This is the guitar that started it all - an original 1938 Gibson ES 150, which is a fine example of one of the first electric guitars in history. With a Gibson ES-150 in his hands, Charlie Christian showed the world what the electric guitar was capable of in the Benny Goodman Sextet - putting electric guitar in the spotlight a solo instrument. The big warm sound that comes from the ‘Charlie Christian’ pickup is glorious. It is widely argued that this pickup is the greatest jazz pickup ever designed, and it’s not hard to see why. The cost of manufacturing these pickups proved unfeasible and a more economical pickup - the P90 took its place in later years. These early ES 150 really are the holy grail of early electric jazz guitars.
The guitar is being played directly through a Lazy J - J20 amplifier

Really nice guitar, and really nicely played
immaculate tone, this isn't just the amp mic yes?
Thanks a bunch! And yes you're right, there's a bit of the guitar itself captured with a mic in front of the instrument.
@@premierguitars thanks for the response, do you remember what mic that was? If it's a camera mic, I'll buy the camera 😁
Having 1 of 23 after 83 years is a little more than "kinda lucky" lol. Nice video, very informative
Thanks man! Yes it is truly wonderful machine. We’re lucky to have it in the shop ❤️
He mentions that it's 1 of 362 guitars made in 1938. ; -)
I actually have one of these, better than any modern guitar
What kind of strings do you put on it?
11 gauge ECG24 D'addario flat wounds on this one
