I Was A Simple Man is a ghost story set in the pastoral countryside of the north shore of O‘ahu, Hawai‘i. Revealed in four chapters, it tells the story of an elderly man facing the end of his life, visited by the ghosts of his past. Incorporating familial history and mythology, dream logic and surrealism, I Was a Simple Man is a time-shifting, kaleidoscopic story of a fractured family facing the death of their patriarch that will take us from the high-rises of contemporary Honolulu to pre-WWII pastorals of O‘ahu and, finally, into the beyond.

I worked with her occasionally on "Fresh Off The Boat." She was quiet, but so very nice.

Hm. Interesting for a US film to tackle a subject such as death and ghosts. The trailer feels a bit like an American-ized "Uncle Boonmee..."

Independent American film from a Hawaiin director bringing his culture. When US finally tries to be inclusive, we can get such original films.

Have you seen the Balinese "Seen and Unseen"? The actual title: Sekala & Niskala ... Goes well with the American movie "Ghost" and films like "Tree of Life" and Uncle Boonmee.

@@moviefan700 I hope you realize how moronic this statement is about inclusivity in the "US" indie film industry. This director is a great example and hardly the first. What you said makes zero sense, and to add, the "US" indie scene is extremely diverse and full of men and women from all walks of the earth. Nice job disrespecting so many people.
