I’ve never gotten motion sick from a video before. I was playing a game and just watching this on the side, I looked over for not more than 5 seconds and I felt motion sickness coming on. I don’t understand how QA let that slide.

Between the abysmal parallax and the split second screen blackouts for some of the attacks this game feels like it's tailor made to nauseate as many people as possible.
I'm surprised greyfruit didn't talk about EX's super cancel mechanic that allows you to chain supers together legit one of the craziest yet coolest mechnics in the SF series that only lives on in Fighting EX Layer

the background is a 3d model that rotates whenever the floor the players fight on moves.

I think the parallax was achieved by having the background on a pivot, and rotating based on the position of/distance between each player relative to the actual floor. It's missing any positional changes that our brain expects from moving left or right. This is a recipe for vomit.

Yeah, I feel like that's definitely one of the influences.
I wonder if they wanted to use Akira from Rival Schools but weren't able to get approval from capcom, or if Capcom saw EX and decided they'd make their own take on the idea of a biker character.
Edit: looking at release dates and considering that Arika and Akira are anagrams that just reverse the middle 3 letters, I'm guessing that the latter is substantially more likely.

God why did they decide to implement *more* parallax on more distant background objects? It's completely backwards from the fairly normal 3D of the foreground where there is LESS parallax with distance... you can see the space bend like someone's rolling reality into a bagel
I bet it’s some kinda holdover from the early EX games where the stage backgrounds were flat images and the floor was 3D iirc, kinda like Tekken 1 to Tekken Tag Tournament

So fun fact: Skullomania actually does return, but not in a street fighter game weirdly enough. Here's where it get weird, Skullomania returns in a SNK game....but genderbent as it's in SNK Heroines meaning Skullomania just exists in several timelines or something
I think the weirdness with secondary fighters on the victory screen is the primary fighter has a victory animation that's pre-rendered and the secondary is a green-screen animated model. You can see, in the initial instance, Ryu's tattered sleeve appears to clip under Ken's ass a bit.

Soul Calibur, VF3TB and DoA2 were all available on Dreamcast and looked absolutely stunning (VF3TB doesn't hold up as well as the other two visually, but it's definitely a less strange visual presentation. I guess that all of those don't have the challenge of adapting a series that started with sprites but they all look good, if not totally up to today's fidelity standards)
That said there's a charm to getting something with such a complete disregard for the rules of 3D perspective.
Edit: FF Revenge is definitely fits the bill though. It looks like a lot of fun, but it definitely doesn't have good visuals or gameplay outside of the bizarre attempts to implement mechanics from the beat em up games and ridiculous moves
