It was such a non-scandal. They were being cheeky and silly and very much acting like teenage boys. I love this song and have never found anything offensive in the lyrics. Some people were just trying to find something to get mad about.

I never got offended by the lyrics of this song, I actually think they are pretty light considering what wee hear in pop music nowadays hahaha And the MV is so silly and cute, the end where the girl hugs V is just the most adorable thing ever 😂

    - As a (western) woman I have absolutely no problem with the lyrics of WOH and if you look at the MV I think it's very clear that it's meant as almost a parody of teenage boys.
    - The hand gesture is a common Korean aegyo gesture (aegyo is acting cute). Whether they meant it in the western way as well I don't know.
    - You guys should check out the dance practice, Appeal version. It's basically the crackhead version and it's hilarious. They also did a really fun Halloween dance practice of it as well. 😂

WOH has the BEST dance practices! The boys clearly had so much fun performing this song, it makes me mad that antis--who I'm pretty sure weren't offended, but just looking to stir up drama--ruined it for them. 😡

I love the mv! It is really cute to me too. Jimin in his red pants and suspenders is a great look. I agree, V smacking other people's butts and JK picking Yoongi up cracks me up no end. And I was not offended at all considering the music in the us and the crap that I dance to in the clubs. LOL

This is so funny and justice for War of Hormones. It’s so funny and just the way guys feel overwhelmed by hormones in a funny way not really disrespectful etc. Tae is such a mood the whole video just hinged silly.

The "fans" that were upset up this were just haters trying to do something to get BTS i trouble or get canceled. Anything. They continue to be desperate to this day.
If you get a chance to, read their book. They explain how some of the hate thrown at them had affected them. You just want to give them all hugs for the crap they went through.
I too never saw anything misogynistic about the lyrics or the vid. Very high schooly actually, so it was on point with the title.

I have loved this song and video from the first time I saw it. I have never found it offensive.....it's realistic. I too wondered about that gesture by Tae 🤣. I laughed pretty hard when you talked about them rolling up on their bikes trying to shoot their shot....hilarious. From what I have heard, it was mostly antis and other fanbases throwing out all the criticism......looking for any way they could possibly find to crap on BTS. Sad situation really....there is room in the world for everyone's music without the need for fanwars. Thanks for your reaction...I enjoyed it.

Quite obviously this song received such negative reactions because it was an easy excuse to criticize BTS. But I have read numerous responses from people who completely relate to the “war of hormones” BTS portrayed in this song. Really. Those of us who have survived our teen years (every one of us watching this video!) have no other choice than to embrace the teenage joyful, confused message of this song!

Agree, as a woman, did not take offense of the video at all. I have seen MANY other artists from different countries create borderline obscene videos. But what I have heard, coming from a conservative country, many Koreans thought this was very inappropriate and other fandoms were "stirring the pot" and creating the unnecessary drama. It is a shame they don't perform this song anymore. 💜

I've never found anything offensive about War Of Hormone. In fact, I love the song.💜
It's simply a fun, honest look at how changing hormone levels affect teen boys/young men (and teen girls/young women), and how it changs the way we look at the other sex.💜🤗
And let's be honest, change a couple of words (girls to guys, etc) and it could just as easily - and just as honestly - be sung by young women.💜

I'm new to the whole BTS thing. I've heard some of their newer stuff like Butter and Dynamite but they're too "pop" for my liking. This song has a bit more of an edge, so I like it a lot, and the video is adorable. I have no issues (as a female) with the lyrics or the song, although i agree with Septa that the double hand gesture by V sure looked to imply grabbing some boobage 😆
My actual intro to BTS music was a mash up of "Mic Drop" with the song "PopStars" by K/DA. The Mashup was done by Miggie Smallz, and is available on YT. I had that vid on repeat for a looooong time after I found it!

I LOVE this song. There were SO MANY other idol songs at the same time as this that were so much worse. There were a bunch of antis that teamed up to try to bring BTS down. I don't think there was anything particularly offensive about this. I still respect the hell out of RM for his actions afterwards, but I don't feel like this song warranted the response it got.

Like I can't look at this song anythinig then as some delulu thoughts that teens boys have in theirs head when the hormones buzz ...
Like ok some people have some feelings about it and like I won't arguee bc they can feel what they feel.
But I really never saw anything here to as a women to be uncomfortable... Hmm

A lot of the scandal with this one was caused by a third party mistranslating the “girls are equations” part. It was mistranslated to “we do em” when the actual translation was “we solve them”. It’s so frustrating that they received backlash because of someone else’s mistake.

  • @Holly-kj6rs

Im not offended by the lyrics personally but if someone is, I think that's valid. We've all got different triggers. That said, the way BTS themselves handled the controversy just raises my respect and love for them (and that doesn't usually happen with anyone else 😂). They used the issue as a stepping stone for growth, which isn't easy to do.
Anyway, the dance practices for this are hilarious and you should definitely do a Laughasaurus with them 😁

First time I heard WOH, I thought it was cute and the beat is addicting. I instantly liked it. Personally as a female, I didn't feel offended by it. I took it as something all normal boys feel and they're just telling a story about it. No matter what our moral views are, the fact stays that boys go through that stage when they're sexually attracted to girls and they'd naturally have that urge to check girls out physically. And resisting that urge is truly a war with your hormones. That JK line where he said something about girls being an equation which they solve is somewhat true as well. Haters just really love making a huge deal about everything bts do especially if it's something good as WOH, to downgrade them.

Hi, I am back. Good reaction, ty. Sor love ur shirt. So cool. I like suspenders too. Have a pair or 2 but never wore them. =0p Jimin bias, Suga wrecker and OT7. BTS and staff are very good in making catchy songs. Sadly they don't perform this one no more. It got too much controversy when it came out. The MV makes me blush bad so I try to avoid watching it. =0p And who else but RM / BTS goes and hires feminist's professors to check song lyrics. I mean come on!!! Respect! War of Hormone has some mild lyrics regarding teenage boys reactions/feelings towards girls and that set off a storm with the haters. Since then they have never sang 'love songs' like those in the West! Hugs. -2019 Army NY USA💜

The song that was allegedly misogynistic was War of Hormone. It is satire about teenage boys battling their hormones. It isn't misogynistic at all, and a lot of what people wanted to say was misogyny, was because of mistranslation. Also, a lot of it was just people grasping at straws to try and stop BTS from succeeding.

I believe the first ones who complained were South Koreans & not some other nationalities. Perhaps it was not just because these complainers were hating on BTS due to music label & band saturation, but that Korea also was & still is a traditional & conservative culture, so stuff like sex was not freely talked about. In contrast, by that time in the mid 2010's when this song released, music in the United States & Europe had already progressed beyond that & was already teeming with sexual innuendo, half-nudity, direct sexual references, cursing, swearing & some pr0n. And of course, the science of sex hormones was already figured out long ago in the west, so as to comprehend & understand what teens go through about their budding sexuality. The days of getting sexually excited from seeing bare female ankles was already long passed. Or has it? For female commenters here saying there were ok with the song & MV, you have to first see where these commenters are from. But Korea is slowly "progressing" into getting desensitized about sex as is of the west. In the end, whether or not it was a non-issue, RM still did his "due diligence" on the subject to be careful in future songs, even though now in hindsight, many have said that he didn't have to in the first place. Now you need to see the Halloween dance practice version of War of Hormone. And maybe some of the Misheard lyrics, lmao.

I always thought this song was all very tongue-in-cheek, like they know perfectly well how ridiculous it is to be a hormonal boy (perfect example: Hobi's pimple line) and they expressed it in song form. I'm a girl who mostly had male friends in high school and can confirm that they are exactly like that, but I'm also not likely to be offended by teenage boys being teenage boys because I was so used to it.

Its hard to navigate criticism directed at bts tbh bc so much is intentionally taken out of context and blown out of proportion.
Imo there was really nothing awful about this song but also the criticism ended up benefitting them in the end, as namjoon even mentioned in their book beyond the story; they now consult feminist experts to review their lyrics before release and today are kind of seen as an positive exception in an industry/country that otherwise still struggles heavily when gender issues and misogyny
