slavic country (e.g. Slavic-orthodox Grodno was fro mthe very beginning), in 100-150 years balts roles decreased to non-existing.

Lithuania = catholic part of modern Belarus, east part of modern Lithuania Rus = orhodox part of modern Belarus, Ukraine Samogitia - west part of modern Lithuania, called Zemajtija
@@debaptisticrites It's in the history books - Lithuanian speaking people constituted only 10% of the entire population of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and lived mostly in the historic Lithuanian homeland - it is there where they had lived before their Lithuanian rulers began their conquests. Those Baltic people were peasants and did not play any important role in the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. In the Middle Ages all the elites and the middle classes of the Grand Duchy spoke Ruthenian (so a language similar to contemporary Belarusian). Nobody is saying GDL was purely a Slavic state but Baltic speaking people were in minority - those in majority didn't even call those Baltic people Lithuanians - when somebody was called a Lithuanian it meant that person was speaking a Slavic language. In Poland the name for the Slavic speaking inhabitants of GDL was 'Litwini' (Lithuanians). Those who didn't speak Slavic (Ruthenian) were called 'Zmudzini' - and those names come from historical sources - it was the way the great poet Adam Mickiewicz called those 2 nacionalities. For him Lithuanians were people like himself - speaking a Slavic language. Then there were the others - the people who spoke a completely different language - and those he didn't even call Lithuanians - for him they were known as 'Zmudzini' For him Litwa (Lithuania) it was a country with a Slavic speaking population and 'Zmudz' it was a region of GDL where people were speaking a different language. Thus Mickiewicz did identify as Lithuanian but it wasn't the Lithuania as we know it today. Mickiewicz identified with the Slavic Lithuania, the Baltic part for him it was the others, who were different from those whom he knew as Lithuanians. Mickiewicz never identified as 'Zmudzin' - never identified with the Baltic population of the GDL.

It was the same with Polish back during the days of the Commonwealth. Szlachta of all nations referred to themselves as "Polish."
And it would be nice to add some Latvians to the full picture. ;)

Razam rombac😤
Perhaps they received the same rights under Margiris or Vytautas, his mother was zemaitian)))
Until the 16th century, the nobility of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania spoke Lithuanian, there was liturgy in the Lithuanian language, it was necessary in the offices.
Also algerd, Jagaila, Gedimin named children like Dmitry Andrey Fedor, AnastasiaVladislav, definitely a "baltic dynasty" :)
There is just your wishful thinking that baltic lang was primary for very long time with zero proofs, whilst in fact printing book in ruthenian in Wilno started earlier than in Polish or Latin (not even talking about baltic langs)
@@BHimnos I like how you want to claim that all germanic names (wtf is Wytautas? hahah any source with Wytaut-as?) are "traditional baltic™".
Witort/Witald are most likely original german forms.
You want to think that Dowsprung/Ryngolt/Holherd/Mindoch(Mendolf in some sources), and never "mindaugas") are "baltic names" or "baltic dynasty" despite by 1528 GDL army census there were zero (ZERO) such "traditional" names among GDL baltic soldiers (suddenly forgot "tradtional" baltic names LoL??)
And you are trying to find close baltic words to somehow make those germanic(skandinavian) names baltic.
Pathetic. It's like if belarusians pretended that Ad-Olf means Hell(ad) + Golf or Sven means Swin.
Google 1528 census and use more docs and less wishful thinking.
P.S. GDL when formed already included slavic fortress Harodnia(Grodno) long part of orthodox Rus and slonim.
history stealing at it's finest
The grand duchy of Lithuania was mainly populated by Belarusians. Belarusian identity was formed through Lithuanian influence on the rus people.
This is a modern version of Polish - Ukrainian song Hey Sokoly with newly written lyrics. Not authentic.
Pewnie tak,ale ładnie brzmi.
Что за нытьё!!!
мы буряты, мы русские 😂😂
Litviny = all citizens of GDL
@@Yogii0123agree.. but sometimes I read from Belarusian books that current Lithuania nothing to do with real Lithuania..and Vilnius is Belarusian city..same as dukes .. seems cry in a emptiness:)
basically eastern slavs that were assimilated into lithuanians

🛡️GDL (totally Slavic state) full name is Great Duchy Lithuania(Litva), Ruś, Samogitia and other lands.
Where Slavic states are
Lithuania=Litva (now Belarus)
Ruś (now Ukraine)
and small non-Slavic addition:
Samogitia (now Lietuva)
👑 is also two Slavic states Commonwealth: Poland and Litva (=Belarus)
Ruś became part of the Crown very quickly and for long time. Lithuania is Belarus and Samogitia only
You are crazy brother Lietuvos Didzioji Kunigaikstyste is fully Lithuanian. Samogitia is a region in Lithuania im not even from samogitia Im from the sudovian region. GDL is Lithuania not belarus
Samogitia isn't now Lithuania/Lietuva, it still is now samogitia just as it was back then. GDL wasn't totally slavic state.
Lithuania = catholic part of modern Belarus, east part of modern Lithuania
Rus = orhodox part of modern Belarus, Ukraine
Samogitia - west part of modern Lithuania, called Zemajtija
